FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK What a fantastic turn out we had for our Mother’s Day breakfast this morning. Jodie and her amazing team of helpers cooked up 280 eggs, 11 kilos of bacon and 15 kilos of sausages! Thank you to all our families who attended and to our ‘Family and Friends’ who once again organised an outstanding event for our school community. Tomorrow this will be followed up with our annual Mother’s Day stall where students can purchase a gift for a special person in their life. Next week our grade 3 and grade 5 students will be completing the NAPLAN assessment to assess their knowledge and skills in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. There is more information in the newsletter regarding the assessments. If you have any further questions or concerns, please see your child’s teacher or a member of the school leadership team. To give your child their best opportunity to experience success, we would suggest students get plenty of sleep leading up to the assessments, have a hearty breakfast and arrive at school in plenty of time to start the school day. Parents we appreciate that car parking spaces are limited, we ask you to please consider others by not parking in the disabled car park unless you have a registered sticker. Also as a safety issue please do not park in the no standing zone in Church Street. Cooperation and patience is key.

Super Dennis Fun World

By 2D

Deep in the big, blue ocean at Super Dennis Fun World, Mr B. was having a colourful dance party with his friends. Mr B. is a nickname for Mr Beluga who just happens to be a big, white, Beluga whale. Mr B. is the manager of Super Dennis Fun World. The party was to celebrate the new year. At the party there were bubbles and lights, special underwater fireworks and fish fingers! Angela the catfish who worked as security was there. So was Inky the octopus and Nanalie the starfish. They worked together at the café selling food and drinks. Super Dennis the human even came for a dance! Halfway through the party, Inky decided to go for a walk. On the walk he met two gigantic saltwater crocodiles. Inky introduced himself to the crocs who were called John and Brutus. Thinking they were nice, he invited them back to the party. Unfortunately, John and Brutus were not nice and at the party they tried to eat everyone. They swam around with their big snapping mouths chasing everyone. Inky was now hiding on a waterslide, holding the walls, watching everyone run away. Angela and Nanalie were hiding in the corner of the pool. Mr B. was trying to get everyone else to safety. Inky decided to be brave, he went down the slide and snuck off to find Super Dennis. Super Dennis was still at the party. Inky saw Super Dennis dancing and told her about John and Brutus/ Super Dennis put on her red cape and flew through the park to save the day. She snuck up behind the crocs and gave them a big kick in the bum!

John and Brutus soared out of the park and across to the other side of the ocean. Mr B. made an

announcement and the party started again in full swing. John and Brutus were never seen again at

Super Dennis Fun World.

Being on Time Matters

At Kilmore Primary School we are committed to providing your child with an excellent education. The building blocks of a great education begin with all students coming to school each and every day. Regular school attendance is vital and missing school days and being late to school can have a big impact on a child’s future – missing one day a fortnight a student will miss four full weeks by the end of the year. By Year 10 they’ll have missed more than a year of school. There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes.

The table above shows the number of students late to school each day last week. Unfortunately, we still have many students coming late to school.

Help your class win the next Being on Time Matters award by arriving at school on time!

Dear Parent/Carer The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) 2018 for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students will be held on Tuesday 15 May, Wednesday 16 May and Thursday 17 May 2018. NAPLAN tests assess student knowledge and skills in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. The results of the tests provide information for students, parents, teachers and principals which can be used to improve student achievement. All students are expected to participate in the NAPLAN tests. During test week, catch-up tests will be available for individual students who are absent on test days. These students may undertake catch-up tests on the days in the test week after the scheduled test, up to and including Friday 18 May 2018. Support can be arranged for students with disabilities, if the student regularly uses similar support for classroom assessment tasks. Large print, braille and black and white versions of the tests are available for students that require them. Exemptions may be granted to students with significant intellectual disabilities and to students who have been learning English for less than one year. If your child is eligible for support due to disability or an exemption, you should discuss this with his/her teacher prior to the tests. Parental consent is required before any support due to disability or exemption is granted. Students may be withdrawn from NAPLAN by their parent or carer. This is a matter for consideration by parents and carers in consultation with the principal. If, after consultation, you decide to withdraw your child, you must sign a Student Withdrawal form. These forms are available at the school. Later in the year you will receive your child’s personal NAPLAN report. The report will describe your child’s particular skills in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. The report will also show how your child performed in relation to national minimum standards. These describe the minimum acceptable standards for students across Australia. I am confident that the information you receive as a result of your child’s participation in the NAPLAN tests will be valuable in helping you to assess your child’s progress in literacy and numeracy. For more information about the tests, please visit the VCAA website at www.vcaa.vic.edu.au or the NAP website at www.nap.edu.au Yours sincerely Kim Laffan Principal
