If a student refuses to comply with the teacher’s request (to relinquish his/her cell phone, change seats, comply with reasonable request, etc.)

he/she will be sent to the office (teacher will notify office) and the student will be admitted back into the teacher’s class the next day but must talk with the teacher and accept responsibility for his/her behavior and agree to behave better before being admitted back into class. If this is not taken care of in the next 24 hours, suspension will follow. Three incidents of insubordination will warrant a suspension.

2. Misbehaving, Sleeping, Refusing to Work

If a student persists in misbehaving after the teacher has taken time to speak one-on-one with him/her, he/she may be taken to another teacher’s classroom to sit in the “guest” chair. Students who go to the “guest chair” will not be allowed to make up the missed work, must sit with their back to the other students, may not talk, and may not disrupt the class in any way. Students may return to class the next day as long as they take responsibility for their behavior and agree to behave better.

3. TardiesStudents who have been tardy for a class 3 times will be warned by the teacher that on the fourth tardy the student will be notified in writing (form available) and will be expected to serve 30 minutes in detention after school. Detention must be served within one week of the written notice. Detention will be held from 2:45 to 3:15 in a teacher’s classroom which will be posted in each classroom throughout the week. If the student does not serve the tardy within the week’s time, the student will be suspended until the parent can bring the student in for reinstatement—minimum of one-day suspension. On the 5th tardy the student will be warned, on the 6th detention will be served, 7th a warning, 8th detention, etc.

4. Pre Arranged Absences

Students who know they will be missing school 2 days or more for

health reasons, family vacations, etc., will need to pick up a pre-

arranged absence form in the office. They must take the form around to

each teacher and have it signed. Teachers will try to work with the

students under these circumstances and give them a reasonable amount

of time to make up work. It is the student’s responsibility to check with

the teacher before or after school—not during class time to find out

what they missed. The student will have a maximum of three days to get

the work completed for one missed day. A week will be given to make up

more than three days’ work. The work must be made up on the student’s

time not during class time. If students do not made up the work within a

week of returning to school, they will not be allowed to make it up.

5. Chronic Absenteeism

When students have been absent from a class

2 or 3 days in a mini-term, the teacher of that class

will notify the parent or the student’s advisor to try

to rectify the situation. Students who miss five full

days of school (without pre-approved form) may be

dismissed for the remainder of the mini-term. They

will be allowed to attend Wednesday School (1-3:00

p.m. on Wednesdays) to attempt to earn some

credit.

1. BEHAVIOR/DRESS CODE: We will model behavior expectations and the dress standards of the business/work world, which means that:

Students are expected to treat all other students, school personnel, and the school building with respect.

All hats and headwear including headbands and bandanas are not appropriate.

Bare skin between the shoulders and mid-thighs must be covered. Shirts must have at least three fingers’ width of fabric on shoulders—no

tank tops. Necklines need to be high enough to cover cleavage. All underwear must be covered by appropriate outerwear. Pants should be able to stay up with or without a belt. Sagging pants are

not appropriate for school. Gloves and sunglasses are to be worn outside only. Slogans on clothing and jewelry should be positive without references to

any illegal/improper behavior for high school age students—spikes or chains may be appropriate in other situations.

In an effort to dissuade any possible reference to gangs, all clothing (shirts, jackets, pants, etc.) with numbers should be used for sports activities or other activities outside of school. (No numbers on clothing or accessories)

Any gang related clothing or accessories are inappropriate. Writing or drawings on notebooks, papers, etc. should not include anything that might suggest or refer to gangs.

Policies

Cell phones or electronic devices are a distraction. Please leave them at home. Any seen or heard during class time (whether in class or not) will be collected and held in the office until the end of the day. A second offense would require a parent to pick the item up. A third offense would require a suspension for insubordinate behavior. Parents can easily contact their student through the school phone system—476-3920. Text Messaging is a distraction! Parents, please do not attempt to contact your student on his/her cell phone at school during school hours.

Language should always be appropriate for a school environment—words and subjects. Inappropriate language may be dealt with as a safe schools violation (District Policy) or as sexual harassment.

Food and drink are to be consumed only before or after school or at lunch in the multi-purpose room. (No food or drink in classrooms)

Students need to stay in the school once they arrive. Those who choose to leave the building during school hours must sign out through the office; not properly signing out will result in dismissal from school for the remainder of the day. A Daytime Curfew citation may be issued as well. A second offense will require that a parent meet with the administration before his/her student may return to school. Lunch time is only 29 minutes long, so students are encouraged to stay on campus.

Promptness is imperative. Students who are tardy for any class must come to the office and call a parent to receive a note to go to class. Four tardies in a mini-term will require a 30 minute detention after school.

2. SCHOOL ATTENDANCE AND PRODUCTIVITY are extremely important. If a student misses five or more times in any class, he/she will not be likely to earn credit for that mini-term. Students must work in classes every day and be productive.

3. DRUG, ALCOHOL, & TOBACCO POLICYWe follow the Weber School District policy concerning drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. Any student who is suspected of being under the influence or in possession of illegal substances will be searched. If any evidence is apparent, the student will be suspended until an assessment at Weber County Substance Abuse is completed. Students must then prove compliance with the suggested treatment from W.C.S.A. Smoking or chewing is not allowed on campus!

4. SAFE SCHOOLSDisruptive behavior i.e. fighting, insubordination, disorderly conduct, foul, abusive, or vulgar language may be dealt with by our Safe School Committee. A possible outcome would be a change in the student’s Two Rivers High School program. Two Rivers High School will follow Weber School Districts’ safe school policy.

5. SEXUAL HARASSMENTAny student who feels that he/she has been sexually

harassed in any way should inform an adult on staff immediately.

A student who participates in any kind of sexual harassment towards another person will be subject to review by the safe schools committee and may be removed from his/her current program. Students whose pants sag so that their underwear is showing may be charged with sexual harassment. Students engaging in public displays of affection may be considered violating the sexual harassment policy.
