•FullEPSRCfunding(currently£13,863studentmaintenanceperyear+fees),withadditionalpaymentsfromindustrialsponsorstakingthetax free stipend up to a possible £20,000paduringthePhDphaseisavailableforUKstudentsandEUstudentswhohavestudiedforthreeyearsfulltimeintheUK.

UponsuccessfulcompletionoftheMRes,thestudentsprogresstotheirPhDfromavastrangeoftopicsincluding:manufacturingengineering;laserprocesses;photonics;materialsscience;controlsystems;andmachinedesign.DuringtheirPhDmanystudentswillbeofferedtheopportunitytoworkalongsideindustrialpartnersallowingthemtogainvaluablebusinessexperiencewhilstreceivinganadditionalmaintenancetop-up,bringingtheirstipenduptoapossible£20,000pataxfree.
Manyindustrialsectorsrequireahighlevelofprecision,suchasaerospace,medicaldevices,automotive,energy,securityanddefence.StudentscompletingtheMResandPhDwillbecentralplayersintheultrahighprecisionwealthcreationeconomy.

TheMRes&PhDprogrammeinUltraPrecisiontrainspostgraduatestudentstobetheprecisionengineersofthefuture.Theprogrammeisstructuredintwophases:aone-yeartaughtMRescourseattheUniversityofCambridgeandCranfieldUniversity;followedbyathree-yearPhDresearchprogrammeatCranfield,CambridgeoranotherUKuniversity.
DuringtheMResthestudentswilllearnadvancedhighprecisiontechniquesandprocesses,including:highenergylasermicro/nano-processing;focusedionbeammachining;reactiveatomplasmaprocessing;nanofabrication;grapheneengineering;printedelectronics;machinedesign;andadvancedmetrologysystems.TheMResisdesignedtogiveabalancebetweentaughtcourses,labsessionsandresearchprojectstoallowstudentstodeveloparangeofskills.
