DOLLARS TRILOGYANDALUCÍA

The famous Dollars Trilogy, made up of; A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, could be considered as Leone’s personal canvas, which he covered with a whole repertoire of narrative and aesthetic tools which he then went on to use, to create a di�erent subgenre of Western cinema. This subgenre was somewhat contemptuously referred to as spaghetti westerns, however, when discussing the Western genre, we can not fail to mention European Westerns.

The Dollars Trilogy also left its mark on the province of Granada. At the beginning of the �lm For a Few Dollars More, the La Calahorra appears in a railway scene, transforming this location into the �ctional Tucumcari Station in New Mexico.

In The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Granada is used as the backdrop for more of the total running time than in any of Leone’s other previous �lms. The scene in which Sergeant Wallace (Mario Brega) took Tuco (Eli Wallach) as a prisoner to the train, was �lmed in the La Calahorra Train Station with the participation of a considerable number of extras. The following scenes, once the characters were boarding the train and when the train was in motion, were shot on the train track that connects the station to the Alquife mines in

Guadix, and in those same scenes we can see the famous and cinematographic Baldwin locomotive, with the Sierra Nevada and la Sierra de Baza creating a spectacular backdrop to this scene.

Sergio Leone’s greatest contribution to the province of Granada didn't come until 1968 with the shooting of his iconic �lm, Once Upon a Time in The West, although that is another story in itself.
