Defining Mood

• A mood is a relatively long lasting emotional state and has a positive or negative valence. In other words, people often speak of being in a good mood or a bad mood.

• We can map our emotional states of aggression, happiness, frustration and contentment.

• We can also map the moods of twitter users

Reference• Mood mapping simply involves

plotting how you feel against your energy levels, to determine your current mood. Dr Liz Miller then gives you the tools you need to lift your low mood, so improving your mental health and wellbeing. Dr Miller developed this technique as a result of her own diagnosis of bipolar disorder (manic depression), and of overcoming it, leading her to seek ways to improve the mental health of others.

Social Media Mood Mapping

• North eastern and Harvard researchers have created a mood map of the United States that shows the mood of Americans throughout the day. Using Twitter as a source, a word decoding system called Affective Norms for English Words (ANEW) is applied to over 300 million tweets to decode the mood of people based on their lingo.

• The mood map shows a scale of colour from green to red; red represents angry or negative emotions, while green represents happy ones.
