Moving SilhouettesACTIVATING NEGATIVE SPACE, RHYTHM, MOVEMENT, REPETITION, UNITY
Silhouette-A silhouette is the image of a person, animal, object or scene represented as a solid shape of a single color, usually black, its edges matching the outline of the subject.

Silhouettes were cheap ways of having a portrait made.
The artist would trace the shadow created for a light source. Then carefully cut out your image.
Named silhouettes because of the cut in cost associated with the finance minister. It was the cheap thing to do.
Positive & Negative Space- Composition
Positive- the object or subject
Negative- the area around the object or subject
If you are seeing a vase, then you are seeing the white area as the positive space. The black areas become the negative space. If you are seeing faces, then you are seeing the black areas as the positive space, and the white area as the negative space.
The negative space is as important as the positive.
Consider the amount of negative space.
Consider what is happening in the negative space.

Moving Silhouette Process Create a silhouette of a moving figure. Consider the narrative of the
movement. 1. AJP sketches of moving figure- partner, magazine, image 2. Alter drawing to create a silhouette. 3. Trace them onto poster board. Cut out the template carefully.

Keith Haring was born the 4th of May, 1958 in Reading, Pennsylvania.During the 1980’s Keith began his career in Art in the New York underground.
As a child, Haring was fascinated by the cartoon art of Walt Disney.
He spent many hours drawing with his father, an engineer whose hobby was cartooning.
