We breathe challenges.

Just a decade ago, if not niche, long distance endurance motorcycle riding was virtually unheard of. With the allure of getting out of the city and exploring the countryside, motorcycle riders often found themselves enjoying what the provinces haven’t that the Metro has a lot of: traffic jams, pollution, potholes and dangerous whatnots looming about. Many are finding joy in exploring the farther.

The Tour Team Spyder(or TTS as they have been called), is a collective of riders who find joy in the challenge of endurance riding. The team, as initiated by Spyder, aims to promote the beauty and enjoyment of long distance riding. All of the members are veteran marathon riders and are a staple in the endurance events. Though each has his chosen field of profession, with different quirks and personalities, all are united in the promotingof what poses to be a mainstream event.

All donning the Spyder brand, all riders proudly and exclusively parades the streets with differing and assorted Spyder helmets. Spyder, a popular brand of motorcycle helmet, shows to cater to all kinds bikes and riders, from the scooters and underbones, to offroaders, to above 400cc bikes. The TTS riders are posed to be regulars on all endurance and touring events. They and their “Spyderized” bikes will also be omnipresent in all Spyder activities and campaigns.

Being a member of the TTS has its privileges, such as freebies, priority in all Spyder events and activities, sponsored rides and much more, aside from the helmet, riding jacket and eyewear. It is no wonder that, many are enticed and asks on how to be a part of the exclusive group. As of now, application for membership is selective. But Spyder is always on the lookout for exceptional riders who have the passion for long rides and the stylish fashion sense to wear the Spyder brand.

The current roster of the Tour Team Spyder:

Riders are oriented with what to expect about the clinic, next is the pre-ride inspection, the right riding gear and correct riding posture. The first part of the activity is a class room type lecture wherein the basics of motocross are being discussed. During his lecture, he instilled to his students the importance of safety gears especially in off-road riding. He once said that, “The value of your helmet, is how much you value your head”. He reminded the riders that they must be extra conscious in choosing a helmet, because the quality of helmet they wear depends on how much they value themselves.

The classroom type is then followed by actual demo wherein the proper braking posture, acceleration posture and cornering techniques were demonstrated.

Mr. Jing Leongson (1999 National Motocross Champion) was invited as guest instructor to give additional knowledge about Motocross as sport and imparted some techniques to newbie riders. He simply advised, “Always focus in riding posture. Motocross is all about consistency; give your 100% in every ride, because motocross is a mentally and physically demanding motorsports.”

Club Cb110 InC.The History

The club had a regular hangout at Caltex Boni form 7pm onwards during Saturdays and at J. Vargas from 4pm during Sundays, wherein they casually discussed matters pertaining to the group and have held the club’s officers. With its growing population, members have registered it at SEC and formally named the group as CLUB CB110.

Starting off with just a few members, the Club CB110 started to brave rides to various spot in Luzon, challenging zigzag roads and hairpins along the way. It is now doing a monthly, weekly or even a daily ride wherever and whenever the members have agreed to it.

Club CB110 Inc., has its advent in the year 2010, right after Honda CB110 was introduced in the Philippines. After a long discussion on the specs and possible modifications of the CB110, a group rider geared up to an exhilarating ride to Tagaytay, and thus started the formation of the group.

Despite controversies surrounding the elected officials of the Club CB110, the loyal members have reigned to get back the supremacy from its corrupt officials. Up to date, CLUB 110 is going stronger and is resilient in any ways possible. The club is an active member of the motorcycle-rider community, joining rides and other MC lifestyle happening in the Metro or the outskirts of the city.

Club CB110 is now enjoying the life of a rider as responsible individual; each member is an advocate of road safety, camaraderie and a burning passion for motorcycles.

The great ride traversed from Marikina to the scenic province of Quezon ending to General Nakar with an ample rest at around 12 noon, their hunger was erased by a sumptuous lunch, their thirst was quenched by a refreshing drink and their effort was paid off by this thrilling journey.

The ride continues up to the astonishing Agos Resort which has signalled the end of their drive to General Nakar, which has become the nesting place of the event where fun filled and exciting activities were installed for them by HPI. Giving the riders the chance to bond and establish camaraderie and friendship with everybody.

There are many solutions other than this...

1. Police visibility must increase - If they can deploy 10,000 police during SONA,

why can’t they deploy a few hundred that roams the streets daily?

2. Arm the police with motorcycles so they have the same tool that the criminals use.

Fight fire with fire.

3. Improve on intelligence so that the police will have an advantage over these

criminal elements...

If TV stations can find the criminals and interview them, why can’t the police find

them and prosecute them?

4. Technology such as CCTV is getting cheaper and cheaper. Utilize this as a tool for

improved monitoring of the streets and hot spots.

5. Instead of creating resistance, why not create cooperation by putting up

Community Crime Watch programs?

Exhaust all efforts before passing the burden of their incompetence

to the riding PUBLIC. We are part of the PUBLIC as well.

MRO will continue to be in the service of the rider and without asking anything in return or with any political ambition. Just pure service and defense for our rights as riders. -jb

A reaction to all the new laws for motorcycles and its riders. So, it is alright for the riders to suffer for the incompetence of our enforcement to solve the problem of crime?

It is alright for us to do their jobs or do what is convenient for them. That is alright to change the slogan “to serve and protect” to “to be served and protected”?

That it is alright to forget that we, the riders who are made to suffer, is part of the public as well?

That is is alright to deny the riding public the equal protection of the laws?

That it is alright to discriminate and segregate the citizenry, because of their vehicle of choice?

A Bite to the Back: Sotto’s New Take on Motorcycle Back-riding

“MRO” AND “ARANGKADA ALLIANCE, INC.”RIDE AGAINST BACK-RIDE ORDINACEOF MAYOR ABALOS

On the News

Hundreds of thousands of people own motorcycles in the Philippines. Whether to save money from the punishing daily commuter’s nightmare, to avoid the traffic jams or for a business use, many depend on the sturdy two-wheeled vehicle for its convenience and cost cutting efficiency. But just imagine if one day, you can no longer ask a friend or a co-worker to be his backride on the way to school or work, may it be a casual or emergency situation?

That is just one of the problems that are starting to rise within Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto’s “Senate Bill 2344: No Relation, No Backride” policy of inhibiting unrelated people to ride together in a motorcycle. If the bill is passed, violators, upon conviction, will be fined P20,000 and be imprisoned for six months and one day for the first offense, with an additional P10,000 for the succeeding offenses. It should affect

motorcycle riders using the national roads and highways. Many people are now clamoring about this rigid law, by which Tito Sen, with his Skul Bukol-days bravado, is strongly defending, claiming that it could be a measure to help the law enforcement in fighting the rising criminal rates related to “riding-in-tandem” felonies. Though he quickly backed up the idea, saying that he expresses

By: Jeoff Arma

By: AJADON

We have the laws, we don’t need new ordinances. We need law enforcement. We felt that there is a crime done against us!!!” A very strong statement from Martin Misa, Vice-Chairman of “MRO” (Motorcycle Riders Organization) together with the Chairman of “Arangkada Alliance Incorporated”, Rod Cruz gathered last September 19, 2014 to file a Temporary Restraining Order/ Injunction against the Anti-Back Ride Ordinance of Mayor Abalos of Mandaluyong City. The association who represents the riding community comprised of Forty-One Thousand active members mostly of motorcycle clubs and organizations, “MRO” and ”Arangkada Alliance, Inc.” has the right to say that they are the right person to be consulted when ordinances regarding riders and motorcyclist is concern. They will ride from Shell Julia Vargas to

Mandaluyong Municipal Hall to express to what they called to the ordinance “Stupid!” They want to make a message that this will only make another income-based scheme of the culprits. Money collected from the riders is not controlled and audited by the Commission on Audit.

Majority of the new ordinances such as plate-vest, check-points, helmet and gear requirements and back-ride policies gives motorcycle riders confusion. Different ordinances have been implemented on a per city basis. Mayor Abalos of Mandaluyong City claimed “Zero Street Crime” has been reported after imposing the ordinance. The concept is compared to Colombia’s country-wide implementation as to city-wide coverage of his. Offenses when reprimanded will damage

Php 1,000.00 in the pocket. This ordinance will take effect 6 months and if results incur ineffective, it will be temporarily suspended until further improvement.

To follow the ordinance or not, this is what sir Martin and sir Rod has infused for all of us. Riders and motorcycle enthusiast, we have a right and responsibility in our community. We have to have respect on the streets. We must not to let other people do what they want to us. Let us educate ourselves on streets and treat others with dignity. Let us do what is necessary – respect the pedestrian; walk inside of the pedestrians and sidewalks; avoid cutting on corners; avoid hitting side mirrors and side panels of the vehicles; and most specially do your part as responsible riding siklowistas!

great interest in having the people of the country decide on his proposal, the Motorcycle Philippines Federation’s spokesperson Arturo Sta. Cruz rebutted the issue, saying Senator Sotto was even the one to blame after stopping his earlier campaign of drug testing for drivers and motorcycle riders alike. He also added that instead of passing the law, the government must concentrate on improving police visibility and communication equipments in the Metro and reorganizing the Highway Patrols back to duty. Even the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), criticizes Sotto’s proposal, saying that the law is clearly against human rights. It should also be remembered that Senator Sotto filed a bill on banning children under the age of 12 of backriding in a motorcycle, citing the potential hazards of the practice. So which side are you on? Whatever your reasons may be, we must never forget about the true spirit of riding, with or without a passenger on your back.

Chain Adjustments

Scooter TireRemoval

Tips

Tips

By: Joel I. Joya

It sucks having bike trouble in the middle of nowhere kung saan ang akala mong fun adventurous weekend ride ay magiging isang disaster lang pala? Especially if you know-nothing-about “quick fixing-gang-ho-mekaniko-style-pwede-na-bahala-na-tatakbo naman-at-makakauwi-rin-ako-mentality?! “

Well, dapat all of us riders know quite a bit when it comes to the DIY quick solutions in emergency situations na kakailanganin natin para tayo ay makauwi galing sa ating ride.

Usually naman maraming mga nakakalat na shops na pwede tayong tulungan sa mga bike breakdowns natin… pero it is still an advantage to have your own knowledge skillwise.

Now, let’s talk about chain, clutch adjustments, and Scooter tire removal.

“These perhaps are the most common

breakdown problems, we riders experience.”

Chain AdjustmentNapakahirap talagang maputulan ng chain in the middle of our ride, so here are some quick tips for you:

Scooter Tire removalThe most tiring tire removal in cases of flat tires ay ang rear tire ng scooters. Compared to the basic motorcycle, the scooter has its engine pully directly at the rear tire by belt. So you need to learn from this steps for ease of trouble.

Place the bike on the centerstand (rest it on its sidestand if you have no centerstand) Check the tension along the chain’s lower run, about halfway between the front and rear sprockets.

Put your scooter on center stand for easy access removal.

Remove the exhaust from its nuts and bolts.

Remove the rear mud guard if there is any so that the rear wheel will be easily accessed.

Hold the rear brakes to be able to loosen up the center nut that is holding the rear wheel.

Loosen the axle nut (or nuts, if there is more than one). You will have to remove a security pin on most bikes when undoing the axle nut.

When you have tightened your chain by the desired amount, tighten down the outside nuts. Retighten the axle nut.

Adjust the chain by adjusting some bolts on the very end of the swingarm, one on either side of the wheel. Usually, there will be two hex-heads on each bolt—an inner nut to move the axle, and an outer nut to lock the other in place when finished. Loosen the outer nuts and then carefully adjust the inner nuts, moving the nuts on either side of the wheel an equal amount.

Clutch Adjustments Tips

Do It Yourself - TipsYour motorcycle maintenance guideGive your bike that tender loving care

Clutch AdjustmentsAnother troubling situation ay ang maputulan ka ng clutch lining, so better bring an extra clutch cable para malunasan ang mga insidenteng ito:

Loosen the tension on the clutch cable, turning the cable adjuster on the clutch lever perch clockwise until it is completely seated against the perch.

Remove the clutch cable from the motorcycle, cutting away any cable ties that may be securing the cable to the frame with scissors.

Attach the new clutch cable to the motor. Slide the cable into the retaining clips on the motor, tightening the clips with a screwdriver to secure the cable. Slip the barrel end into the notch cut into the clutch mechanism.

Route the clutch cable to the left handlebar. Pull the cable through the channel cut into the clutch lever. Screw the cable onto the clutch lever perch and adjust the cable tension using the cable adjuster. Turn the adjuster clockwise to loosen the cable, counterclockwise to to tighten the cable.

Remove the clutch cable’s end barrel from the recess on the bottom of the clutch lever. Pull the cable out of the channel in the clutch lever. Twist the cable adjuster counterclockwise to unscrew the cable from the clutch lever perch and pull the entire cable away.

Remove the clutch cable’s end barrel from the clutch mechanism on the motor, slipping the barrel out of the notch cut into the mechanism.

Pull out the rear wheel from the swing arm carefully and now you have safely removed the rear tire.

Dismantle the rear tire by removing the center nut off from the swing arm.

Bike Shoot-Out

It sure is fun to ride motorcycles for it gives you the much needed freedom you deserve. Some riders wants to test their limits through motorcycle racing making their bikes fast but street legal. Most riders are into street bikes and they also would like to take the street as an opportunity for fun by going fast and care free. Well, it’s not always accessible to go to the race tracks everyday right?

Dirt BikeShoot-outPeople into motorcycling really are the lucky bunch for they don’t really see the rise of fuel prices as a problem for motorcycles are fuel efficient. Even traffic won’t be a concern for every inch of space is a fun squeezing moment and rainy days are just a rain coat get up day.

Speaking of rainy weather, it is still really a pain riding through the flooded streets which also causes road deterioration making the street rough and bumpy with deep wholes that will surely test your bike’s suspensions. Making it costly in repairs especially when your engine gets dipped into flood waters.

There are bikes specifically designed to roll into any storm and they are the Dual Purpose motorcycles or Dirt Bikes. Dirt bikes may not be

as fast and as fine on turns and bankings on the street compared to street and sport bikes, but they can be very reliable both on the asphalt and off road. Dirt bikes can breeze through bumpy deteriorated roads and deep floody streets that can be really be perfect in our road conditions. Many streets destroyed due to government repairs (the irony of things) will never be a problem to this bikes.

It is also much fun to have dirt bikes on weekend off roading with friends and I gaurantee that you’ll enjoy every moment whether it rains or shines. The fun really is on this bikes and riding them on dirt tracks really is good for your body for all your muscles are used and burned.

We have tested and reviewed some well known dirt bikes in the country that most dirt riders use. The shoot out of dirt bikes we had were MCX Renegade 250, Yamaha XTZ125, and Honda XR125L. We staged the event at the private property of a friend in Molino Cavite. It was a fun day with the bike owners traveling from as far as Pampanga, Bulacan, and Taytay Rizal. The day wouldn’t be complete with out the help of our good Sponsors Spyder Philippines, Imarflex, and Ropali Corporation.

All we can say is that dirt bikes really are fun to ride whether for weekend trail rides or everyday commute. All the bikes we have tested really are worth every peny of your hard earned money, so go get yourselves one and find the joys of dirt bike riding the moment you squeeze that throttle.

XR125LThe Honda XR125L is not a ‘true’ XR (just check out the electric start and the large tank range) maybe, but this is a great little commuter and green-laner. It lacks power up top but there’s more than enough for town riding and a spot of weekend fun off-road. It looks absolutely gorgeous, too.

Ride Quality & BrakesThe Honda XR125L’s tall-ish seat gives a commanding riding position (great for city riding) but isn’t out of reach for the average rider. The bike’s narrow and very light, making handling easy and fun. Long travel suspension works well, brakes are ample and it’ll cruise at 50mph comfortably. Fifth gear’s a bit pointless: no extra “go” in it.

EngineThe Honda XR125L has a grunty, four stroke single with enough power to propel you around town with ease. Open roads and steep gradients prove a bit too much of a challenge, however. Very similar to the engine of the CLR125 City Fly and XL125R: in other words, it’s extremely reliable and long-lasting.

Build Quality & ReliabilityPlastic panelling ensures expensive dents are kept to a minimum whilst the Honda XR125L’s engine is capable of taking any amount of abuse thrown at it. However, problems with ignition coils and bikes cutting out prompted recalls on some machines. Make sure your bike’s sorted.

EquipmentThe Honda XR125L’s seat’s actually quite comfy, surprisingly, but equipment’s generally on the basic side. There’s a small screen, spoked wheels and a steel rear carrier for tying bits and pieces to. Extras include a top box (which looks hilarious) and a belly pan.

The Helmet is the only thing hiding our faces from the viewing public sa tuwing tayo ay nakasakay sa ating mga motor. Iba talaga ang karisma ng isang rider na naka full gear sa kalye because most people tend to get a glimpse of us everytime we are on a stop waiting for go.

People inside jeepneys and other public utility transport always affix their sight on us, na para bang nagiisip ko gwapo/maganda ba ang naka motor na ito? Kaya mas better talaga na hindi ko nalang tanggalin ang helmet ko! Hehehe… Vain lang...

Then again, I still stand by my belief that almost all Riders are good looking pero sadyang kailangan lang talaga magsuot ng helmet, kaya panggap-panggap lang muna maging isa sa mga pogi hehehe.

But there is one person we know na talaga gwapo mapanaka-helmet man o wala… siya po ay ang aming kaibigan na si Mark Chuidan.

Mark is Spyder Philippines’ Marketing Manager and he really is what we call a complete package. He is very smart especially once you get to talk to him, and he is also a serious and fun person.

Biker Dude Mark Chuidian

Interview:

MNM: How long have you been a rider?Mark: Since 1996 almost 20 years

MNM: Where are you working?Mark: Ngayon nagwo-work ako sa Spyder, yun yung brand na nagpro-provide for motorcycle riders and athletes ng cycling apparels helmets, shades eyewear and then motorcycle helmets, gears, jackets, gloves and all.

MNM: Can you balance work and ride?Mark: Of course, actually diko lang siya naba-balance, nagagamit ko pa yung riding ko sa work, because since Marketing Manager ako ng Spyder handling the motorcycle line ng products namin I get to ride a lot doing my work so diko na kailangan balansihen, basically because there is a lot of opportunity to ride because of my work.

MNM: What do you use often going to work, motorcycle or car?Mark: Oh definitely my motorcycle. Kahit anung mangyari kahit umuulan pa I probably still choose my motorcycle.

MNM: On your perspective, what are the advantages of motorcycles over cars?Mark: Marami, pero ahhh… kahit sinu naman tanungin mo diyan the most common would be gasoline mas tipid at masnakaka-weave through traffic and time siguro kasi yung can go through traffic so mas less yung time sa traffic traveling. Pero for me personally, ang the biggest advantage in riding a motorcycle on a daily basis especially when we are talking about home to work, the biggest advantage is really the fun, parang hindi ka stuck in traffic and going to the notion of your going to have to go to work and you count 30 minutes to hours traveling to work. Eto yung 3 minutes to hours of traveling from home to work and back to your home is actually fun kasi you get to ride, you know its something na ako gustung-gusto ko gawin, even if it’s city even if its traffic its still fun, so for me that’s the biggest advantage of a motorcycle.

MNM: Are you a member of any motorcycle club?Mark: Dalawa actually, yung isa for the longest time is Faith Riders Motorcycle Ministry and it’s basically a club group that ah yung focus naming is to bring the word of God to riders and bikers. The second one which is tinayo naming through the company is called “tour team spyder” and that naman is focused on

touring. If you’re familiar with Motorally, Manila Matnog Manila, Ironman, and any other touring activity here in the Philippines nayun yung purpose ng group to basically just travel and tours that represents the company in this events basically, so yun yung isang group namin.

MNM: How many bikes do you have?Mark: I have two, this one (CF Moto 650cc) this is a sports touring it is basically built for high speed, highways, and may baggage siya sa likod na built in so, it’s really meant for long rides na camping and staying overnight and stuff like that. The other bike is an MCX 250cc Renegade which is a motard naman siya and that really is for fun as in very torque and lots of power and no back aches what so ever, just fun lang talaga. Matangkad siya so nilusong ko nayan sa baha lagpas tuhod yung tubig so you can imagine how much fun it is.

MNM: You always go on long rides?Mark: Always! Siguro once a month I get out of Metro Manila either for work or for personal stuff so, I have to… sumasakit ang ulo ko after one week pag hindi ako nagri-ride ng mahaba and it’s a need for me.

MNM: What are the extremes you’ve done in motorcycling?Mark: I would say the most extreme was going to ahh… hindi pa lumalabas yung Manila Matnog Manila nun which is para lang ma-compare… the Manila Matnog Manila Challenge is you have to go from Manila all the way to Matnog which is dulo ng Bicol back to Manila within 24 hours, hindi pa siya ginagawa nun ay I went to Bicol pretty much one weekend overnight magisa, walang kasama pero may backride ako nun and we went to Bicol we left Friday night and arrived in Bicol at lunch time ng sabado, we did our thing there meron kaming mga activity na ginawa. Tulog kami ng mga 7 pm at pagdating ng 3 am ng Sunday ng morning back to Manila then pasok uli ng Monday, so pretty much yun na yung first long touring challenge ko and that is the most extreme kasi walang pahinga walang tulog and we had some activities to do there. And it got me actually started in joining ironman and Manila Matnog Manila and all of that, for its so hard but its so much fun.

MNM: Do you have any accidents before?Mark: Meron, ahmmm… I made a mistake once in hitting a corner, this was along Marilque papuntang Quezon basically. Downhill siya and then habang pababa at pakanan… tapos yung downhill nayun kumukulubot na yung asphalt kasi yung time na yun nagriripple yung asphalt

and I was hitting real hard and nagju-jump na yung bike habang nagbre-brake ako, eksakto naman may passenger jeep na paakyat… I ended up infront of the jeep at naglock yung bike sa bumper and lumipad ako over the hood and landed in the other side of the street, pero safe naman at okay naman ako and all I have to show for it is may sugat sa tuhod tapos ahh may kunting dugo here and there pero okay naman.

MNM: So what is your dream bike?Mark: Pwede bang bikes? Wala kasi akong kilalang rider na isa lang ang dream bike. Okay, uhmm…. Harley Davidson Sportster 883 not the fuel injected one but the carborator so old bike… pangalawa would be either the Kawasaki Versys 650 or Suzuki DRZ400 either of the 2 but preference ko yung DRZ para mas fun.

MNM: Do you have any other hobbies aside from motorcycling?Mark: My other hobbies involve motorcycling for you’ll see me at home probably in the garage nagti-tinker lang ako sa motor ko trying to see how I can make it a little more reliable, a little more faster, tightening this, adjusting that so that’s it. On the extreme case mahuhuli mo ko ng one weekend totally nakadismatle yung bike and sigurado yun its either pine-paint ko siya or mino-modify ko siya to something else, and that’s my hobby.

MNM: Any message to all the Siklowistas out there?Mark: “Ah, simple lang…keep riding, kahit anung mangyari sumemplang ka man, mahirapan ka man and no matter how hard life is… keep riding!” M

Zongshen Moto R155Zongshen Moto R155Dual Sports bike sure is hot in the market today because of the ride purpose ‘on’ or ‘off’ road. Some riders prefer more fun on asphalt than off road, but never stray away from some weekend off-road fun with the guys. The Motard class of motorcycles is best for riders who want to be sporty on their dual sports bike on both on-road and off-road riding. The knobby tires are replaced with road tires that are wide and slick to best grip the road on turns and banks giving it a sporty ride handling on road. The road tires shorten the height of the bike making the rider more close to the asphalt, but the dual sport comfortable suspension is still present to the feel.

Though built for on-road sportiness due to the wide tires, the motard class is also equipped to handle off-road soft trails because of the body chassis of the bike. The long suspension travel will still be off-road worthy though the tire grips may slide on difficult off-road condition because of the absence of knobby tires. But hey! It still is reliable in any road condition as long as we won’t be going up and down that mountain right? It still can take you river or stream crossing with less trouble compared to the conventional road bikes. The motard bikes are also perfect for bumpy, dilapidated roads of metro manila and the comfortable riding stance makes it great for everyday use.

MotorStar Philippines offers one of the best Motard motorcycles in the market with its

sure is one bike you can rely on!

The single cylinder, 4-stroke, water-cooled 149.5cc engine with electric and kick-starter has a 5-speed tranny and can go 120kph top. The manual, wet & multiple clutches make it ideal for heavy-duty operation. It is well and tested to go on-road and off-road long distance travel. Fuel consumption is at 1.8 liters / 100 kilometer making it very economical in daily ride. The 6.5 liters tank capacity is enough for long touring because of its fuel efficiency. The speedometer console has neutral and high beam indicators as well as a fuel gauge. Instrument clusters have ease of operation for a more focused ride.

The headlight is up to date in design and very bright in night rides making this bike suitable in any road environment. The taillight is mounted high, which makes it more visible to all motorist giving you a safer ride and the over-all bike design is top notched. The front and rear disc brakes, provides more secured stopping power and we love how functional it is even on rainy days with flooded streets.

The tires are wide and intimidating giving you the utmost respect from the other motorist around you. The Spoke wheel rims have 100/80-17/22kPa (front tire) and 130/90-15/250kPa (rear tire), which easily grips the road even on lean turns and ample enough on off-road travel. The comfortable ride-feel is felt and present thanks to its motocross riding position and dual sport suspension play. The long front forks, absorbs the rough roads well and the soft motocross seat soften the impact mainly due to its reliable mono shock. It is not as tall as other dual sports motorcycles, which make it easy to handle especially for short riders. The narrow body and light handling makes it appropriate for city traffic and soft trail riding. Mount a top box on this baby and you’re set to go on tours away from metro manila to the beautiful sceneries of the provinces.

Joy Mae Ortiz here, ‘Joy’ for short, 31,part time model and a mother of 3 lovely kiddos. I started riding motorcycles when I was 22, self-taught.. (am already a mom!) My first ride was a classic Yamaha RS 100, a two stroke motorcycle for tricycles. From then, I learned to manage the ride and enjoy the fresh air that brushes through my hair during the ride. Not content with the 90KPH maximum speed of the ride, after a week i bought a much better and faster ride, the popular RAIDER 150. I maintained to keep that ride for almost 7 years. I changed rides from a Suzuki Raider to a Yamaha R15 last year… and it was a good match to my riding style, handling and need for speed.

I have been riding my Yamaha YZF-R15 for a year now , it is very easy to handle, very stable that in fact I can do some few stunts (please find herewith photos attached) I have also driven CBR 150, KTM Duke 200/399, Kawasaki Ninja 650, CRF 250 ,forgot the rest on the road the fuel injected engine is well fuelled in all settings, it’s both smooth and responsive.

It copes well in traffic log-jams and then unleashes mega performance as soon as the road opens up. Great acceleration!! The clutch-action is nice! The suspension soaks up all but the roughest road surfaces well and the handling is excellent, combining straight line stability responsive turn in and the ability to hold a precise line in fast cornering.

Ridden at 120kph to 130kph I would say a R15 is quite economical, giving it over 540km from its 12-litre tank

with 1.9-litre fuel reserve. So far my top speed with my R15 is 146kph hoping for more but I guess I have to upgrade my bike from R15 to my dream bike R6 For now, I’m loving my R15.

MNM: Are you adventurous or dull?Fatz Seva: (laughs) Really? my classmates from elementary till college probably know how adventurous I was. Well, I am an Adventurous kid. I love biking, swimming, but I always sneak around just to play with my neighbors, swim to the nearest lake, haha. my grandmother is really strict but she is one of the sweetest person ever, she’ll be telling me “kuning! MNM: Do you believe in love at first sight?Fatz Seva: (Puzzled) I don’t really know, I think before you could possibly love a person you have to know them well, Nobody did fell for somebody’s attitude at first encounter right? I mean, how could you possibly love a person at first sight when you don’t even know them at all? I think the right scenario or term for this would be “I saw her, I met her, I spent days talking with her and get to know her, I fell in love with her.” (Am I a Love Guru or what? Helmets perhaps ang number one prioritized safety gear needed in riding our motorcycles and that the other mentioned gears you can go without when riding your bikes wherever and whenever. But we highly recommend wearing all safety gears possible, for you will never know when an accident might happen and the worse thing is you not being prepared.

Safety gears are available almost everywhere like the malls, shops, online shopping, and even at the street gutters. Business boomed so drastically that many riders themselves entered in the industry of motorcycle gears and apparels. A much affordable way of getting yourselves the much needed motorcycle and rider needs. It not only offers diverse products for it also caters free delivery.

Every rider knows how much one must invest on safety. Dapat makarating sa pupuntahan ng maayos at makauwi din ng maayos. We need protective gears for our daily rides at ito ang helmet, gloves, knee/shin gaurds, and ride jackets (with padded material) malamang naman siguro nakasapatos din dapat kapag nagmommotor diba?

MNM: Can you tell us more about Overdose Motoproducts?Mark OD: It started when I first rode a bike way back in 2008 and then I couldn’t find an affordable and decent items for riding so I decided with my background in purchasing in manufacturing to make my own product line which my original group Xplorer Philippines started buying and then later on people from other groups started buying the products also. So slowly it grew into an actual shop.

MNM: How many years have you been operating in business?Mark OD: if we’re looking at from the very start in 2008 until now so that’s around 6 years pero we became an actual shop mga around 3 years.

MNM: What are the inspirations for building this business?Mark OD: well, I have a passion for riding motorcycles talaga, uhm... and I appreciate different types from scooters to underbones to 2 strokes, 4 strokes, bigbikes and cruisers.... because of that when I ride that’s the time na nakaka-isip ako ng bagong items to manufacture para mai-offer sa mga motorcycle riders

MNM: How many bikes do you own?Mark OD: As of now I have 2 scooters but before I use to have big bikes pero after yung accident ko 2 years ago medyo lay lo na muna ako sa pag ride ng big bikes.

MNM: What are the products available here at Overdose Motoproducts?Mark OD: Generally speaking, we have jackets, pants, different kinds of bags including moto boxes, accessories like the balaclavas or known as bonnets, gloves, shoes and even bike locks and some of that stuffs that you can’t even think na meron sa motor like things you put into your tires para hindi siya ma-flat. Mostly 50% of the products you see in the shop is from us exclusively and then the other products are from suppliers who ask us to distribute it for them.

MNM: Do you have other branches?Mark OD: Well, Quezon City is the main branch, and the others are more of distributors so basically we’ve openned ourselves to distributorship so people who are interested can set a meeting with me and I can discuss with them how they could make their passion also their business. As they say, if your hobby is your work then its not really work.

MNM: How about frachising, are you open to it?Mark OD: Yah, but not the very complicated sense of the franchise which has a lot of requirements and a lot of quotas, wala masyadong ganun... dito very simple and actually enjoyable for most of the distributors that I have. I think right now I have around 20 active distributors and 40 distributors all in all nationwide.

MNM: How do you promote your products?Mark OD: I started online via website forums for motorcycle riders and now of course the popular social media like facebook so I dedicate a lot of time actually in posting and showing people of all our products. The rest is by word of mouth because we don’t actually have products in malls and we don’t have commercials that we placed but through word of mouth somebody buys our products and they’re happy with it and contented... they then tell it to their friends.

“Overdose Motoproducts is value for your money. We are not the cheapest but we are not also expensive, so value

for your money means you are getting more than what you’ve

bargained for...“

MNM: What are the differences of your products compared to the branded ones?Mark OD: What we really offer here in Overdose Motoproducts is value for your money. We are not the cheapest but we are not also expensive, so value for your money means you are getting more than what you’ve bargained for... meaning, if you compare us to other brands of the same price definitely mas maganda yung offer namin, so you’re paying less yet you’re getting more and that’s the real essence of value for your money.

MNM: Do you have any message for all the Siklowistas out there?Mark OD: “Like I said, your passion or your hobby can be your source of income so if you’re interested in spreading more good products to other riders, hindi naman po tayo mapapahiya sa mga produkto na inooffer natin. Set a meeting with me and earn while enjoying your work.”

So Siklowistas, anu pa ang hinihintay niyo? Come visit Mark sa kanyang shop and also look for his products online. We promise you that all his products are of good quality and his service is top notched!

ROADRAGE!!!

Featured Articles

By: Kendrick Ross

Radio stations and music seems to lighten up your mood for a moment until another freakin rider zoom pass by the gaps and dislodges your side mirrors with only a wave of their hand for apology. I can’t blame drivers for blowing their tops in such tragic traffic situations.

I admit, I myself have road rage in me every time I hold onto a car steering wheel as compared to riding my bike. This maybe because when riding our bikes we escape the angry road conditions where car drivers are left trapped into. This exemplifies freedom when riding motorcycles, keeping us away from such road rage conditions and bringing us smiles as we see the traffic that we leave behind.

Unlike car drivers who tend to be selfish in traffic spaces, we riders politely give way to our fellow riders and offer a nod of thanks in every gesture.

We seem to lose human compassion when we find ourselves in traffic situations and we feel everyone on the roads are jerks, who should not have been given driver’s licenses. Loud horns show frustration and if they were bullets then a lot of dead bodies will be filling the streets. Middle fingers are perhaps the most used finger in traffic and that the index finger plays second for we tend to clean our noses and teeth while on a stand still. How difficult it is to be calm while driving our four wheels, but hey think of the bright side and that is keeping your mind busy by thinking of the places and stories you can share with your love ones when you get home.

Even the happiest people turns all red in temper when they find themselves in Metro Manila Traffic. The bumper to bumper madness and the endless motorcycles passing by inches from your car’s shiny paint make you swear inside your car. It doesn’t end there though, cause you’ll find yourself controlling your anger the moment jeepneys and buses starts turning the busy roads into parking lots.

Let go of the negative vibes and smile while driving your car or sing with the radio for it helps. But the best suggestion to get rid of road rage is to get your self a motorcycle and experience the fun even in bad traffic situations. Learn to ride and you’ll see the true meaning of life and that is freedom from anger and rage every time you twist that throttle.

Happy riding Siklowistas. M

From Riders Perspectives

By: Reese Estorninos

Race sports have been there for ages and that it always awakens our competitive spirits every time we watch the F1 and MotoGP races on TV. The only race I think that doesn’t tickle my fancy are the horse races hehehe… Maybe gambling is not my interest after all.

The blood pumping excitement every time the red lights starts blinking and having to watch burn tire smoke left behind by those powerful race machines. It feels like being ahead of everyone makes you better than the rest and that being second is never an option. The question is, where can we find that same adrenalin feeling if we don’t have the resources to get our buts in or on road rockets we see in car and bike races on TV?

Why is it so addicting to be at speeds that make our adrenalin rush? Is this because the fear for our lives makes us feel more alive? Whatever our body says it surely is a

great feeling going fast like the flash.

Where? The busy roads of Metro Manila where else. I’m not promoting deadly undisciplined riding on the streets, I am just stating here the norms.

Nope, not all drivers or riders like to enter organized drag races or track competitions for it entails money just to play. We want something for free that guarantees the same level of adrenalin rush and fear factors. That exciting feeling you get, that you may not make it alive if you find yourself in human error situations.

That Green light says it all. We wait for the lights to turn green to force out instant races from this go to the next traffic light. Everyone in front seems to be on it as well as engines revs up in anticipation. Admit it this happens and is hard to resist. Even the delivery guys from food

chains join in the fray and the traffic enforcer seems to be like the flag guy.

Missing are the umbrella girls and the pit stops, the noisy crowd is present due to the busy commuters. The TV crew is all in the head and the commentators speaking inside the nutshell. The expensive champagne imagined spilled all over as you reach the next stoplight first. The hugs and cheers reserved inside your head. What a fun feeling it is but not to be encouraged.

Whatever feeling we get through these mini races we find on the streets, it surely makes every riding moment worthwhile… be careful though and don’t force it.

Keep safe don’t race on the streets even how irresistible it gets.

Mr. Andrew Ferrer belongs to a group of Pinoys abroad who are into motorcycles and they play major roles in the formed clubs where they are. Andrew is a good friend of mine who migrated to the states (Los Angeles) when he was in his teens. He now has a good life like most Pinoys in L.A. and enjoys every bit of the “Land of opportunity” the states offers. Like most Pinoys here and abroad, “Barkadahan” and “Pakikisama” are present. Their barkada is into Sport Bikes and they love the long paved roads of the states.

No one can ever deny that Filipinos are all around the globe and making waves wherever they are. We can be pilots of the world’s largest commercial airlines, CEOs of large multinational companies, or well-known sport

athletes. Whatever we do in our own field of expertise we Pinoys will always be good at it.

As weekend riders, they roll on the streets with fast bikes that catch everyone’s attention. Their bikes are mostly superbikes that reel out power and style. The long road of the States sure is freedom for Riders especially on a sunny state of LA where you can ride in style under the sun.

We can only wish to have long paved roads to satify our road freedom like what the States can offer, and Pinoys there sure are lucky.

But then again, there’s no place like home.

A Brighter Milieu Behind Iron Gates

By: PSOI Robert A. Veneracion; Chief Operation Officer Bureau of Corrections

“Confinement is of no use without inculcation of knowledge and application of basic on-hand skills”. Inmates at MSC are given equal chance to become skilled workers through different activities and job opportunities so that they become an asset upon release rather than become a saddle to the society.”

The invasion of motorcycles on the road is not a far-fetched scenario. It’s common nowadays that illegal motorcycle riders are rampant and the seemingly alarming crime and accident cases involving motorcycle riders show that the motorcycle industry is definitely fast-paced. The motorcycle is becoming one of the largest forms of transportation in Asian countries, now soaring popularity worldwide because of its efficiency; but also mainly because it’seasy to use. With a fast growing market of varied stakeholders, neophytes, and enthusiasts in the field of racing, motorcycling is making itself a very lucrative business industry in the Philippines today.

There are around 200 million motorcycles in use worldwide or about 33 motorcycles per 1000 people as estimated. These include mopeds, motor scooters, motorized bicycles, and other powered two and three-wheelers. These are close numbers compared to around 590 million cars, or about 91 per 1000 people.A motorcycle (also called a motorbike, bike or cycle) is a single track, two wheeled vehicle for easy transportation. To name a few of its advantages: motorcycles are widely used because of its mobility and its fuel efficiency; affordable form of motorized transport; they utilize fewer resources compared to cars and other means of transportation; they are environment friendly; require less maintenance and are covered by warranties. Each design varies depending on its use such as long distance travel, navigating congested urban traffic, cruising sport and racing on off-road conditions.

Big players in the motorcycle industry today are competing as to how the market would continue to proliferate despite the underlying disadvantage regarding its practicability and general safety concerns. However, motorcycle parts manufacturers still play a significant role in keeping the industry at its flame. These parts would include motorcycle chains, sprockets, brake shoes and other spare parts. These are essential in the construction and production of quality and reliable motorcycles and the important role of manufacturers are to take into consideration the important factors in choosing appropriate parts from different companies for the production process and the assembly line.

It would take considerable time and a series of carefully studied steps before a quality brand emerges and becomes ready for display in the showroom. On the other hand, the workers in the assembly line and quality checking area are responsible if the product is manufactured properly and credible to be use.

Various features and accessories maybe attached to a motorcycle either in the factory or after-market. These accessories are selected by the owner to enhance the motorcycle’s appearance, safety, performance or comfort and may include anything from mobile electronics to sidecars and trailers.

At this stage the inmates at Medium Security Compound (MSC) in New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa are now endowed with the skills to assemble and enhance motorcycle features. The workers are responsible in putting the

motorcycle together and building the sub-assemblies like wiring harnesses and engines. However, it’s a wrong notion that only workers from these gigantic motorcycle companies like KAWASAKI and HONDA are the ones capable and skilled in the motorcycle assembly, what is not known to the open is the fact that inmates from MSC are also equipped with the same skills and are capable enough to handle services that the skilled Kawasaki or Honda mechanics have to offer.

MSC has 6,529 total inmate population. The Bureau is tasked to ensure the rehabilitation of inmates through its various livelihood programs maximizing the talents and skills of inmates and likewise ensuring that these programs are properly implemented and disseminated among them.

Rehabilitation can be implemented in various forms. It can be facilitated by improving the inmates’ academic and job skills. Through these programs, the inmates obtain basic skills that would be beneficial to them when they return to the mainstream of society.

As part of MSC’s auto-mechanics training, inmates had undergone training that enabled them to maximize their skills and on hand experiences in order to become workers of s operating industries like SAMSUNG and PILCO.

Another concrete example of the inmates showcasing their skills is in motorcycle assembly. Who would have thought that only motorcycle dealers have the capacity or authority to showcase such fabulous motorcycle, here at the MSC? The inmates are at par when it comes to the skills in putting the motorcycle together with the same look as the one displayed in the different company’s showroom across the country. All of these taken into consideration, I myself had my motorcycle CB 110 remodeled inside the camp. The outcome is as smooth as the one being displayed in elite showrooms.

Motorcycle companies could possibly go a run for their money should there be more equal opportunities for these inmates to showcase their talents. Though limited to the prison

perimeters, these inmates have showed their will to acquire new skills that could benefit them come the time they are released back to society.

This feat also proves that the transformation of the national offenders through this response is quietly attainable and a brighter milieu is not anymore an elusive dream for this fellow behind iron gates.

Rider Story

This picture with my motorcycle was taken at Milagros, Masbate. This is one of my favorite picture of us. Parang nangungusap lang kaming dalawa ng aking kabayong bakal sa isang mala New Zealand na view ng mga burol at rancho ng Milagros. It is also important to have a relationship with your motorcycle, ikaw bilang amo at sya bilang iyong kabayo. Dinadala ka sa mga lugar na gusto mong puntahan, kaya you have to take care and properly mentain it. Di biro ang byahe namin papuntang Masbate from Manila, almost 12hrs of ride from

Manila to Pilar, Sorsogon.

The following day, time for us to say goodbye sa Masbate. Then a side trip para magpapicture sa Mt. Mayon ng Albay since di namin ito nagawa the first time we’ve been bicolandia ng nag Catanduanes kami before, due to bad weather condition. Late night na ng makarating kami ng Manila. Tumakbo kami ng 1500 kilometers in that ride. It was a perfect moment namin yun sa Masbate with my MC.

I started to learn how to ride a motorcycle when I was 10 years old. Since then nahilig na talaga ako sa pagmomotor. Marami-rami na rin akong naging rides, main land Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. I also joined some motorcycle clubs and participated in an endurance ride challenge. For me riding a motorcycle brings excitement and a form of relaxation.

The New Riders of JusticeA message to all riding-in tandem criminals, beware.Source: Philippine Daily Inquirer

The days of fear while walking the side streets and roads will be gone and infamous criminals that are terrorizing the Metro and nearby provinces will be laughing no more. This is how Quezon Province Police envisions safer and more care-free roads as they spearhead project “Blue Hawks” – big bike toting rides as a measure to counter motorcycle-riding criminals.

Project “Blue Hawks” is composed of 20 elite policemen, all who graduated from an intricate and painstaking 45-day motorcycle course training on April of this year. The group is heavily armed and equipped with mobile phones and high-powered handheld radios for efficient handling of operations and while

monitoring the entire Maharlika Highway and underlying roads to prevent motorcycle riding criminals from doing their misdeeds. Senior Superintendent Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Quezon’s police chief, shared that the unit will operate in a “buddy-buddy” system, and appealed to all local governments in the province to donate more high powered motorcycles for the unit’s disposal. The operations of the group, if carried out successfully, could be a driving force for all local governments in the Philippines to follow suit and to combat the turmoil caused by motorcycle riding criminals.

Now riders-in-tandem will have a taste of their own medicine.

It is obvious for some who really is to blame in a certain situation. Accidents do happen and because of misconception who’s to blame, killings happens. The Philippine laws enforcers really cannot accommodate exact explanation of who is to blame. Seldom we stand on the side of the law and fight for the rights of the person who is supposed to be innocent and not directly involve. Here is what Siklowistas non-riders speak of.

Self Defense 101

Learning self-defense is perhaps the best thing you can do to help yourself in troubled times and being calm is also a factor.

We are fortunate enough to have Punong Lakan Nicolas to be our Rider Self Defense 101 contributor. He will be teaching us basic self-defense strategies and skills to help us get out of harms way and keep us safe.

Always put in mind that the proper defense is offense.

We are men on iron horses and that being a hero is our middle name. Crime is now on an alarming rate and our countrymen is falling one by one to these bad elements. The best solution not to be victimized is by arming ourselves with the right knowledge and attitude towards such unavoidable incidents. If only CCTV cameras can be used to deter crime as it happens then we won’t be worrying much right?

Filipino Martial-Arts

Interview:MNM: How long have you been a Rider?Punong Lakan: I have been a rider for 30 years

MNM: How long have you been into Philippine Martial Arts?Punong Lakan: Almost 3 decades of teaching and promoting the Filipino Martial Arts.

MNM: What made you love the Filipino Martial Arts (FMA)?Punong Lakan: Nagustuhan ko ang Filipino Martial Arts because of the discipline and second it help promote our culture and our self defense training.

MNM: What are your inspirations in doing FMA?Punong Lakan: My inspiration is our Filipino community, so that they’ll put Arnis at heart, kasi maraming mga oriental martial arts na nakakalimutan yung sariling atin.

MNM: Can you tell us about the history of FMA?Punong Lakan: The FMA started way back before Lapu-Lapu pa, pero usually ang tawag nila kasi dun mga Kali Escrima, dipa nila alam ang FMA basta mag-ispadahan lang sila yun lang. But in this new generation like nung pumasok ang mga 1990 na then 2000 dun na na-build up yung FMA all over the world.

MNM: What are the different types of FMA?Punong Lakan: The different types of FMA are Sikaran, Dumog, Bangkaw, at Daga sa daga (Knife defense) yun ang mga FMA natin.

MNM: What are the different systems of our martial arts?Punong Lakan: Ang different systems ng Arnis ay mga “Dose Pares”, “Pangasinan style”, Bicol Arnis, Bulacan, Balintawak, at maraming klase at kung ilan yung dialect natin ganun din karami ang Arnis natin.

MNM: Is Arnis our national sport?Punong Lakan: Yes, Arnis is our National Sport according to Republic Act 9815 and ang author nito ay si Hon. Miguel Zuburi.

MNM: San na po ba nakarating ang Arnis na martial arts natin? Punong Lakan: World wide na ang Arnis like Europe, Germany, Switzerland, USA, Italy, Middle East, and also Asia.

MNM: How do you promote FMA?Punong Lakan: I promote it here in my own gym, doing events, tournaments, FMA Hall of Fame, in the movies, in television, and of course I train the MMDA & the PNP.

MNM: How long does a martial arts session usually take?Punong Lakan: If you like to learn the basics of the arts 1 month is okay, but if you want the real deeper meaning of the art… of course for life mag-aaral ka and it’s like riding motorcycles you don’t just ride in one day but you ride forever to become a good martial artist.

MNM: What can you say to Riders as a Rider yourself and as an Arnisador?Punong Lakan: “Well, FMA and Riding is the same for you need focus, discipline, balancing and of course preservation of life. Kasi yun ang pinaka-importante at isang pagkakamali mo lang sa martial arts ay pwede kang maka-aksidente ng tao at isang pagkakamali mo lang sa pagmomotor ay pwede ka ring mamatay which is the same principle. The art of the stick is the art of the hand and the arnis and the stick is one, like the rider… for the rider and the bike is one.”
