Hello from Mottisfont Abbey!

The grounds are still awash withautumn leaves as I write, and it’svery peaceful – do pop in for a walkif you’ve time; it’s just lovely at themoment. The team are busyputting up Christmas decorationsall around the house, while Nancy’samazing illuminated shark has

taken up residence in one of the Stables offices, ready to join its jellyfish friends and all those madeby the village in the lantern parade in Romsey.

Time to apply for annualMottisfont Abbey Parish Passes

It’s the time of year when we renew our invitation toall residents of Mottisfont and Dunbridge Parish tovisit Mottisfont Abbey as often as you like (during ouropening hours of 10am to 5pm or dusk if sooner). Allyou need to do is apply for a 2017 Parish Pass foreach member of your family who is a resident in theParish. Here’s how it works:

• Email [email protected] and sayyou’d like to apply for a Parish Pass.• We will forward a form to you. Please fill it in andreturn it to us, along with proof of your residence inthe parish. Each member of your family resident inthe parish needs their own pass, so we’ll need all oftheir details.• Once we’ve received both the completed form andproof of residency, we’ll send the pass(es) to yourhome address.• When you visit, just show your pass. The VisitorReception team may also ask for additional ID, justso we know that you’re the person named on thepass.

The passes only allow access to Mottisfont Abbey, not any other National Trust property – you’d need tobuy National Trust membership for that. You’ll needto reapply for your pass(es) each year. Also, noother family or friends are allowed in with thesepasses – they are just for people who live in theparish.

I do hope you’ll apply for passes. We want to sharethe Abbey and its grounds and gardens with ourlocal community, and you are all very welcome.

With best wishes,

LouiseLouise Govier, General Manager

Have yourself a Merry RecyclingChristmas!

Christmas is a busy time, but recycling yourChristmas waste is just as easy as recycling all yearround.

Having a party? Don’t forget to collect your glassbottles and jars and take them to your nearest LocalRecycling Centre. For those partial to a mince pie ora glass of Buck's Fizz, you can also recyclealuminium foil and cartons at selected sites. Withover 100 Local Recycling Centres across theborough, it’s easy to fit a visit in around shopping, theschool run or even a trip to the gym. To find yournearest site, visit www.recyclenow.com/localrecycling.

Paper and cardboard, including envelopes, greetings cards and packaging, as well as plastic bottles, tinsand cans should all be put in your brown bin for recycling. Extra recycling can be placed next to your brownbin in a large cardboard box and will be picked up by our collection teams. Unfortunately, gift wrap mustbe put in your black bin as many contain foil and plastic film which cannot be recycled.

Once the festive season is over, you can dispose of your real Christmas tree at one of our temporarycollection sites across the borough. Sites will be in operation from Tuesday, 3rd January to Sunday, 15thJanuary. Your nearest site is in the Alma Road car park, Romsey.

For more Christmas waste and recycling tips follow Recycling Stars on Facebook.

Dear Friends,

Christmas is coming, the Church isglad to sing, and let the Adventcandles brightly burn in a ring!

This was one of the little ditties or introductions thechoir used to sing in one of my previous churches, and the words never leave my mind as we approachthis time of the year. It is an exciting time as we aregetting ready for something very special and unique.

Families are preparing to get together, and othersare making sure that no one is intentionally leftalone. But it is also unique, as it's all about therescue of us by (of all things) a young child…Thebaby Jesus came to us to point the way to life and arelationship with God.

It is always so special to be able to worship againwith our wellknown carols, and be reminded ofChrist’s humble but spectacular beginnings. He wasborn into a humble dwelling, but with fanfares ofangels. What a way to arrive from a place in heavento humility on earth an arrival that meant that hecould encompass everyone, and no one would beexcluded from the invitation to come to him.

The angels brought a really important message forus throughout all ages: ‘and the glory of the Lordshone round about them; and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for behold, Ibring you good tidings of great joy.’ (Lk 2:810)

Fear not! Joy is coming into the world. This is themessage of the angels, and that joy is available toall of us today. We can hold that Christ child in ourhearts, and know that God is with us no matter whatcircumstances we find ourselves in.

Jesus said, ‘fear not little flock for your Father hasbeen pleased to give you the kingdom’ (Lk 12:32).When we are linked to him in faith we are renewedas his children, and as his people, and then as suchwe receive the reassurance that we are God’s, andno matter what happens to us in the world, God willbe with us even to the end of time. We are hisforever!

Please join us, bring all that you are, all yourconcerns, and all your thanksgivings to ourChristmas services, and join with us as we celebratethe casting out of fear and the gift of faith in the NewBorn King!

With Christmas Blessings,

Ron CorneRector

• Pedestrian safety in Mottisfont village: toimplement the full scheme proposed by HampshireHighways would cost £14,000. The Parish Councilfelt this would not improve the situation greatly andwas not therefore a good use of parish funds.Hampshire Highways are prepared to implement avirtual footpath with a white line. The Parish Councilis to suggest to Hampshire Highways that parishfunds be used to implement a coloured virtualfootpath in addition to a white line, as this woulddefine a clearer walkway and therefore be moreeffective.

• The potholes at Mottisfont and Dunbridge stationwill be repaired as part of a resurfacing project forthe Lockerley Road/B3084 junction. It is estimatedthat this work will take between two and five days, and is due to take place on or after 12th December.Pedestrian and reasonable access to adjoiningproperties will be available.

• Copies of agreed Parish Council meeting minuteswill be published on village notice boards when theybecome available.

Dark chocolate and amaretto cheesecake

This recipe serves 8 people.

Ingredients:200g melted dark chocolate400g full fat soft cream cheese50g amaretto1 packet of amaretto biscuits(150g)50g melted butter100g double cream

How to make it:Grease the edges of an 8inchloose bottomed tin, and linewith baking paper. Blitz theamaretto biscuits in a blender,or place the biscuits in a sealedbag and hit with a rolling pin, until all broken up. Then meltthe butter and mix it with the crushed biscuits.Make an even layer of the mixture in the bottom ofthe tin, and chill it in the fridge while making thefilling.

Beat the cream cheese until soft, and then add thecream and the amaretto, mixing to loosen thecheese. Once this is thoroughly mixed, melt thedark chocolate and leave it to cool slightly. Thenpour the chocolate into the cheese mix, and gentlycombine the two. If it is not sweet enough, add alittle icing sugar.

Retrieve the chilled base from the fridge. Put thecheesecake mix in a layer on top of the base, andthen knock it gently on the table so that any air atthe bottom of the tin is removed. Once the mix isspread evenly, return the tin to the fridge to chillovernight for the best result.

Once thoroughly chilled, remove the cheesecakefrom the tin, and discard the paper lining. Using ahot clean knife, cut the cheesecake, wiping theknife each time so you get a clean cut. Servewithout delay.
