What Pokemon Go can teach about work place management?
Desire, not necessity, is the mother of invention.
Rock to Hammer. • Rocks came to be used as hammers.
• Depending upon shape; size; toughness a particular rock made up to a good hammer.
• However, later it was felt that even the best rock has limitation as a hammer.
• Today there are around 500 hundred different types of hammer.
We are talking about the desire to improve the
management of support roles.
Like rock to hammer, performance management is also constantly evolving.
One such a trend is of particular importance is
"Gamification".
What Gamification does: is sparking a desire to do well & strong sense of engagement.
I thought I would mention some of the game elements of Pokemon Go, that can be applied in workplace to
intrinsically motivate people.
Collection is an innate human urge. We want to collect- stamps, certificate,
badges, Pokemon. What if we gives badges to support reps?
There is a fear of being left behind in Pokemon Go. So people play.
Can't this be applied in work place?
It emerges as a challenge to collect more
Pokemon.
Using surprise element • Walking around with the Pokemon App and
waiting for a buzz indicating that there is Pokemon nearby.
• Surprise element can be used to create high performing habits.
• This tactic can absolutely be applied in work place environment.
We do apply some of these elements on Enterprise
Gamification - which is applying some game elements & not games.
The trend is around intrinsically motivating
people through Gamification.
