16 May 2012 Dear Parents and Friends of Holy Cross Mothers’ Day Mass The Mothers’ Day Mass last year was the fourth year that it has been held in this daytime format. Each year, the gathered congregation has been larger and larger. Last Thursday the Chapel was full and enjoyed a fantastic celebration of the joy and sacredness of motherhood. The morning tea in the Delany Paddock in glorious Autumn sunshine had every mother present promising to return next year. I wish to thank every single mother who was present last Thursday. Your support for the College in its endeavours to educate your son is deeply appreciated. Many mothers, of course, could not be there due to work. Next year, plan early to take the morning off — you won’t regret the special experience that you encounter as a result! Conversations with the Executive Director — Regional Parent Forums The Executive Director of Catholic Schools, Dr Dan White, held regional meetings with parents in Term 1 from across Sydney Catholic schools. One might ask the question — If all is going well for my children at school, why do I need to be involved at a regional/CEO level, and talk to the Executive Director? A Holy Cross parent who attended the Term One forum provides the answer: “Feedback from parents is vital to the place where policy is set and funds allocated so that all concerned can see how effectively the schools are serving the students learning needs, and adjustments can be made where needed.” Other parent feedback from Conversations with the Executive Director was very positive. I encourage parents to consider attending. Since its inauguration just over three years ago, the Foundation has sent almost $100,000 in support of Patrician missions in Paua New Guinea, Kenya and Ghana. Additionally, the Foundation makes substantial donations to youth support and rehabilitation projects in Australia each year. I urge parents from the Holy Cross community to attend this first Delany dinner in four years. It will be Foundation fundraiser, fantastic social get-together and a fabulous dinner. There is an increasing safety concern with the number ofstudents who catch a bus home of an afternoon on VictoriaRoad. The biggest concern is that there is an accident waitingto happen with the volume of students crossing andcongregating on Victoria Road and the surrounding bus stops. In an effort to minimise the risk and maintain order andsupervision, the following steps must be followed by everystudent who catches a public bus or school special after schoolon Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. I would appeal toparents to discuss these new procedures with your sons inorder to support and address our safety concerns.

From Monday of Week 4 (May 14th). The new procedure is asfollows...

All students who catch a bus of an afternoon (Public orschool bus) must line up in the bus bay area outside theDelany Building.

1.

As teachers arrive for bus duty they will escort studentsto their bus stop.

2.

All teachers on bus duty will need to collect their studentsfrom the bus bay.

3.

The Year Coordinators on Bus Duty will be posted at theVictoria Road crossing.

4.

The only exception to this rule is Thursday. There are alot less students around catching buses on Thursdaysand so they will be permitted to walk to their bus stop andmeet the teacher on duty there.

5.

Hopefully families had a nice weekend with a lovely Mothers'sDay celebration. In this month of May, let's think of our mumevery day and also the important women in our lives. Take timeto reflect on and say the Hail Mary as Mary our good motherreminds us of our own mother who loves and guides us always.

Enjoy your week,Mr Buxton.

It was early in the morning arriving at the start of our trip wefirst had lunch and then found out the best route to get to ourdestination. With maps we then set of with our heavy backpacks and Mr Whitty and our guide, John, started out on asmooth flat path but then we started to go downhill into the bushnot that much longer into the downhill bush path we foundourselves in a very slippery muddy path. A few people fell overincluding my self and then we got to the bottom and found outthat we had gone the wrong way it was funny because we puteffort in getting down here for nothing. We worked our way upquicker than we did going down and set off into the real bush.

Page 5: Mothers’ Day Mass Delany Foundation Dinnerholycrosscollege.org/newsandevents/crossroads/20120516T2.pdfMay 16, 2012  · the Term Two conversation for the Inner West are as follows:

We found our selves going down into the dry bush tacklingrocks and boulders, huge trees and a downwards path. Wethen got to the bottom stopping going back up and then downagain for our 3rd break after three hours of walking. We hadstopped at a water stream some of us put our heads in to coolourselves off and then we found out were we were and wherewe are going next we were heading into the right way and aftera 4 hours of walking found our selves at our next checkpoint. This was nice as we had a chance to fill up our water bottles. We then set off again for our camp site. This is when nightstarted to fall we go out our torches and started to head for ourcamp so we could get some sleep and eat dinner. We foundourselves at about 10 o’clock still walking and close to ourcamp when I fell down our path way and rolled down a couple offeet. We stopped for quite a while because of my leg so ourguide took the rest of the group to the camp site and left two ofmy friends with me and after 2 hours we made it to thecampsite. We immediately put up our tent and got our food onour portable cooker me and my friends in my tent had noodlesas soon as they were ready I remember Michael devouringthem. After dinner we went to bed and had a good rest. Thenext day we didn't have to walk that far until we stopped againand I left early because of my leg. The rest of the group battledtheir way up a huge mountain and did so at a good pace. Thegroup should be very proud of their efforts as they provedthemselves under challenging circumstances.
