Fantastic week last week with our
mind on swimming which was
pretty timely seeing as how hot it
was for most of the week. Barrier
Swim carnival saw an enthusiastic
Morgie team perform very well.
The best part was the support they
provided each of our swimmers no
matter what place they achieved.
Thankyou Ms Sheargold and Ms
Dougherty who managed the team
on the night and to all the parents
and students who attended. You
have done Morgan Street Public
School proud.
On Friday our support of the
YMCA Swimathon fundraiser saw a
great result as you can see on this
page. Our board short day and coin
lines were well subscribed and
raised funds which will stay in
Broken Hill to support students
who are in need of swim lessons.
Thankyou to all who contributed to
assist this worthy cause and to
those who participated at the pool
on Sunday.
Morgan Street School Voluntary
Contributions letters will arrive
soon and we thank all parents who
make this payment as it is used to
support the classroom needs of all
of students. Morgan Street
contributions are the same for each
student being $45 which is very
reasonable. I recall an article on a
Sydney school recently, where the
cost was close to $200 per student,
mainly in line with the increase in
technology needs. So far between
school funds and P&C funding our
technological growth, we have not
needed to take such a pathway.

Thank you to everyone who donated a gold coin on
Friday for Board Shorts Day. The money raised will
go towards supporting people with disabilities learn to
swim at their local YMCA.
Pictured above and below are the money lines from
3-6 and K-2 students. Fantastic effort!
Shane from the YMCA receiving our cheque for
$325.50 for Board Shorts Day. Well done everyone!
School Contributions
Student contribution
invoices have been posted
today. Thank you to the
families that have already
paid their annual
contributions.

3C - The place to be! Hello everyone and welcome to our first newsletter article for 2016.
We have started off well this year, our first in primary school. We have been very busy learning new routines and have been challenging ourselves with alien maths, times tables,
and learning about Australia and its history.
In science, we have been investigating the different properties of natural and man made materials. Did you know that silk is one of the strongest natural fibres? Who would have
thought a soft, tiny worm could make something so durable, silky and beautiful?
Mrs Calder told us we have been doing a great job of writing reports. Did you know that Orang-utans in Melbourne Zoo play video games? No, we didn't either until last week!
Marloo the Orang-utan ‘gamer’ from Melbourne Zoo loves playing computer games. 3C
would like to do a Video Conference with him...stay
tuned!
We have loved swimming lessons this year, and enjoy cooling off on Friday’s. What an awesome way to end the school week! We also celebrated a birthday last week - Happy Birthday again Ethan and thanks for the cupcakes! As you can see below, we are happy and having fun in 3C. The cupcakes
were a special treat and we enjoy getting surprises!
YUM!!! Cupcakes! We have
had a good start
to the year in primary school - look at
our smiles!

P.R.O.U.D checklists will be coming home this week.
They will indicate how well your child is going following
our school rules. If all the boxes are ticked then they are
well on the way to earning their first P.R.O.U.D. Award
for 2016. If not, then it is still not too late to work on
the area/s of concern
Last Thursday our Morgie Swim Team did us proud
competing at the Barrier Swimming Carnival. We
had swimmers in just about every race and when
they weren’t swimming they were cheering on their
fellow team mates.
Overall Morgan Street finished in 3rd place. A big
congratulations to Kalyce Pressler who was the
Senior Girl Age Champion winning all six of her
events and breaking five records - a fantastic
achievement.
We look forward to
seeing how Kalyce
performs at the
State Swimming
Carnival at the end
of this term.
Go Kalyce!
