Fellow Members,Spring has certainly arrived. The colors of the season are all around us. The beauty and new birth during spring brings a smile to my face.

I hope you find this splendid season as rejoicing as I do. We all have much to be thankful for.

March here at the Club was very successful. The Annual Squash Classic was sold out, with 144 racquets entered. Thank you to John Skeldon and the Classic committee for all of their hard work. The Explorers went to Toledo Spirits and enjoyed a tour, followed by dinner at the Club. Families enjoyed a Leprechaun Hunt on Saturday, March 16, and we had another Family Movie Night in conjunction with Third Thursday in the Tavern. Play the Feud, a new and exciting event organized by Laura Baird and Tim Effler, closed out March for us. These, as always, were only a few of the highlights during the month!

April gets started with a bang the first week with First Tuesday, Members’ Jam in the Red Room on Friday, and the Great Wizards’ Feast on Saturday. ZIPZ is being hosted by Dr. Celso Antiporda and will offer cuisine from the Philippines. Easter will bring beautiful smiles on the children’s faces for the Easter Bunny and of course The Toledo Club Easter Brunch! There will be three seatings for brunch so don’t delay making a reservation. Friday, will be The President’s Dinner. See the cover story about Fr. Nathan Cromly, beginning on the following page. He is a Catholic Monk who will share his story of faith and entrepreneurship with us that evening. See the calendar for the full schedule of April events.

I want to take a few lines here and thank all our committees for their work here at the Club. We have 12 formal committees with between 90 and 100 members serving on them. In addition to those formal committees we have event committees and chair people who help the staff coordinate all the member events that take place here at the Club. Without all their hard work, we would not be able to have the great experiences we do. My sincere thanks to all my fellow members for the long hours they spend here volunteering!

In closing, I’d just like to wish you all a Happy Easter!

God Bless,

Brett J. Seymour, President

Dear Members,I have been at The Toledo Club for just a short time; however, I’ve already come to realize what a special place it is and why it needs to be a priority for all

of us to “Share the Experience and Share the Fun” with our family, friends and colleagues. Visit the Club’s website for a list of all the wonderful services and amenities you can spread the word about.

I am actively working with the membership and marketing committees, as well as the Board and management team on a Net Membership Growth Plan. I call this plan “Mission 2022” as the goal is a net increase of the active membership by 25 to 30 members in each of the next few years. That would raise our Club’s membership level to over 600 members by 2022.

The plan consists of three critical areas:

1. Recruiting new members

2. Retaining current members

3. Determining the future of the Club. What does The Toledo Club look like in the future to attract the younger generations?

My priority is to get our recruiting program back on track and start welcoming more new members right now. The most successful way to recruit new members is through our current members. We need your support, and the following are opportunities to help us:

1. Provide leads —names and contact information for folks you would like to share the Club with.

2. Bring guests to the Club for dinner, social events or even a tour of our beautiful clubhouse. Our Monday ZIPZ dinners or our First Tuesdays are great opportunities to show off the Club.

3. Think of companies and organizations you do business with and share those you feel would benefit by having someone on their staff belong to the Club.

4. Share the wonderful things going on around the Club via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. This means you need to follow, like or check in at the Club online.

5. Sponsor an event for your family, work or a service organization you belong to. Expose our fantastic facilities to the community.

6. Let us know of a group or organization in need of a guest speaker. We have an excellent presentation on the history of the Club that would make for a great learning opportunity for a community group (i.e., Rotary, Kiwanis, etc.) or for a lunch and learn type of event.

To have a successful recruiting campaign we need everyone at the Club to get involved. Help us get back to over 600 members by 2022. Let’s Get our “Ask” in Gear!

See you around the Club!

Nathan was born in Toledo, the third child and second oldest son of Mark and Karen Cromly. He has a sister, Laura Brewster, and three brothers: Matthew, Aaron and Peter Cromly. Entrepreneurial roots run deep in his family. His grandfather, Charles Cromly, was the owner of Cromly Pharmacy in South Toledo.

He attended St. Joseph’s School in Maumee through the eighth grade, then went on to St. Francis de Sales High School, graduating in 1994. It was while attending World Youth Day in Denver, Colorado, in 1993 that he felt the call to become a priest. It was there that he heard then-Pope John Paul II extend a challenge all young Americans: “Rise Up! You are not made for mediocracy.” The Pope went on to say, “The Church needs You, Christ needs You, I need You.” That call was the moment Fr. Nathan knew his future as a Catholic priest. He enrolled at DeSales University in Center Valley, PA and received his bachelor of arts in theology in 1997. He became a teacher at Lehman Catholic High School in Sidney, OH, and in 1998 he joined The Community of Saint John in Laredo, TX.

At the Community, a young man goes through nine years of novitiate and formation during which they endeavor to enter fully into the family of St. John. The Brothers live in small communities called priories. During this period of formation, Fr. Nathan traveled in the United States and internationally, living the contemplative and religious life of the Brothers. Five years of this time was spent studying in France. In 2003, he led the first Eagle Eye Summer Institute for Catholic teens and young adults, and this became the

focus of his life work —leading spiritual development for teens and young adults across the world. While in Ars, France during 2007, he more fully developed his vision of Eagle Eye Ministries. That year, he was also ordained a priest in Illinois.

His work with teens and young adults continued after his ordination and in 2011 he founded The Eclesia Institute, a month-long formation of young people in the Catholic faith. The following year he established and led Eagle Eye summer institutes all around the United States. And in 2012 he was also elected Prior (leader) of The St. John Priory of The Brothers of Saint John in Laredo.

Father Nathan’s skills as a religious leader are not limited to teaching, speaking and mentoring. During 2014, he completed editing a book, Totus Tuus: A Contemplative Approach to Total Consecration Through Mary. Totus Tuus, a Latin phrase meaning ‘totally yours,’ was the motto of Blessed John Paul II. Taken from St. Louis de Montfort’s “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary,” it signifies our desire to give ourselves entirely to Jesus Christ through Mary.

In 2015 the Brothers of Saint John established a new Priory in Denver. One of its main missions was establishing the St. John Institute, a two-year MBA program in entrepreneurial business in conjunction with Walsh University in North Canton, OH. Another mission is graduates that truly have an entrepreneur’s mind and a missionary’s heart. On-line course work is provided by Walsh U. professors to students living in Community with The Brothers of St. John in Denver.

In addition to the MBA program, the Brothers of Saint John now own and operate Regina Caeli Hermitage, a Retreat Center in Littleton, CO. 2015 also was the year that Fr. Nathan started, and continues to run as part of SJI, the Faith and Leadership Consortium, which provides outreach to the business community.

Fr. Nathan spends his time taking groups of young adults, men and women, on excursions around the world. He finds himself in the most picturesque locations: backpacking in the Rocky Mountains in places like Aspen and Buena Vista in Colorado; and ice climbing, snow shoeing and skiing in places like Ouray, CO, Alaska or Maine. He takes week-long trips to the Grand Canyon and to the Anza-Borrego Desert in California. In addition, he takes an annual pilgrimage to visit historic religious sites. The pilgrimages are led by the Brothers of the Community to places like Fatima and Rome, and have included sailing on the Sea of Galilee, and even walking the Way of the Cross. Reaching new heights in all aspects of one’s life is the goal. Eagle Eye Ministries, one of the businesses of this adventurous entrepreneur, can certainly deliver both picturesque views and new visions of greatness for our futures.

As part of Eagle Eye Ministries and Saint John Institute, Fr. Nathan also offers podcasts about “Daring Great Things.” In this endeavor, he shares his view about the spirituality of work; work being an essential part of nature. He talks about the role of leaders and the difficulties of leadership due to outside pressures and the pressures we place on ourselves. The Saint John Institute also delivers a top Entrepreneurship MBA program that starts with a 21-day backpacking

trip. That time in the mountains aims to penetrate the minds and hearts of young people and learn about the challenges facing us in the world.

We ask, “Why the mountains?” and Father Cromly answers, “Have you ever been to the mountains? The mountains challenge us, purify us, summon us to answer the question: why are you here? We want people who are willing to dare great things, people who are willing to stretch the boundaries and push themselves. The mountains have this way of

unlocking the secrets of our potential and summoning our greatness. And when we get used to giving our greatness, it becomes like a beautiful hymn we give to the world!”

Currently, Fr. Nathan resides at the Transfiguration Priory in Englewood, CO. He travels the world preaching and teaching in varied settings, from the most rigorous backpacking, ice climbing, desert excursions to gymnasiums overflowing with teens, Eucharistic Adoration with young children, and men’s and women’s retreats. Offerings to business owners, married couples and theology classes for college students are also among his monthly routines.

As our interview came to an end, I asked Father Nathan a couple of questions specific to his appearance at the Club. The first was “Why are business owners included in your mission?” He responded this way, “What can I do to be part of Hope? What can I do to effect change? The power in the combination between faith and business with entrepreneurship, that’s how I can effect change and that’s the answer to ‘why business owners!’ ”

I also asked why he always talks about Toledo and why ne never says no to requests from Toledo. “Everything I am comes from my family” he said. ‘My family comes from Toledo; I am honoring my roots, roots make us strong. Therefore I share my talents and gifts helping Toledo to grow, which in turn helps my roots to grow!”

I hope many of you will join us for a magnificent evening on April 26. People of all faiths can benefit from the message of hope that Father Nathan Cromly will share.

MEET THE TOLEDO CLUB’S NEW SOCIAL MEDIA CONSULTANT:

Daniel Woodcock

Have you noticed that The Toledo Club has more Facebook posts and an expanded social media presence? Credit that to Daniel Woodcock and his media expertise. He is a University of Toledo graduate, originally from Chardon, Ohio. Daniel serves as President of Peacock Social, an agency that provides social media and digital marketing consulting and services to non-profits and mission-based organizations that include Metroparks Toledo, Toledo Symphony, St. Francis de Sales School, and Imagination Station.

Daniel co-founded Toledo Matters Media and is a co-host of the Toledo Matters Podcast. He is also the newly appointed chairman of TARTA’s Transit Services Committee and a member of its Board of Trustees. Daniel volunteers his time serving on Toledo Rotary’s membership development and international services committees; as Chairman-Elect of EPIC TOLEDO’s advisory council; the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce’s young professionals program, and also serves on the board of

directors of both Downtown 419 and the Uptown Association. A hobbyist racquetball player in college, he has found a passion for the game of squash.

Daniel will be introducing The Toledo Club’s events on its social media pages and begin to highlight some of the many things that make our Club one of the most unique atmospheres in Toledo (and will inject a little humor). He hopes to attract a younger membership to the Club and its events through these efforts.

PAYING IT ForwardWhether they decide to pursue a life of service to the community or incorporate the philosophy of “paying it forward” into their business, those who engage in activities designed to benefit people and society not only benefit the public good, but also inspire others to follow their example. In this series, Topics shares the stories of some members who have shown unselfish concern for the welfare of others.

Throughout my one-on-one dialogue with Mr. Cleves Delp, it was very clear to me that his dedication and the success of his business, TDC Companies, originates from his roots and what matters the most to him— family, the people surrounding him, and his faith.

With the slogan prominently displayed on his company website, “Helping Families Be Families,” Cleves has given credit to the people. “Many people have helped me along the way. It is not only the clients’ families, but also our colleagues‘ families. And I am blessed to be surrounded by people who do incredible things every day,” he said passionately.

Nevertheless, there’s no question that family has been a big part of his success. Cleves’ father, the late John Delp, founded the firm in 1958. Originally called the John J. Delp Company, it has had a tremendous influence on Cleves. John used to say, “there is no wrong way to do right things and there is no right way to do wrong things.”

In business practice, Cleves is committed to innovation and goes after the most sophisticated portion of the business. To use a metaphor,“instead of fishing for a fish, he fishes for a pond.” He is a big believer in developing a strategic financial strategy to maximize gifts for non-profit organizations.

In honor of Cleves’ father, John, and his introduction to Hillsdale College and subsequently his grandchildren’s matriculation there, Delp Hall was funded by donations from Cleves and John. Three of Cleves’ children are Hillsdale College graduates and one is currently enrolling there. The youngest one also plans on going to Hillsdale upon acceptance.

Delp Hall, completed in 2000, was the inspiration for Cleve’s philanthropy. It was the first charitable contribution he made; the beginning of a great journey of giving. It is a journey from success to significantly changing lives.

Cleves has been gifted with the mentality of giving through his father’s teaching, just as he echoed, “You have to think that way and learn philanthropy. Your natural teachers are your parents and church.” Another big contribution was the Mercy Field Baseball Complex, appraised at three million dollars, which he owned and rented to Central Catholic High School and Lourdes College for six years and then sold the naming rights to Mercy Hospital. In 2017 Cleves, a Central Catholic alum, donated the Complex to the Toledo Community Foundation, which administers the Complex financially.

Cleves’ wife, Kathy, as described by her husband, is quietly powerful. “She is clearly the boss of the family, although it may appear that I am,” he said with a quick-witted smile. She is extremely disciplined with their five children. Kathy defines the limits and sets up the rules. As the mainstay of Cleves and his business, Kathy not only understands her husband, but respects him. To use Cleves’ own words, “She makes it easy for me to ’re-enter ’ after travel. She supports me endlessly.”

Cleves’ has taken his father’s firm from a small company focused on helping affluent clients, their families and their businesses with life insurance, to a group of multi-dimensional wealth and risk management firms consisting of the following TDC companies: TDC Investment Advisory, TDC Marketing, TDC Life, BridgePoint Risk Management and PandoTree Trust Company. The transformation of the business cannot be overstated—from four employees and a single location in 1993 to 130 employees at the various locations of today. What triggered this vast transformation of businesses is all client-driven. Cleves explained, “Our clients help us decide what needs to be built on in terms of their wealth. In order to be more relevant in the wealth business, we are doing more than just managing money, but finding many ways to serve our clients and their needs.”

The next business adventure for Cleves is to help connect wealth and purpose. He is focusing on building a service for

governance and education for family wealth. It consist of three modules:

 1. Money Mind - How the family thinks about money.

 2. Honest Conversation - Help leading spouses in the family to have a bigger voice in setting goals.

3. RightTrak - Help the next generation stay on the right track with respect to savings, investment, spending and financial management. The fabric of our country depends upon the success of each family and the success of our next generation. In other words, per Cleves, “wealth compounds the pressure of success for families being families. Therefore it is responsible to encourage and educate all members of families to be part of wealth planning, which is critical to the very success and freedom that our country enjoys.”

Cleves Delp is currently a Hillsdale College trustee. He is also on the board of directors of Lion Street Inc. based in Austin, Texas. He and Kathy joined The Toledo Club in 2016.

The modern offices of the TDC Building in Maumee house many of the TDC companies.

In 2017 Cleves, a Central Catholic alum, donated the [Mercy Field Baseball] Complex to the Toledo Community Foundation, which administers it financially.

by Karen KleinDining Room BUZZ

Karen Klein No Fooling!First Tuesday will require no added finery this month; just your presence will suffice! Do mark April 2 on your calendar and bring a tale of April Fool’s Day. As usual, Chef Sean will offer very fine and tasty entrees plus a delish hors d’oeuvres table to nibble from during cocktail time. Of course the wine tasting will occur also! This event has become such a marvelous perk as members mix and mingle with many friendships ensuing. Try it! You’ll like it!

Sad to say, another season of Prime Rib on First Fridays will be put to rest, but not until after April 5 dances in. So give a good Yankee yell of Good-bye to Ole Man Winter as you and friends enjoy the king, queen or itsy-bitsy prime rib! Now Prime Rib (and the full menu) is NOT the only reason to visit that evening, but one knows that it would be quite enough. Members’ Jam will be playing all that fun music in the Red Room for cocktail time. The talented kids from the Toledo

School for the Arts prove there is a fu-ture for music as they add some singing talent. Do at-tend and come away smiling!Holidays arrive like clockwork; Christmas, 4th of July and one’s birthday,

for instance. And then there’s Easter! Who knows when? And this year’s date just seemed to prolong winter’s grip on Northwest Ohio. But never fear, Easter WILL arrive! It just happens not to be until the THIRD Sunday in April. Do join the exquisite Parade to your Club for the Fantabulous Easter Brunch! From ham to lamb and special brunch treats, to the oh-so-many chocolate desserts, the whole family will be thrilled to celebrate this special day. Of course, THAT special Bunny will be in attendance, charming all the young ones, and just perhaps, a few oldsters also! The Bunny Hop is optional. Brunch at The Toledo Club is such a lovely family tradition for many members; but DO make reservations!

Eating a little lighter for Spring? Chef Sean’s new menu offers such wonderful choices with the fish and chicken. But April weather can still be a bit testy at times and that’s when we shout “Where’s the Beef?” Fortunately, that call is answered with wonderful steaks; he uses that new broiler just right! And then, there is that fabulous lemon pie…

Happy and healthy is how the diners will feel at the ZIPZ Dinner on Monday, April 22. Be sure to mark that date to attend the Filipino feast which Dr. Celso Antiporda and his lovely wife, Lea, who are both fine dining aficionados, have put together! Beginning with a soup called sinigang, with salmon and veggies, chicken adobo which is prepared with garlic, vinegar and soy sauce, a noodle dish christened pansit bihon and ending with a dessert of a fantastic, melt-in-your-mouth flan, this buffet is a MUST event! Ed Mackiewicz will also offer several choices of white wines.

Three reasons induce attendance at one of the Club’s most special events, The President’s Dinner, held in the lovely Founders Dining Room on April 26.

First are the honors and accolades bestowed on the outgoing President of the Board, who has discovered that this office carries the weight of a part-time job; always on call and depended on to be Mr. Wise and Mr. Dependable. Appreciation is always a good thing.

Next is the speaker, Father Nathan Cromly, a person of national renown who is worthy of one’s attention. Marc Rayman last year had all spellbound with his knowledge, expertise and explanations of NASA space exploration.

Then there is the MEAL! This year, Brett Seymour and Chef Sean have chosen for the cocktail time in The Red Room a decadent seafood display, cheese board and assorted canapés. For dinner upstairs, the salad will be baby spinach and kale with candied pistachios and crumbled goat cheese. The entrée will be a tender beef filet Oscar, topped with king crab and asparagus. Glazed baby carrots and a smoked gouda twice-baked potato will accompany. Dessert will be a deliciously rich peanut butter mousse cake. Wine will be on the table.

Three deserving reasons that definitely merit your attendance. Oh, and an opportunity to meet YOUR Board Members and to enjoy an evening at YOUR Club!

by Cindy NiggemyerDid You Know

Ah love! And who can write about it better than William Shakespeare? Romeo and Juliet was written with a romantic language that has moved multiple generations to tears. It contains everything needed to set a dramatic stage. “For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo.” So, can this story be brought to our Toledo Club members?

On Friday, May 3, the Toledo Opera will be bringing Opera on Wheels to the Club. This great program brings opera, complete with sets and costumes, to our local elementary schools. Over 20,000 children per year are treated to exceptional voices. This year Toledo Opera has chosen to perform Romeo and Juliet. What, you say? How can they structure such a tragic play for children of a younger age? It’s simple. The audience gets to choose the ending. Do they want a sad or a happy ending? They choose the happy one every time.

Our event includes a family-friendly buffet from 5:30 to 7 PM, followed by 75 minutes of glorious music. Adults, be not afraid—you will be fully entertained. We welcome families, grandparents and those just interested in a listening experience. You will leave saying, “Good night, good night. Parting is such sweet sorrow. That I shall say good night till it be morrow.”

The cost is $28 for adults and $14 for children, ages 5–11. Due to space restrictions, reservations are limited. Call the reservation line at 419-254-2961, or reserve on The Toledo Club app.

What’s Coming Up?

If Romeo and Juliet’s perhaps not your cup of tea, maybe you’ll be more excited about the formation of The Toledo Club’s new Rod & Gun Club.

This club, an idea conceived by Philip Rudolph, Jr., will be underway by summer. Plans are in the works for quarterly events that may include a summer charter fishing trip for walleye or fly fishing at Sunnybrook Trout Club in Sandusky. Perch fishing in the fall is another

option. Plans for a pheasant hunt in the winter and a Sporting Clays tournament next spring round out the year. Mr. Rudolph is looking for additional members to serve on the committee and be active with the events.

Contact Mr. Rudolph at [email protected] for more information on becoming a part of this new Toledo Club adventure!

For those who love the drama of the bard. . .

. . . .and for those who prefer the drama of the hunt.

Our wedding push did not stop at the Bridal Show. Mark your calendars —and contact any engaged couples you know—because The Toledo Club will be holding an Open House for them to tour our beautiful building on Saturday, April 13 from 12–4 PM; admission is free. This is a great opportunity for couples to meet and talk with vendors while also discovering what The Toledo Club has to offer. Tours will be taking place throughout the afternoon. Please feel free to reach out to Devon Layman for more information. Or, if you have any questions call at 419-254-2981 or email at [email protected].

Finally, to all of our members, we want to honor all of those who have been married at the Club by spotlighting the many generations of weddings that have taken place here. In the Bridal Showcase Room there is a monitor that will run a slide show that will remember your special day. The Toledo Club staff is looking toward viewing the many photo contributions from these past weddings. Please email your digital photos to [email protected] with your anniversary date, so we can archive your Toledo Club wedding!

Wedding bells have begun to ring and the wedding season is finally here! Your catering office has been on a big push for weddings and needs your help to make this a record year.

Great news! There is now a Wedding Showcase Room at the Club. It is located on the second floor across from the Tavern. When brides come to tour and travel throughout the Club, we are proud to use this room and show that our Toledo Club is a THE premier venue for weddings around the area. We encourage our members to visit us, too. Can you bring in a newly engaged couple? We will love to sit down with couples and talk to them about the exciting options the Club has to offer.

In January, we got the ball rolling on weddings when The Toledo Club catering office went to the Super Bowl of Bridal Shows at the Premier and Stranahan Theater. This show is the largest of its kind in Northwest Ohio. Over 3,000 individuals come to meet with vendors and start their planning for a fabulous wedding. What a great way to expose the public to what we have to offer! Several weddings were booked, and your Toledo Club staff plans to do more events in the future. We received great feedback from couples about our beautiful historic venue. They

TEAM STACKED DECK TAKES TEAM TITLETeam Stacked Deck pulled out to a very solid lead on the Berling Wall only to have ‘The Wall’ stage a stunning comeback to the extent that it went down to the final two matches before Stacked Deck pulled away and took the victory over Audrey Berling’s The Berling Wall team. Captain Nick Stack pulled out a surprise 3-0 win over Audrey Berling only to have Dan Effler and Tom Baird of the Berling Wall bounce their opponents to avenge defeats during the regular season. Christian Piazza and Cleves Delp pulled out two close 3-2 wins for Stacked Deck and Jen Wagoner and Aubrey Hornsby each won opening games of the final two matches to put the Championship out of reach and secure the victory for Stacked Deck! Congratulations to our 2018-19 Winter League Team Champions: Team 8 - STACKED DECK Nick Stack: Captain | Tyler McKean, Jesse MacDonald, Aaron Swiggum, Doug Andrews, Cleves Delp, Christian Piazza, Aubrey Hornsby, Katie Amato, Zak Vassar

Our 2018-19 winter squash league came to a close with the end of the regular season on February 13. The top four teams played off in the semi finals with Team Stacked Deck beating Rich Effler’s What the Eff team by a 22-15 games won tally. Audrey Berling’s The Berling Wall took down Tim Kalucki’s Shake n’ Bake by a tight 23-17 margin. Congratulations to our top four teams!

100% Participation Club Sets Record for 2018-19 SeasonThe players in the 2018–19 winter squash league had an incredible 84 players commit and played 100% of their matches for the season! This eclipses the record set last year of 72 players in the ‘100% Club’! Congratulations to all of the players and their captains that motivated them to reach this new goal! The 2018–19 edition also played an amazing 1,333 out of a possible 1,452 matches, or a 92% match completion rate! That’s a lot of squash, and a lot of tankards to be handed out on April 11 at Finals Night! Well done to all of our players that dedicated themselves to their teams and played all of those matches!

Junior squash players have studied their classwork in the ‘squash area’ for years, and prior to the Court 4 squash lobby’s existence they went upstairs on the bleachers behind Court 5 in order to find some quietude. After seeing the juniors struggle with the poor

lighting and the seemingly constant interruptions from well-meaning players, an idea took shape: Let’s dedicate some space behind Court 4 to a specific ‘study area’ so that the numerous student athletes here will have a place to study with less interruption and far better lighting. Give that idea to master shopper Kim Seidel along with a budget from the Captains Bids from Draft Night, and three days later The Toledo Club squash area had its study hall, complete with adjustable chairs, excellent lighting, noise-cancelling headphones, and a nice room divider to better separate the kids from the crowds.

Upon completion, immediate past squash committee chairman Mike Goetz put out an e-mail to the squash committee regarding naming the study hall area after Kim Seidel, longtime volunteer and better half of Toledo Club professional John Seidel. After educating, working with and mentoring juniors as a volunteer on Saturday mornings for over three decades, the replies to the nomination were unanimous in favor, and the Kim D. Seidel Study Hall is now a reality! Along with the catch phrase,

“Play Hard, Study Harder,” the plaque also lists the quality colleges and universities that are part of the legacy of The Toledo Club squash and academic program, including the following institutions:> United States Naval Academy (5)> State University of New York at Stony Brook> United States Military Academy at West Point> Saint Lawrence University> University of Western Ontario> Denison University (2)> Drexel University> Franklin and Marshall College> Bowdoin College

With some solid junior players in the pipeline we hope to add to this fine list in the future! Play Hard, Study Harder!!

Brian Kennedy, the director of the Toledo Museum of Art, has been named the executive director and CEO of the Peabody Essex Museum, located in Salem, Massachusetts. He will take up his new post at PEM in July 2019.

TMA was founded in 1901 and Brian served as its ninth director. His final day at the Museum will be June 30, 2019. “Brian is a visionary museum director who has had a significant impact on TMA’s visitors, its collection, the campus, and the surrounding community,” said Cynthia B. Thompson, chair of the Museum’s board. “His legacy will be felt in Toledo for generations to come.”

Brian and his wife Mary have been members of The Toledo Club since February 2011. In the coming months, the board will name an interim director and begin the search process for the Museum’s next inspiring director.
