Mops Rapid Improvement Event

Use Vileda SWEP Mopping system in all of the wards The SWEP Mopping system has proven to be useful in

the fight against HAI. Since Implementation there have been logistical issues inventory – no mops getting them to the right person at the right time (the Domestic

Staff) in the right place. Potential HAI issues

NHS Tayside used the Rapid Improvement Event model for this problem bringing together Domestics, Porters and Laundry Team members to analyse the current process, identify inefficiencies (using Lean Methodology) and implement new better processes to make life easier for them and the organisation.

The RIE process identified that:

Ownership and managing the inventory was not as good as it could be and this was rectified

Logistics of getting the items from the Laundry to the Wards was not very Lean.

The different disciplines had no idea how “the other half lived” i.e. how the problem affected them. This process let them see the end to end.

Domestics were “hoarding” the mops for fear of not getting more – this just took even more out of the system.
