We challenge traditional education. We mould students through support and empowerment to become the best possible version of themselves.

UNITEC, MORE THAN EDUCATION

Students don’t learn about life and how to live and succeed in a society from textbooks, they experience it. We create that experience, the feeling of empowerment, the confidence. Students learn life skills through our courses so that they can push their boundaries to excel in the workplace. New Zealand also has an international reputation as a provider of quality education.

When you study at Unitec in New Zealand, you will return with a new perspective on culture, a recognised international education, and a willingness to learn which will make you very attractive to your future employer. We are part of the international association of Universities.

We offer a university standard education in an applied learning environment meaning students get hands on practice learning about their chosen subject.

Students can study their undergraduate bachelor degrees with us, along with postgraduate diplomas and masters!

MEET RITA DEAR

FROM THE UNITED STATES

TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AT UNITEC?

“I’ve enjoyed my experience at Unitec very much so far; the learning style is a bit different from the way I’m used to doing things, but I’ve had fun so far. The lecturers care more about why you do make something, how you make something, and what inspired you to do so. I’ve never really had to approach my art and design studies in that way haha, but its been cool getting a different perspective on things.”

“Do it. Study abroad. I wish I had studied abroad sooner myself!“

WHAT WOULD YOU TELL OTHER STUDENTS FROM YOUR INSTITUTION WHO ARE THINKING ABOUT STUDYING ABROAD?

“Do it. Study abroad. I wish I had studied abroad sooner myself! I am glad that I had the chance to come to New Zealand especially; it’s a beautiful island country and the people here are so friendly!

Although I waited to study abroad my last semester of college, it was still the best decision ever!!”

GETTING AROUNDGetting around Auckland is easy. We have great public transport available on buses, trains and ferries, along with taxi’s and even Uber.

When you arrive in New Zealand, we encourage you to buy an AT HOP travel card for discounted travel on trains, selected buses and ferries. To receive tertiary student discounts, all you need is to get a AT tertiary ID sticker from the Unitec Student Hub. For more information, and timetable, please see: www.at.govt.nz

If you are wanting the freedom of getting around on your own, you could even get an international licence and purchase a car! Purchasing second hand cars is easy and often cheap, you can find them online via www.trademe.co.nz or there is also the Auckland Ellerslie Racecourse Car Fair that is held on Sundays. Alternatively there are plenty of authorised car dealers around Auckland.

You can drive in New Zealand for up to 12 months if you have either a current driver’s licence from your home country or an International Driving Permit (IDP). It is New Zealand law to always carry your driver’s licence with you when driving in New Zealand. If your overseas driver’s licence is written in a foreign language, please have it translated into English and carry both with you. You can be fined if you drive without a licence.

Please consult the New Zealand Automobile Association’s Guide before buying a car.
