RCIA Testimonial
I was raised Catholic, baptized and did my First Holy Communion, but did not make my Confirmation. I started going back to church more after my daughter had her twin boys, they turned 7 in August. I am a yoga teacher and I’ve taken the Reiki Level I & Level II training. Reiki is some form of energy work. Last summer I was sitting in church and I thought to myself that I feel that I need to get an attunement from this Reiki master level teacher. But then a voice inside me told me what better attunement than to receive the Holy Spirit, so why not make Confirmation. And I wondered if it was my thoughts talking to me, but it was God talking to me, and he made my path clear.
I called St. Mary’s Rectory asking about making my Confirmation. Deacon Paul called me back and explained how the next RCIA classes were beginning in September 2018, every Tuesday at 7:30PM in the Bedford Avenue Chapel. At first, I had a conflict with work, but the RCIA Team was very accommodating and providentially the Chapel was near to my place of work. I saw an opened door, an opportunity for me to still be able to attend the RCIA Program. I felt that this was meant to happen, this was meant for me, with the Chapel being so close. During my RCIA classes I was going through some hard times in my 14-year relationship, I almost broke it off in 2017, but didn’t have the courage. I kept trying and trying, and I felt that the more I tried, the more it didn’t work out. I felt closer to God and I kept praying, talking with God and asking Him to guide me and show me the way. I finally got the courage, as difficult as it was, and with the help of God, I ended my relationship as we got closer to the end of the RCIA Program.
Deacon Paul was very kind, accommodating and helpful, but it was God working through him to make it possible for me to get confirmed. He would also meet with me when I was unable to attend a session. I loved the RCIA meetings on Tuesdays. I learned so much, and I always had questions, and still have so much more to learn. I am so grateful to Father Joe, Father Adolf, Father Tom, Deacon Paul and Deacon Mel for all their hard work, time and devotion to the RCIA group, and also thankful to everyone else who helped with the RICA meetings, including all of the mentors. ~ Nancy Maldonado

New York Blood Center thanks the generous donors at St. Mary’s and encourages “new blood” to step forward and donate! Be in good health, bring photo ID, and call 1-800-688-0900 with any eligibility questions. Thank you and God bless.

If we put God first where money is concerned, we will eventually put God first in everything we do. Sounds good! Thank you for doing all that you can.

St. Joseph's Seminary Collection
Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan has asked if you would prayerfully consider a sacrificial gift to the Annual Seminary Appeal which will take place next weekend, September 28/29. Your support will provide tuition, room and board, academic training and spiritual formation for 22 seminarians of the Archdiocese. Thousands of holy, dedicated and faithful priests have been ordained over the past 122 years at Dunwoodie. It is nationally renowned, and held in the highest regard by bishops from around the country.
"We must be sure that our future priests are as well prepared as possible to serve the Church in New York. Our seminarians are not only the future of our flock, but they are also spiritual guides and leaders in our communities. The priesthood is a life of sacrifice and service. As you know, we do not have as many men making the commitment to serve as priests as we did years ago, and I am so grateful to those who accept the Lord's call. Please help me in providing for our seminarians who will hand on the life and traditions of the Church as they embark on their training to become your priests. With gratitude and prayerful best wishes." Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York
