My experience during berthing and un berthing is that our bridge team is compose of captain, chief mate, helmsman and pilot of the respective port. The mooring arrangement of our vessel is 3,2/ or 3 headlines and 2 spring line. Same also in the aft. 3 stern line and 2 aft spring. Before berthing we arrange already the line so that its easy to give the line when berthing, prepare the heaving line and rat guards. I also operated the winch when there is lacking of crew in the station while laying the lines. But when berthing, it is the bosun who is the one operating the winch. My part during that time is to throw the heaving line or the one who engage and disengage the winch for the spring and headlines. During my time in MV Grietje, I was always in the forward station. After un berthing the vessel, we secure the lines for sailing unless we go to port to port just an hours of sailing, we just arrange again the lines and just secure it on the bitts.
