Rewards CheckingWe’re one of the few institutions to have rewards associated with our checking account. The product is named MyStyleSM because it allows you the freedom to choose the features you use most—things like bill pay, online banking and eStatements —as well as the rewards that come with it.

When you have a MyStyle Checking account, you have access to music downloads, cash gifts, loan discounts, credit monitoring, ID protection and interest-earning options.

Rewards Visa Credit CardOur Visa Credit Card carries perks such as no balance transfer fees, low-rates and no annual fee. The rewards are unique because it’s our program so the awards are not tied to a specific airline or one specific merchandise line.

Not only do we offer great rewards, we give you more opportunities to earn double points.* As you head off to do your summer

travel, earn double points on all purchases. We also offer double rewards during the holidays.

STUDENT lOANS

Whereas many banks and lenders have stopped of-fering private student loans to focus on bigger, more profitable loan types, you still can depend on Mountain America to help you pay for school. Credit unions, like Mountain America, have lower loan rates and provide more products and services for students, according to CBS Money Watch.

You should first exhaust all sources of free money for school—grants and scholarships—and federal loans. Then an Education line of Credit from Mountain America can help fulfill any remaining financial need.

u loans up to $25,000u No origination feesu No prepayment penaltiesu low, variable interest rate based on prime and your

If you already have private student loans, we still can help. Think about consolidating your loans using our Education Repayment loan for a better payoff strategy. For more information on Mountain America’s Student loans, visit www.macu.com.

SChOlARShIP WINNERS

Mountain America congratulates the winners of its two 2013 scholarship programs. The skills these students have already developed, along with their proven com-mitment to excellence, will no doubt lead them for-ward to achieving the ambitious goals they have set and futures filled with extraordinary opportunities.

Paul R. Ball ScholarshipThe Paul R. Ball Scholarships are awarded every May to three students, who receive $2,000 each. The pre-sentations for these awards are made at the students’ local branches by the branch manager. The winners of the Paul R. Ball Scholarships were leaRose lee, Erin Cavender and Erica Koltenuk.

Mountain America/UPEA ScholarshipThe Mountain America/Utah Public Employees Associ-ation Scholarship provides three, $1,000 scholarships, which were awarded to the recipients earlier this year at the annual Utah Public Employees general Assem-bly. The winners were Christine henry, Quinn Pitcher and Dallin Clayton. p

MOUNTAIN AMERICA

The average credit card debt is currently $7,073 per household.1 With that amount of money on the line, it’s important to understand the terms and conditions of your card.

For instance, do you know what would happen if you went over the credit limit on one of your credit cards, or if you made a late payment? If you got the card from a large national card issuer or department store, chances are you’d be charged higher rates and fees, and you might find your interest rate hiked to nearly 30% if you fall on hard times.

low-Rate Credit Card Comparison2

The terms and conditions of credit cards can vary greatly from one financial institution to another. Here’s how Mountain America’s Visa® Platinum Credit Card compares to a handful of competitors:

If you’re not satisfied with your current credit card, it may be time to switch. We recommend considering a card from a credit union. In most cases, you’ll find cards like Mountain America’s Visa Platinum Rewards Card feature some of the best rates and terms (as shown above). Switching to a low-rate card like this can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars in inter-est over the years.

Plus, now through July 31, you’ll earn two rewards points for every dollar spent. That’s twice the rewards points for gifts, travel and more.

2013 SUMMERMOUNTAIN AMERICA QUARTERLY NEwSLETTER

According to the National Clearinghouse for Long-Term Care (LTC) Information website, which is maintained by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 70% percent of individuals over age 65 will require pro-longed care at some point during their lives.

LTC policies can help pay for nursing home, assisted living and home care costs. While most people agree that preparing for LTC is extremely important, a recent study shows that less than half of Americans have taken steps to prepare for the costs associated with LTC.

Below are some eye-opening statistics:

u The average rate for a private nursing home in Utah ranges from $186 to $212 per day, according to the National Clearinghouse for LTC Information.

u The average rate for Utah in-home health care is $25 per hour, according to the Na-tional Clearinghouse for LTC Information.

u Utah is one of 29 states with “filial sup-port” laws that can be used to hold pa-tients’ adult children liable for unpaid LTC bills, according to Kelly Greene’s Wall Street Journal personal finance blog.

u Medicare does not pay for LTC, so you may want to consider options for private insurance.

Mountain America Insurance has partnered with Intermountain Insurance to help our members prepare for their LTC needs. If you would like a complementary LTC Shopper’s Guide, or for more information, please call 1-888-LTC-LTC1 (1-888-582-5821) today.

Prepaid Cards—The New Way to PayPrepaid cards were once a niche product for people without bank accounts, but in recent years, they’ve begun to grow in popularity. That’s because they’re a convenient way to spend money like you would with a debit or credit card but without the hassle of handling cash or applying for credit. They also help consumers budget and prevent overdraft charges, since only the amount loaded on the card can be spent.

At Mountain America, we’re always searching for ways to help members financially, so naturally we looked into prepaid cards. The problem we found, however, is that most prepaid cards are ridden with fees—which is not how we do business.

That’s why we’ve developed a smart—and affordable—alternative: MyExpress Debit.

So Much More Than a Prepaid Card MyExpress Debit is like a prepaid card, so you can deposit money into your card account as needed and use it wherever Visa Debit Cards are accepted. And since you can only spend what you deposit, there are no overdraft or interest charges. However, unlike many prepaid cards MyExpress Debit has no monthly main-tenance, deposit or other hidden fees. It’s a safe and convenient way to shop, transfer money to teenaged kids or receive federal benefits.

Truly Versatile A MyExpress Debit Card can be used for just about anything:

u Load it with an allowance and teach younger children how to handle their money.

u Use it as a gift card—you can add funds at any time. u Budget funds for specific purchases. u Lower the risk of making online purchases—the card

is limited to the amount of funds you place on it.u Use it as a travel card.u Transfer funds instantly to your teen or college-aged

child for unexpected expenses. u Use it as a business per diem card.

Sign Up Today! For more details, and to get your MyExpress Debit Card, visit your nearest Mountain America branch. p
