Dear Parishioners, In Jesus’ time, plow animals always worked in pairs. The yokes they used were specially fitted to each animal to ease their burden so that they could work together more easily and share the load. It is quite possible that Jesus carved and formed and fitted such yokes upon the backs of various plow animals in His hometown of Nazareth. The Master Carpenter seems to know just what we can carry and what we can’t in the trials of life, with always our final destination in mind. When Jesus says to take up his yoke, he is offering to share our burdens and to help carry our load as a partner on the journey. He knows what is best for us on our journey toward holiness and eternal life, and our Lord Jesus is there with us each and every step of the way. May the Lord bless you always! Fr. Winchel

BANNS OF MARRIAGE

Amanda Carter Douglas Raynor

REQUIESCAT IN PACE

Please pray for the repose of the soul of:

Emma Volpe, mother of Thalia Eden, who passed away on June 28th.

Monica Carter, sister of Manette Pherson,

who passed away in Minnesota.

Come, Holy Ghost, our hearts inspire, Let us thine influence prove:

Source of the old prophetic fire, Fountain of life and love.

Come, Holy Ghost, for moved by thee

The prophets wrote and spoke; Unlock the truth, thyself the key,

Unseal the sacred book.

Expand thy wings, celestial Dove, Brood o’er our nature’s night;

On our disordered spirits move, And let there now be light.

God, through himself, we then shall know

If thou within us shine, And sound with all thy saints below,

The depths of love divine.

Mass Etiquette / Dress

With the arrival of Summer, please remember to dress modestly for Mass. If we

were invited to a gala event, we wouldn’t dress as though we were going to the beach. Christ Himself has invited us to partake in the

sacred banquet of the Eucharist. Our attire and our reverent actions should reflect where

we are and Whose we are. Dressing extremely informally or revealing is

distracting and disrespectful. Dressing up for Mass is certainly not “out of date.” Parents

should also monitor their children’s dress for Mass. Always remember to be clean, neat,

and modest when attending Mass.

The “King Of Instruments”

Known as the “King of Instruments,” a pipe organ is a magnificent instru-ment whose sound is produced by wind being blown through pipes of varying lengths and composition. It can sound like a solo instrument (flute, trumpet, oboe, etc.) or it can sound like a full orchestra—some theater organs even have percussion! St. Joseph is blessed indeed to have a won-derful Schlicker pipe organ installed in 1986 to replace the aging Pilcher organ which was installed when the church was being built and was played at the dedication Mass in 1903. The current instrument has 53 ranks of pipes, with each rank generally being a set of 66 pipes, one for each note on the organ keyboard. In our case, this amounts to over 3000 pipes rang-ing in length from 3” to 16’. The material from which a rank of pipes is made, the shape of the pipe itself (narrow or wide), and the mouth of the pipe, are just a few of the factors that determine the character of the sound produced by each pipe. The tallest pipes that can be seen across the face of our instrument are 16’ tall and produce a sound tone octave lower than the note written in the music. The builders were able to incorporate 2-3 ranks and the console from the original organ into the new one. If you would like to see the organ “up close and personal,” please feel free to come up to the loft after almost any Mass and take a look. It will be easy to see why it is called the “King of Instruments” as you see the size and number of the pipes and hear a demonstration of the different sounds that can be made. The glorious stained glass rose window behind the pipes provides a perfect backdrop with its Jesuit motto, “Ad Majoram Dei Gloriam,” -- To the Greater Glory of God!
