This book provides an overview of a broad spectrum of
spinal diseases that can be diagnosed by MR.
The book is composed of the following 9 chapters: Basic
principles of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Technical consi-
derations in Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the spine, Ana-
tomical considerations in Magnetic Resonance Imaging of
the spine, Neoplastic disease of the spine, Degenerative disc
disease, Inflammatory and degenerative diseases of the
spine, Spinal trauma, Magnetic Resonance evaluation of the
post treatment spine, The pediatric spine.
Each chapter begins with a comprehensive text on the
subject and provides at the end an up to date bibliography.
The basic principles are very briefly overviewed and a
general understanding is provided how the imaging process
works and how the image contrast can be affected by certain
variables such as the type of pulse sequences. Apart from the
conventional SE pulse sequences, the more recent GRE and
STIR sequences are shown whenever usefull.
The quality of the illustrations is of the highest level.
The whole field of spinal pathology is covered well
balanced in this book. It can be recommended to all
radiologists involved in MRI of the spine.
This book is aimed at candidates who prepare for a post-
graduate examination of the cardiovascular system. The pur-
pose of the book is to provide a self-assessment aid in film
interpretation mainly of chest radiographs but also including
some newer imaging modalities. The material is presented as
cases with some relevant clinical information, followed by a
‘specimen’ report which discusses important features seen on
the radiographs. The case material is well presented and the
important features can readily be identified on the radio-
graphs. The specimen report succinctly summarizes the key
findings and gives some useful additional information
including a differential diagnosis. Echocardiography is in-
cluded in many cases which is illustrative, but less important
for radiology residents who will not read or perform echo-
cardiography. Only a sporadic case shows the value of
magnetic resonance imaging for cardiovascular diagnosis. In
summary, this book provides a well-organized presentation
of case material which will be helpful to residents in radiology
and other specialities to assess their knowledge of radiologi-
cal diagnosis of cardiovascular disease.
