Confidentiality Statement

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This report is produced in response to a request from the Responsible Person or their authorised representative for us to complete a Fire Risk Assessment on their behalf. The FRA was conducted in accordance with Article 9 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The key compliance codes used to provide guidance in completing the fire risk assessment include the following, although this is by no means an exhaustive list of references:- 1. HM Government Fire Safety Risk Assessment in Educational Premises2. HM Government Fire Safety Risk Assessment Supplementary Guide for Means of Escape for Disabled People Observed and advised hazards on the premises have been reviewed and are presented in the report taking into account the following key areas. These areas have been assessed and an action plan specific to the assessed risk produced. The Responsible Person should ensure that all non-compliances are resolved in line with the recommendations. The risk rating takes account of the cost implications commensurate with the practicability of achieving the required control measures, i.e. what is “reasonably practicable”. The risk assessment to which this document relates was correct at the time of the inspection but should be regularly reviewed or in the event of significant changes, e.g. a fire event or construction work. The overall risk rating for the premises and the suggested review date is contained within the report.

Construction

Question Response Details

Construction

Structural fire protection is intended to ensure that the building will not collapse prematurely in a fire and that the means of escape for the occupants can be utilized without undue risk. It will not, however, necessarily avoid the material loss of the property. The structural protection is also intended to reduce the potential of fire spread from one building to another. List any concerns you have with elements of structure within the premises

Means of Escape

Question Response Details

Means of Escape

To facilitate escape it is necessary to ensure that protected escape routes are safeguarded against the ingress of smoke and to regulate the distance people have to travel before they reach a storey exit or final exit. List any areas of concern.

4.1 Are the escape routes of such a number and so sited that the travel distance from any point to the nearest storey exit is compliant with relevant guidance or within acceptable limits?

Yes

Suitable means of escape from the main building is provided by the main entrance, with additional final exits in the locker room and some ground floor teaching areas. A protected staircase provides means of escape from the 1st floor, with the lobby protection at 1st floor level provided by self-closing fire doors linked to the fire alarm system.

Single travel direction means of escape is provided from the studio area within the prescribed travel distance of 18 metres.
