Focus Lesson: Tell the Teach Turn to p. 745 in Elements… Using the process we studied in class this

week, guide the teacher step by step as to how to write a QNT on the theme of this poem. Start with telling him to turn to page 745. Continue by telling him that in order for him to earn full credit, he must be able to… Proceed from there.

Focus Lesson: “Harlem” Divide into small groups of 3. Turn your desks so

they face each other. Turn to page 754 in Elements… Previewing

As a group, look at the title and pictures (if any). Make some notes about the possible themes.

Reading Select one person to the entire poem through using a 6-

inch voice. Watch for lines which contain instances or suggestions

of the theme. Keep the title and pictures in mind.

Review Identify the line which relates to the theme. Write a QNT. Report out and hand in. Make sure to include all names

and date.

Homework: Rap Come prepared to class tomorrow to write a rap. It

must be at least 20” in duration and no more than 60”. Think of a class appropriate theme and 10 related

objects that go with it (also class appropriate).
