A Message from the President

Mr. David Boudreaux

Dear Parents, Welcome to a new school year! This is a special year for our school for a number of reasons. First of all, we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the opening of our current facility all year long. On September 1, 1965, the doors of Houma Central Catholic opened for the first time. A year later, the name was changed to Vandebilt Catholic High School. Throughout this school year, clubs and teams will host alumni events as part of our celebration. On September 1, 2015, we are planning a special Eucharistic celebration at 9:30 a.m. All graduates from 1966, all valedictorians, all class presidents, past advisory council presidents, past principals/president, and others should have received invitations to the Mass. Parents are always welcome to attend school Mass, but because we are hoping for a large turnout, we ask that parents planning to attend call (985) 580-1868 to RSVP by August 21, 2015. The football team and cheerleaders will honor their alumni at a 5 p.m. reception in the Kolb Center before the VCHS vs. EDW football game on September 4. The Regiment, our band, will honor past band, dance team, and color guard members at a 5 p.m. reception on September 25, before the VCHS vs. Covenant Christian football game. We will let you know of other alumni events as they are scheduled. Our largest scheduled event is The New Autumn Festival. More detailed information about it can be found in this publication. Please consider attending these events as we celebrate everything “Blue and Gold.” After a year of research and preparations, we have a new Web portal for students and parents, a new Web site, and a new phone system! Of course, we have experienced a few glitches along the way. Thank you for your patience as these challenges are sorted out. In the end, all of these communication tools will better meet the needs of both parents and students. The reason we have both a Web site and a separate Web portal is that the Web portal is intended for internal communications with parents, students, and teachers. The Web site is designed to communicate with the world. Other new services offered to parents this year include morning and afternoon buses to the lower Lafourche area and a supervised study hall for those students riding the 5:30 p.m. bus or for those waiting beyond 3:30 for their ride home. These services are offered at no charge at this time, but small fees may be assessed in the future once the costs and amount of participation is evaluated. We have gotten off to a great start, and we look forward to a successful year! I hope to see all of you at Back-to-School Night on August 26, and at the New Autumn Festival on September 5. Yours in Christ,

David Boudreaux, President

Once again this year, we ask your cooperation and patience in following traffic procedures as the construction continues on Hollywood Road. Traffic can be heavy and the wait long, but your cooperation will move things along as quickly as possible without endangering our students. Students should not be picked up or dropped off in the front of school; please pick up and drop off your child in the back of school. Please do not park at neighboring business establishments and have your child walk to meet you. We have a limited number of staff available to monitor the traffic and students and feel that these areas are beyond our ability to adequately supervise. If your child drives to school, please encourage him to be extremely careful and courteous in the student parking lot. Many accidents occur due to inattention and impatience.

We warmly welcome Brother Ronald Talbot to our Vandebilt family. He will

be assisting with administrative and financial responsibilities. We know his

presence is the result of many prayer requests for God to once again provide a

Brother of the Sacred Heart on our campus!

All parents and students should have received an e-mail with activation information for

PlusPortals, which has replaced Edline. If you have not yet received this message, please contact

the school so that we can rectify the issue. We ask those who have received an activation e-mail but

have not set up a PlusPortals account to please do so as soon as possible. This will ensure that we

keep the lines of communication open.
