A WARM WELCOME TO EMILIA ROMAGNA What does Italy bring to mind? The world’s finest cars, red Ferraris? The most delicious food, such as Parmigiano-Reggiano or balsamic vinegar? Fellini’s and Antonioni’s films or Luciano Pavarotti’s voice? Well, you may not be aware of it, but often when you think of Italy, you are actually thinking of our region, Emilia Romagna. Indeed, the secret of our success is in a story of continuous transformation and collaboration, always putting people at the center of our strategy, creating a cohesive community with high levels of employment and richness. But also a great sense of hospitality and entertainment. We are used to having our brains here and our feet out there in the world in a history that has blended hard work with imagination. Our land is an invitation to get together, to meet, to talk and work together. Now we are moving towards the digital transformation and if our region were a car we would say it is powered by a very special engine: collaborative institutions, outstanding research centres and universities fed by a quality school system with excellent links to business. Our openness is not just a slogan, we’ve been one of the first regions in Italy with a specific law to support also foreign investors and, as you will see, we are still using our resources to pave the way to innovation and ambitious projects. I hope that you will join us. I am sure that you will be inspired by us. Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport, classified as a “strategic airport” in the north-central area of the National Airports Plan, is now the eighth biggest Italian airport by number of passengers, with more than 8.5 million pas-sengers in 2018, 77% of which flew on international flights. Located in the heart of the Emilian “food valley” and the automotive and packaging industrial districts, the airport has a catchment area of about 11 million inhabitants and 47,000 companies, which have a strong propensity for exports and internationalization, as well as commercial expansion policies aimed at Eastern Europe and Asia. In 2018, there were 114 available destinations: the presence of some of the largest airlines in Europe, along with some of the leading low-cost carriers, and the close link with other international hubs make Bologna Italy’s fourth most important airport for global connectivity. As for airport infrastructure, the airport has strategic developments planned for the coming years.
