OVERVIEW OF PRESENTATION

A terminally ill mother has to settle on the new woman in her former husband's life

who will be their stepmother.

but then becomes hopeful because she will be receiving chemotherapy.

FUNCTIONAL ASSESSMENTS

o Pattern of Activity/ExerciseJackie is active prior to chemotherapy. Jackie becomes increasingly weaker as the cancer progresses.

Jackie is an active mother, but the chemotherapy gets the best of her and has side effects such as nausea and vomiting.

o Pattern of Sleep and Rest Jackie is well rested and her appearance is well maintained. As the Cancer progress, Jackie has bags under her eyes and looks less unkempt.

Jackie is the primary caregiver for her children. As her disease progresses she realizes she needs help from Isabel.

Jackie becomes angry with Isabel, Luke (ex-husband), and her disease throughout the movie. Towards the end of the movie she becomes content and accepting.

According to “Cancer Council,” it is normal to be fearful, feel that

you are out of control, angry, sad, guilt, and loneliness when you are

diagnosed with cancer (Cancer Council, 2013).

becomes spiritual with her children telling them if they ever need her, she will always be in their hearts and their dreams (Columbus, 1998).

NURSING CONSIDERATIONS

The movie “Stepmom,” is about a mother named Jackie learning to accept her divorce and accepting the new woman in her children’s life Isabel. Jackie is diagnosed with cancer and is learning to

cope and manage it all. She fears if everything will be ok when she is gone. When Jackie realizes she cannot do it alone, she begins to let her guard down and learns to

accept Isabel into her and her children’s life.
