Presidents report

Happy 40th Birthday to the Morris Register of Queensland. Initially started in 1978 by a group of people interested in Morris vehicles. Only four of the originals are still members and they disserve our gratitude, thank you.

Hopefully this will be my last Presidents report and someone else will take over the role at the Toowoomba AGM. I have been President for 7 years now and this exceeds the Constitution rules. Several other Committee members want a break and new people to take over for a while. Remember the Register is only as good as you make

it. Put your hand up and pitch in.

On other news I have sold a few cars and bought a few more, so there has been a few changes within my shed. At the moment I’m 4 less than last year. I have also accepted a new International job and will be travelling for at least one-two weeks every month. In the short term this will be a bit rough but over the longer term, it will certainly improve our frequent flyer points.

Remember to RSVP by the 10th July if you are coming to Toowoomba. The run on Saturday afternoon is about 120 kms and another 65 kms on Sunday morning. This should satisfy those people that want to go driving. The AGM will be at the Westbrook tavern starting at 11:00am on Sunday. From the 14th to the 27th July I’ll be in America, so please don’t try ringing me (there’s a 12 hour time delay).

and informative tour that takes around 1 hour, book and pay at the cafe when ordering your coffee. Tour costs

$22.00 per person. We have been to the farm several times and learnt something new each time and found it most

interesting. After the tour we will drive to Harrisville (about 10minutes) for our meeting and lunch.

Our Run to Colleges Crossing with Excerps from the Meeting

It was a cold and windy day with good sunshine, with Colleges Crossing its usual pleasant location. 9 members

were present with apologies from Shirley Leitch, Lance & Gwen Simmers. The most recent magazines from other

clubs were available and Garry Troth read out the financials for the Rally and total Register finances. It was good to

hear that the National Rally broke even financially. Jill’s ability to win extra sponsorship was the extra factor in

making the event financially positive. Raffle proceeds raised $1600, thank you to Patricia for making and donating

the quilt as the major prize. Thank you to the other people who also donated prizes.

There was some discussion on why the Club pays for two meals per year (as printed in the magazine) as this will

become financially draining with the membership of $40 and the meal costs of $60-120. Most other clubs offer a

$10 discount for meals at their major events. The RSVP date for the Birthday weekend is the 12 July (let Col know if

you are coming please). A donation of car manuals was received from Barry Martin and these are now stored in the

club library. Nominations for new committee members are being sort and a few names have been put forward.

John Scowen is remembered as a very active member who drove his many Morris’s actively. Col Schiller

Happy Morrying....Greg

Hi All,

I would like to introduce myself, My name is Neil Frost and I am the new editor and secretary for the Morris Register of SA. If you would like a copy of the May edition of our Newsletter please email me. Club Secretary/ Club Editor,

Morris Register of South Australia mob 0432 154 795 Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/morrisregisterofsa/

Greetings readers from Morris Register of Victoria If you are wanting to view the July 2018 edition of the Morris Register of Victoria’s News-letter contact our Secretary Gary Moore. There is no link to a website.

From Member, Syd and Pauline Norman

After over 55 years of membership and lots of Morris I am having a change of direction with my vehicles and will sadly not be continuing my Club membership.

I have now sold my Morris Minor ute and bought a1979 Fiat X19 which I found while looking for a Healey Sprite.

As I have always liked the X19, and as I have owned a 1924 Fiat 501 tourer for 40 years I will now be joining the Fiat Club here.

The Morris 8/40 bits I have collected over many years will go when I find someone who needs them.

Whilst I haven’t been particularly involved of late, I have enjoyed the magazine and the runs that I have been on.

So please give my best wishes to the members. Regards Syd

Reply: The Morris Register members wishes Syd and Pauline the very best and please keep in touch.

From BSSMMC Graham Morris

We would love to see as many of you as possible come along and join us on our day on Oct 21 at the Ormiston State School. .

Thank you so much for your lovely email regarding our up coming Display Day and for advertising it to your members.

We would like to thank your club and you personally Jill, for making our club feel so welcome over Easter at your Rally. We had a thoroughly enjoyable few days with you all. Several of our members who didn't attend now wish that they did.

Thanks again Jill. Graham

Bit of a Buzz: Jill was washing the woollens a few days ago and she checked the ‘washing instruc-tions’ as per usual and this one read:

‘100% cotton, Cold Wash, Dry Flat in Shade, Reshape, Do Not Tumble Dry, Do Not Bleach, Warm Iron, Reverse tag……... Or Give It To Your Mother She Knows How To Do It’. True Story…….

Canberra Region Morris Minor Club Update

Registrations for the the Canberra 21-23 September rally are

coming in steadily.

It will be enormously helpful to us in organising grille badges, the layout of the display day and table settings for the

two pay-as-you go dinners if we can have your details sooner rather than later, so keep them coming in.

Our Facebook page continues to receive a great hit rate: https://www.facebook.com/Morris-Minor-National-Rally-

2018-Canberra-433630257069480/ Apart from info about the rally itself, it has links to some of the great things

happening in and around Canberra and Queanbeyan in September. We’ve also attached the entry form, in case

you’ve misplaced your previous copy.

The entries, so far…We’re getting broad representation across the years with entries from ’52, ’53, ’56, ’57, ’58, ’59,

’60, ’62, ’63 and ‘71. And we have all body styles. It would be good to have all year models and body styles for those

years to complete the show, so if your car is a rare one, we’d love to see you here.

Some updates and reminders...Around the country Bowls have underpinned the social life of many communities.

We’re delighted that the Queanbeyan RSL Memorial Bowling Club has agreed to host our dinner on Saturday

night: www.qrslm.bowls.com.au . It hosts the longest standing Chinese restaurant in Queanbeyan, but also includes

traditional club staple dishes on its menu. We’re developing a suitable program of activities to make the night a

special celebration of the 70th anniversary. And don’t forget, the welcome dinner at the Queanbeyan Roos club on

Friday, will be a cracker and continue to build the ‘friendly rally’ atmosphere. It will be pay-as-you-go, a format that

worked so well in Victoria last year. Check out the club: http://www.roosclub.com.au/

Sunday...We’ve started detailed planning of the tour cruises around some of the region’s best sights and sites,

including some of the national institutions that dot the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. The idea will be to have several

packets of MMs zipping around the city, stopping somewhere nice for lunch and all arriving back at the Sutton Road

hill climb centre for a final farewell cuppa.

Trophies...Just a reminder that we would like to locate all perpetual trophies so we can discuss arrangements to have

them in Canberra in time.

Delegates’ meeting...A final call for any agenda items for the Delegates’ meeting to enable their circulation for

proper consideration by clubs – they should be forwarded to [email protected] by no later

than 25 June 2018.

Useful addresses...For Queanbeyan, visit: http://www.visitqueanbeyan.com.au/accommodation

Wanted We purchased a 1959 Morrie sedan 5 years ago and have now decided to give it a full body restoration, Peter has carried out the mechanical but discovered the paint both front guards are very rusted and are looking if anyone within your club would have or know of anyone that has some guards available. We also have a 1958 Morrie baker van which we purchased 2 years ago having been off the road for 40+ years and requires a full restoration. Long term, we are requiring 4 (2 sets) as the van has had odd bits and pieces added to it over the years, and we are wanting to restore that vehicle to its original glory. Peter & Chris Billingham
