Reports

General Manager’s Report

2011 was a year of opportunities and challenges for Motorcycling Queensland. MQ successfully tendered to become the operator of a trail bike park at Wyaralong, south west of Brisbane. The continuing effects of the GFC were still evident in lower licence numbers, low retail bike sales, particularly in the off-road sector and lower participation at many events, however MQ was able to trade steadily through the year. Administration MQ continues to operate from our freehold offices in Gordon Street, Ipswich and both our tenants in this building have continued their leases. Again, MQ’s licence numbers decreased slightly from last year’s total of 7000 and our overall licence numbers continue at around 6600. This decrease was consistent across every state in Australia. With our licence numbers slightly declining through the year, individual event numbers were also facing some difficulties. The summer of floods in southern and central Queensland and the cyclone which affected the northern regions put many of our events behind schedule. Although eight rounds of the Sunshine State Motocross Series went ahead, rider numbers were slightly down and the ThunderX and SEQ Junior motocross series were cut back to three rounds each. Regional events also suffered throughout a difficult year. There were some changes in Motorcycling Queensland’s staff members and positions in 2011, with the staff members being: - Lindsay Granger General Manager - Kim Rowcliffe Operations Manager - Michael Brown Events Officer - Kylie Priday Finance Officer/ PA to the General Manager - Courtney Wingfield Licensing Officer - Rachelle Houterman Administration Officer In early 2012, MQ employed Daniel Rowe as Licensing Officer to take over from Courtney Wingfield, who will step into the position of Finance Officer when Kylie Priday goes on maternity leave in middle of the year. The Executive has continued unchanged since the 2011 AGM under the Presidency of Derek Rumble. During this time the Executive has undertaken an extensive consultation with clubs prior to drafting a new Constitution which is the subject of a postal ballot at the 2012 AGM. Our subcommittees continued their valuable work throughout the year. The ‘face-to-face’ meeting of all subcommittees continued in 2011 and is now a regular opportunity for subcommittee members to meet in person each year .The 2011 Zone meetings were held in Rockhampton and Cairns in November and both meetings included elections for the Zone Committees in North and Central Queensland as well as the election of the Central Queensland members of various Motorcycling Queensland Subcommittees. In order to keep step with the introduction of staggered elections for the MQ Executive and Subcommittees, the election of North Queensland’s Subcommittee delegates will occur in 2012.

Finance The 2011 Financial Report for the overall entity of Motorcycling Queensland and its wholly owned subsidiaries, MQ Holdings and Queensland Moto Holdings shows a net loss of $19,209 for the year. This is a modest loss on a turnover of $2,351,796 and is principally due to reduced licence numbers and an increased expenditure to set up the Queensland Moto Park at Wyaralong. Although there were some increased income areas in 2011 such as permits, rent and leases, these were offset by lower income from licences and sponsorship. In the areas of expenditure, savings on committee costs, insurance and promotions were balanced by higher costs for wages, repairs and maintenance and officials training courses. Although MQ did not increase fees in 2011, a revised set of fees and charges has been developed for 2012. Despite this increase, MQ’s fees remain amongst the lowest of the states. On the Balance Sheet of the entire MQ entity, the value of our assets, including land and buildings is $3,127,303. The annual grant which Motorcycling Queensland receives under the Sport and Recreation Organisational Development program from the Queensland Government showed a CPI increase to $155,000. Motorcycling Queensland thanks the then Minister for Sport, Phil Reeves, for this assistance. MQ continued its loans to clubs throughout 2011. MQ maintained its loan of $80,000 to Queensland Moto Holdings to support the work of the Whitsunday Moto Sports Club to get its Supermoto track at Proserpine under construction, and this track was opened in December 2011. Other loans were maintained for the Sunshine Coast Motorcycle Club and the Mike Hatcher Junior Motorcycle Club. A new loan was established for the Rockhampton and District Motocross Club to assist with their track rebuilding after it was ruined in the January floods. Existing loans were finalised by the North Brisbane, Motorcycle Sportsmen and Townsville Motorcycle Clubs. Sport Development Motorcycling Queensland’s activities and commitment to the areas of coaching and officials training are detailed in the separate reports of the Coaching Committee and the Officials Review board. These committees provide an excellent resource for the sport and have continued to advance the development of our coaches, our riders and our event officials. Throughout 2011, Officials training courses were run at Cairns, Gladstone, Nambour, Mackay, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Dalby, Toowoomba, Airlie Beach, Townsville, Mount Isa, Brisbane and Chinchilla. Level One Coaching Courses were conducted at Ipswich, Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton and the Sunshine Coast. In 2011 MQ did not conduct any of its Club Development and Education Seminars, however seminars are planned to continue in 2012. An Enduro Forum was conducted for riders, officials and other stakeholders. This forum was conducted at the Kedron-Wavell Services Club and attracted 38 participants. The forum provided the Queensland Enduro Subcommittee with a wealth of knowledge to assist their future planning. Our major promotional activities continued through 2011 with a display stand at the National 4x4 and Outdoors Show at the Brisbane RNA Grounds, the launch of Queensland Moto Park at Wyaralong and staff attendance at the Darling Downs Trail Ride Series.

Page 9: Motorcycling Queensland 2011 Annual Report

Motorcycling Queensland 2011 Annual Report

The Motorcycling Queensland Awards Night was held for the first time at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and this proved to be our best venue to date. It continued to provide the recognition for our best in all aspects of the sport, including riders, coaches, officials and clubs. MQ is now contracted under a 20 year lease as the operator of Queensland Moto Park, a commercial off-road motorcycle park at Wyaralong, near Boonah. MQ was announced as the successful tenderer in early 2011 and the park was officially opened by the Minister for Sport, Phil Reeves on 18 December 2011. The project is being overseen by the South East Queensland Council of Mayors with funding from most SEQ Councils and the Queensland Government. MQ is investing approximately $800,000 in the establishment of the project, sourced from our own funds and a loan from Motorcycling Australia. Park attendance figures from the first three months of operation reveal average attendances of approximately 600 riders per week and a steady trading pattern. In conclusion I would like to thank the members of the MQ staff, the Council, the Subcommittees and the Executive for their dedication, passion and support for motorcycle sport and recreation in Queensland.

Officials Review Board (ORB) Report

The Motorcycling Queensland Officials Review Board (ORB) meets on a monthly basis throughout the year, and continued to do so during 2011. The ORB is charged with many responsibilities, including determining upgrades for officials’ accreditations, recommending applicants for upgrade to level 4 accreditation, assisting with the planning of officials Training Seminars, implementing action resulting from Stewards Reports and correspondence on issues involving officials and recommending new strategies for the improvement of our officials and volunteers roles. The ORB for 2011 consisted of Barry Newton, Joanne Astrop, Christine Jung, Weldon Jung and Terry Wellsteed, each of whom brings a vast array of knowledge to the committee. Again the ORB relies on the input from Bud Markley, Central Queensland delegate, and Mark Franzmann, North Queensland delegate. In 2006 the ORB introduced the “ORB Official of the Month” award, and this has continued in 2011. However, we saw a decline in the number of nominations. We would encourage our Stewards to use the “Official of the Year awards” section on their reports to nominate officials who perform in an outstanding and professional manner. A minor offence and issues database has been developed to help track minor issues that occur on a regular basis. Two issues that show up are unlicensed or incorrectly licensed officials and one meeting licences issued to junior riders without riders having or showing their junior log books. Stewards Reports were generally good, but some stewards still fail to handle issues on the day of the event and include all details in their Stewards Report, expecting the issue can be dealt with by someone else. 38 applications for licences upgrades have been considered and it is pleasing to see this. There is a concern however about the long time taken for MA to upgrade or renew level 4 applications that have been endorsed by the ORB. For 2012 an “official’s pathway document” will be produced to outline the requirements for officials to upgrade their Licences. We ran 42 Officials Training Seminars throughout the state for a total of 454 attendees, and in 2011 more mid-week seminars were introduced.

Page 10: Motorcycling Queensland 2011 Annual Report

Motorcycling Queensland 2011 Annual Report

The ORB would like to thank all our presenters, as well as Kim Rowcliffe (MQ Operations Manager) and Peter Bell (Officials Training Coordinator) on their outstanding work all year. Again we believe our seminars are the best in Australia. Queensland officials act in senior roles in national and international events in Australia. Event audits have been conducted in Motocross, Road Racing and Enduro in 2011and we would like to thank all officials for their help and co-operation with our Auditors. The ORB would like to thank all officials and volunteers for the input into Motorcycling in Queensland. I would like to thank my fellow members of the ORB; Joanne, Weldon, Christine and Barry for their work, as well as MQ’s General Manager, Lindsay Granger and all the MQ staff for their guidance. Finally I would like to acknowledge our hard working new MQ Events Officer - Michael Brown for his outstanding work and assistance all year. On Behalf of the ORB Terry Wellsteed- chairperson

Coaching Committee Report

The Motorcycling Queensland Coaching Committee continues to meet on a regular basis to plan and organise Motorcycling Queensland’s Coaching activity. One of our primary responsibilities are to offer advice to the Motorcycling Queensland’s Executive and Motorcycling Australia’s Coaching Commission on ‘motorcycle coaching issues’. The Committee takes this responsibility seriously and we aim to continue to improve the coaching systems within our sport. The Junior Coaching and Kick Start Programs have been with us for some time now, and speaking broadly, the committee believes these systems to be a success. There continues to be the need to look at ways of improving the system, however we believe the concept of compulsory (necessary) coaching for juniors is here to stay. The Coaching Committee is proud of our record in providing Queenslanders with opportunities to obtain coaching licences and accreditation. In 2011 we conducted four (4) courses; two in Ipswich and one each in Sunshine Coast and Townsville for a total of 29 attendees. In Queensland we are lucky to have such skillful and knowledgeable presenters of the Coaching Course in the form of Dave Fuller, Casey Rice, Leo Cash and Tania Millard – a big thank-you to each for their efforts in training our new and aspiring coaches. Unfortunately we were not able to roll out any Refresher Coaching Courses in 2011, and this is a situation we aim to rectify in 2012. In 2011 the Coaching Committee once again conducted our U21s Elite Training Camp Program. In a different pattern from previous years however, our U21s First Timer Camp and U21s Refresher Camps ran concurrently at the same venue which proved to be successful. I am pleased to report that attendees at the camp were outstanding and fully justified their selection at these camps. Thanks must go to my fellow Camp Presenters - Chris Urquhart, Dave Fuller, Annalise Chester and Jemma Wilson.

Jason Rice was acknowledged with the Services to Coaching Award at the 2011 Motorcycling Queensland Awards Night, whilst Barry Surawski was presented with the Coach of the Year award – congratulations to both who have been massive contributors to the coaching system in Queensland over a long period of time. Many thanks to those who have served on the Coaching Committee over the past 12 months, namely John Urquhart, Bryan Tricklebank, Dave Fuller and Tania Millard, and thanks also to the support offered by the Motorcycling Queensland office, in particular Kim Rowcliffe. Rodney Jenner – Chairman

Dirt Track Sub-Committee Report

The past year has seen the Dirt Track discipline hold steady in Queensland. The shortage of racing venues is still the most significant factor for the discipline. The 2011 Queensland Dirt Track was held over Easter as a three day event at two different venues, Lang Park in Townsville & Dray Park in Proserpine. Feedback from competitors was positive on the format of the event being held at the two tracks. The 2011 Queensland Long Track Championships were also held up north at Lang Park in Townsville. Both championships offered some excellent competitive, skilful & safe racing on display. Matt Kuhne was invited to assist the subcommittee with the selection of the inaugural Matt Kuhne Perseverance Award which saw Dirt Track clubs nominate Junior members from the 65cc age group with Max Whale from the North Brisbane Junior Motorcyle Club the inaugural winner. The committee would like to thank the Kuhne Family for their support. The strong support and commitment by the Clubs shown in 2011 is encouraging for the continued growth of the discipline. Anne Morato

Enduro Sub-Committee Report

The 2011 Queensland Enduro season turned out to be a memorable one on many levels. The QESC would like to thank everyone for each part of their involvement, whether it was organising events, officiating, working, helping out or racing, thank you for being involved in Enduro. Competitors travelled to Mt Morgan near Rockhampton for the QLD 2-Day Enduro Championships which was being run by Sordid Promotions. The race for Day 1 proved to be a challenging course, however with soaring temperatures and the dry environment at the time, the race was eventually red flagged as a looming bushfire started to take hold. As the race hadn’t run its course, it was impossible to declare QLD champions, so for 2012 QLD rankings were carried over from 2010. QESC congratulates Sordid and all involved, who worked through what turned out to be a difficult weekend. There have been many changes in the QLD Enduro scene since the dismissal of the past committee. With this change it became important that new direction must originate form a forum. The date for the Enduro forum was move forward to assist in future planning for a new committee and was a very welcome contribution. For 2012 the use of electronic timing through MyLaps became reality. This will change the Enduro scene in QLD considerably as timing issues have been

Page 12: Motorcycling Queensland 2011 Annual Report

Motorcycling Queensland 2011 Annual Report

an issue for the past decade. The QESC would publicly like to thanks all people who have been involved in making this happen. The A4DE was held in Mackay by the Gum Valley Club and it proved to be an event that put QLD Enduro back on the map again since the running of the 4 day at Tansey in 1996. The event spoke for itself with great organisation, good spectating, fantastic final moto and good presentation evening. On a State level the QLD Senior and Junior Team pulled together well as a team and placed 2nd and 1st respectively. QESC would like to thank MQ for their on-going financial assistance for our efforts at each 4 day. Without this help team success would be much more difficult. From the 4 day, QLD was lucky to have 2 riders selected in the Australian 6 Day team to travel to Finland. Kirk Hutton was posting some solid times but sustained a heavy crash that took him out of the race. Jemma Wilson who is also becoming a standard in the Australian women’s team had a successful event. Her goal for 2012 to ride in the World Enduro Championships will only make her stronger again and we wish her the best on these endeavours. As a committee in 2012 we had 2 committee members resign and finish up their efforts for QLD Enduro. Donna Lalonde helped to bring the QESC to a whole new level of professionalism and brought our sport to the modern day. Again many thanks for your efforts Donna. Michael Oliver also finished his service to QESC in 2012. Michael’s enthusiasm and knowledge for motorcycling will be missed. Many thanks Michael. With all the changes happening within QLD Enduro other issues will always arise. The implementation of a timing system throughout the Enduro community, communication to riders / public, sponsor value, rider value, changes to the expectations of how events run, increased professionalism and systems to help run our discipline are all things that we are consistently working towards. We are looking forward to Enduro clubs becoming more involved with the running of events and working with these clubs to make their goal happen. In the end, riding a bike in the bush is great fun and for 2012 we’re looking to have even more! See you out there. Brad Peterson Chairman QESC

Historic Sub-Committee Report

Motocross continues to be the success story of the Historic disciplines. Regular meetings are well subscribed. The major rewrite of the regulations governing the sport is considered a great success. Historic Road Racing continues in a low profile mode in Queensland. There is now only one open historic meeting annually; the “BIG CHILL” held at Stanthorpe in midwinter each year! This meeting continues to be a social and financial success but will never attract a significant interstate entry. Motorcycle Sportsmen continue to offer participation for classics at their modern meetings but a successful formula to attract a significant entry remains elusive. There is little activity in Historic Dirt Track and Trials. At the organisational level the Historic Subcommittee had a difficult year. Annual elections threw up a disparate, geographically separated group with little previous contact. It proved impossible for the members of the subcommittee to meet on any regular basis.

Page 13: Motorcycling Queensland 2011 Annual Report

Motorcycling Queensland 2011 Annual Report

At the national level log books remain a major barrier to new entrants to the sport. There is a desperate need for full documentation, by model, of permitted modifications and components on the MA web site. Fraser McMillan

Junior Sub-Committee Report

The Junior Subcommittee represents all junior motorcycle sport disciplines and over the last 12 months we have been organising a range of the junior development activities, assessing junior MX grading and planning next year’s activities as well as the South East Queensland Junior MX Series. In early 2011 the subcommittee and the wider motorcycle community was devastated by the untimely passing of Mr. Steve Dinsdale. At the time Steve had only just joined the subcommittee we were all looking forward to his contribution to the subcommittee. The decision to run a Junior Development Fund raffle in conjunction with Licence applications and renewals in 2011 was a great success, with Ron Draper drawn as the inaugural winner of this raffle at the 2011 MQ Awards Night. The raising of additional funds for injection into the Junior Development Fund (JDF) benefits all subcommittees as it increases the available pool of funds that subcommittees can apply for. Thank-you to everyone who purchased tickets in 2011 and to the Motorcycling Queensland staff for administering this process. I am pleased to advise that the JDF will again run in 2012 with a slightly updated formula (more winners). I’d encourage anyone who is able to, to purchase raffle tickets in 2012. All but one of the approved activities from the 2011 JFD were run and reports are that those that did run were very successful, with subcommittees keen to once again apply for funding in 2012. The Junior Sub Committee once again had the unenviable job of selecting the 2011 Junior Achiever of the Year. Congratulations to the following riders who were selected as finalists from each of their individual disciplines:

Zaine Kennedy (Speedway)

Lachlan Hannam (Moto-Trials)

Peter-Daniel Allan (Enduro)

Lauren Jones (Womens)

Hunter Lawrence (Motocross)

Broc Pearson (Dirt Track)

Jack Miller (Road Race)

Further congratulations to Hunter Lawrence who was chosen as the 2011 winner.

Unfortunately our long serving North Queensland delegate - Kelly Evans recently resigned from the subcommittee. Her hard work and knowledge will be greatly missed.

Special mention to fellow subcommittee member - Nathan Crawford who collected in excess of $8,000 in sponsorship for the 2011 South East Queensland Junior Motocross Series.

Many thanks to all those that served on the Junior subcommittee in 2011, we look forward to an even bigger 2012.

Motocross Sub-Committee Report

Queensland’s motocross events ranged from club days through to the Australian Championships and most of these have been successful and maintained steady growth for 2011.

Two rounds of the Australian Motocross Championships were run in Queensland last year at Toowoomba and Coolum. The meetings were very successful the tracks were in excellent condition. The Australian Supercross Championship round at Ipswich was successfully run however the promoter has announced that they are not continuing to promote this event in 2012. Australia selected a team of riders to compete in the Junior Motocross World Championships in Italy including Queenslanders Reece Rayner, Wilson Todd, Hunter Lawrence, Scott Mann and Mitchell Evans. The “2011 Honda Australian Junior Motocross Championships” was run at Murray Bridge in South Australia however no Queensland riders won a championship class. The “Yamaha Queensland Motocross Championship” was run under a successful new format at Coolum. Numbers were up on 2010 and the new format ran over four days. Jacob Wright and Hunter Lawrence were the outstanding Queensland riders at this event. The “Shell Advance Sunshine State Motocross Series” was run over the full eight rounds although flooding in South East Queensland caused the series schedule to be delayed. The “KTM Thunder X” series was run over three rounds at Kingaroy, Mundubbera and Jimboomba. The “Queensland Women’s Motocross Championship” featured both Junior and Senior classes in a single round championship at Coolum in April. . Queensland Motocross again would like to thank the sponsors who have been supporting us over the last few years. Our thanks as always need to go out to all event partners and the clubs promoting rounds for this and last year and their many volunteers who make these events a success .we look forward to working with each of you in 2012. As always special thanks go to all MQ office staff for their on-going support. The coordination of motocross in Queensland is only possible due to the work of the members of the Queensland Motocross Subcommittee; Karen Saul, Mal Watson, Mark Franzmann and Ian Kersnovske. Ian resigned in late 2011 and Nathan Crawford was nominated to fill this casual vacancy.

Moto Trials Sub-Committee Report

Firstly I would like to thank all those who have worked with me on the sub-committee during 2011, Andrew Carpenter, Scott Carpenter, Alex Norton and Jeff Richards. Also thanks to all the staff at Motorcycling Queensland again for giving 110%. Again this year we have seen Moto-trials continue to grow and this is evident by one new affiliated Trials club joining our ranks. I would like to welcome Central Queensland Trials Club, I assure them, that they have the full support of the sub-committee members. In 2011, Moto-Trials clubs of Queensland ran a total of 23 events, with the main focus being to run a friendly, safe and fair event to a very high standard and I am happy to say, that all were run with no issues or concerns arising throughout the year, thanks again to the Standard set by all the officials. Also in 2011, it was announced that Australia would, for the first time ever, be hosting two rounds of the FIM world championships. These events will be run in Maldon Victoria on the 26th and 27th May 2012. This event is going to be an excellent opportunity to showcase moto-trials at the highest level in Australia, which can only help the sport to grow and grow. From this came the opportunity for current senior MA officials to become FIM officials in order to run the event. In December Rowan Gibson and myself travelled to Bendigo to take part in the FIM training, which was an excellent event with both of us now holding FIM clerk of course and sporting steward Licences. Also part of running such an event is the need for volunteers, particularly observers and I would like to thank the 25 Queenslanders who have put their hands up to travel down to Maldon to take part in this history making event a success will mean that it is likely Australia will host this event again, which can only help our sport to grow. As part of the FIM event the sub-committee has arranged a bus trip to help provide an opportunity to as many people as possible to witness the world’s best in action and I must say, I had no problems filling the bus. We leave on Wednesday the 23th of May and Return to Brisbane on the 29th May. Lastly, was the opening of Queensland Moto Park at Wyaralong, it was great day and to see the trials bikes lined up on the front row when the flag was dropped alongside the motocross bikes was great. Well done to Lindsay and all the others that helped make this park a reality. Thanks again, to all that have supported me and the sport of Moto-Trials throughout 2011.

Road Racing Sub-Committee Report

The Queensland Road Race Sub Committee is made of members from a variety of locations including Mareeba - Mathew Weinert, Tim Hewitt from Townsville and three from SEQ: Tom Williams, Jared Peters and Leo Cash as Chairperson. Our meetings are conducted through the use of Skype to the two members in FNQ with the three SEQ members using the Motorcycle Sportsmen Club rooms in Albion. Submissions made for changes in 2011 included:

Requesting allowance for race secretaries to compete as long as there is a race secretary assistant who would not be competing in the same race.

Requesting that riders who are moving from junior to senior are eligible to be coached on a senior bike from 15 years and 9 months to allow them time to adjust to the larger capacity before competing on the day they turn 16.

Queensland 1-10 plates, the top ten riders in Queensland Road Racing

Grading riders who have turned senior for smaller capacity bikes only and maintaining a lower grading for the larger capacity until they gain more experience.

Challenges

Continual wet weather caused the abandonment of Pirelli Masters of Morgan Park meeting which included Gregg Hansford Trophy Race and the National BEARs Round

The distance from SEQ to FNQ and CQ race tracks has its challenges due not only to distance for riders to travel but also track availability and size which limits classes which are able to participate at different venues.

New venues

The completion of the Whitsunday Moto Sports Club in Proserpine, Central Queensland. Noteworthy Achievements

Jack Miller winning the IDM 125cc Championship in Germany, nominated and chosen as a finalist for Q-Sport Award as Junior Sportsperson of the year.

Road race clubs, The Motorcycle Sportsmen and Road Race Association of Townsville (RRAT) Voted No 1 and No 2 for the Club of the Year Awards at Motorcycling Queensland’s Awards Night.

The speedway subcommittee of 2011 would like thank all clubs involved over the last twelve months for their support and also all the hard working officials that give their time to make all meetings a great success. Without the clubs, officials and riders/passengers these successes would not be possible. All of our state titles were well supported with some great race meetings both in North and South Queensland. The loss of Gary Moon shook the speedway world and even though this happened a week before the Queensland sidecar titles, the meeting still went ahead successfully. The 2011 Junior under 16 125cc Championships was hosted by North Brisbane JMCC and this meeting was won by Max Fricke (Vic). In second place was Zaine Kennedy (Qld) and in third place was Brandon Coglan (Qld). This was a great meeting with all riders putting in a big effort. The 2011 350cc title was not able to take place due to insufficient entries. The riders who entered rode for the Dave Booth Memorial Shield with the winner being Max Fricke (Vic), with Dalton Nilsen (Qld) in second and Ellis Perks (Qld) in third. The Under 21 solo Championship was hosted by Ayr Motorcycle Club and this was another great meeting with a mixture of riders from the United Kingdom, New South Wales and Queensland. Kyle Howarth (UK) took first place, with Michael Penfold (NSW) in second and Tom Perry (UK) in third. The 2011 Open Solo Championship was hosted by North Brisbane Junior Motorcycle Club and this meeting was also well supported by riders from the United Kingdom and Queensland. This event was a great meeting with Josh Grajczonek (Qld) claiming the title. In second place was Josh Auty (UK) and Nick Morris (Qld) in third. This meeting is held late in the year so that all our Queensland riders who compete overseas throughout the winter can take part in their home State Championship. The 2011 Queensland Sidecar Championship was held at the Maryborough Sporting Car Club. This meeting was run well by the club and it is good to see a car club involved and supporting Speedway. Darrin Treloar (NSW) won this event, with Andrew Buchanan (NZ) in second with David Hagel in third place. This Championship was held with Gary Moon’s position remaining vacant throughout the heats as a mark of respect for the multi State, National and World Title holder and his family. Many thanks to my fellow Speedway subcommittee members and the Motorcycling Queensland staff for all of their help and support throughout the year. Kevin Apps Chairman

Supermoto Sub-Committee Report

In this our second year of operation, the Queensland Supermoto Subcommittee continues to learn how to become an effective advocate group for our riders and supporters. The subcommittee is becoming more aware and understanding of the role that we play in promoting of our chosen discipline. Despite this we still face a number of key challenges and they are: *Lack of Practice venues in South East Queensland *Slower than expected increase in numbers *Attracting new riders to the discipline *Scheduling of events to fit in with national calendar *Greater recognition from our national governing body – Motorcycling Australia *The use of One event licenses at Open meetings Some noteworthy On-Track achievements for Queensland Supermoto to be proud of are: *Ross Taylor 1st place: S1 National Title *Beau Laing 2nd place: S2 National Title (winner of round 2 of Australian Titles) *Tom Gardiner 3rd place: S1 National Title Some noteworthy Off-Track achievements for Queensland Supermoto to be proud of are: *The development of the Whitsundays Motorsport complex *The development of dirt sections at Morgan Park Raceway *A S9 Junior class being run as part of the North Queensland Road Race Titles *Gladstone and Rockhampton Kart Tracks hosting CQ Minimoto Club events Some developing trends that the Supermoto discipline needs to be aware of include: *A decrease in the number clubs interested in hosting or promoting events *An increase in the number of North Queensland riders. *Others states growing in events and numbers *S1 class declining in numbers The Supermoto subcommittee would like to acknowledge our major sponsors, namely: LKI, JN's Race Products, Motoworks NZ, Ultimately we believe that the Supermoto subcommittee continues to be of great benefit to the sport and has created of a lot of awareness statewide. We are appreciative of the ongoing support that we receive from Motorcycling Queensland.

Women’s Sub-Committee Report

2011 was a year of ups and downs for Women’s Motorcycling in Queensland. Our rider numbers in “female only” classes continue to creep up in senior classes, but disturbingly, the number of younger riders entering the sport at club level seems to be on the decline. The Ringmaster Images 2011 Queensland Women’s Motocross Championships were held early in the year at Coolum and this event set the bar by which all women’s events will be judged for years to come. It proved to be both a celebration of women in the sport and a test of their tenacity, as the weather did not make conditions easy for the riders. The No 1 plate for 2011 was once again taken out by 2010 winner, Courtney Knight. Later in the year, Coolum also hosted the Australian Women’s Motocross Championships, and once again, the weather decided to really test the ability and strength of the girls, turning the track into a mud bath with conditions better suited to Jetskis than bikes! 2011 sees the retirement of the very popular “Go Girls” series and the Women’s Sub-Committee extend our thanks to the Farnell family for their dedication to the series. Tripp Industries has come on board for 2012 to sponsor a new development series aimed at growing our riders both in numbers and skills. The Women’s Sub- committee will be hosting six events in 2012. The CQ region continues to support women’s racing by offering a standalone women’s class in the very popular CQ series. Central Queensland will also host both rounds of the 2012 Queensland Women’s Motocross Championships, and we thank Arrow Energy for their sponsorship of the Championships. Kelly Nash
