    • Brunei is a highly motorised country where about 95% of its vehicle fleet comprised of privately-owned vehicles.

    • As a small nation with rapid growth on infrastructure and economic development, the movement of people and goods on our road network is getting more rapid and we anticipate chaotic mobility in the very near future if we practice Business As Usual (BAU) in our road accident reduction efforts.

    • Brunei aspire to the short, medium and long-term development on 5 Pillars that focused on actions-oriented “TOWARDS SAFER MOBILITY AND SAFETY ON THE ROAD”.

ROAD SAFETY INITIATIVES AND PROGRAMMES 2011-2020

To ensure that we meet our goal TO REDUCE AND MINIMISE DEATHS AND INJURIES RELATED TO ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS (RTA) ON BRUNEI ROAD, these initiatives and programmes are planned based on ‘5Es’ and under the Five (5) Principles:

    1. Enhancing Road Safety Management and formulate evidence-based strategies and action plans.

    2. Reducing the drivers’ degree of severity of road crash event by enhancing the level of safety of our road network.

    3. Addressing the most emergence major cause of road accident in the country by clamping down the speeding behaviour.

    4. Introduction of and imposing the vehicle safety standards and modifications guidelines.

    5. Addressing the driver impairment through Assertive Education andpublic awareness campaigns and safeguarding the vulnerable road users.
