Transcript of Mood Board

These are some music magazine covers and double page spreads that have inspired me.

Above, I’ve shown some fonts found on some artist’s album covers from my mood board. Most of these fonts for this style of music look handwritten (to add to the relaxed, laid-back image). Below, I’ve found some fonts that I like and are similar to those above. I’ve also started to think of some names for my music magazine – my magazine is about acoustic music so I tried to find names of parts of a guitar to start off with. I then looked at song title from these artists and found ‘Between The Lines’, I think this would make a good title for my magazine.

These are my sketches of ideas for my music magazine – I’ve come up with several ideas for front cover and double page spread.

My magazine is aimed at the young adult age group (16-24). It’s music style is mainly acoustic, soul and jazz. It’s overall image is natural and relaxed and easy-going. It’s unique selling point (USP) is that it covers a style of music that no other youth orientated music magazine covers. It also has a lot of variety in it – it has plenty to read, including interviews with the artists (about their music and their thoughts behind it, not about their personal lives like a tabloid – hence the magazine title and slogo – Between The Lines; the music and the people).

This is a more detailed sketch for my front cover – I’ve included the masthead font that I’d like to use, and come up with a slogo. I’d like to get a photo like the picture I’ve drawn for the front cover – I’ll get a friend to pose as the artist. I’m not sure what colours to use yet, but I want it to be an Autumn / Christmas issue so I might use colours like orange red and green (like I’ve used

on this sketch) or blue and white.

Here I’ve tried to work out some suitable colour schemes for my magazine’s front cover. This particular issue is in December so I’m going to make my magazine a Christmas issue, so it has a theme to run with. I’m thinking of basing my colour scheme around the photo (the artist will wear holly in her hair) so I’ve decided to use red and green and one other colour. These are my first ideas and a mock-up of how it might look.
