    NATURAL SCIENCE FOR YOUR SKIN

When treating the skin, there should be a set order in which the Primaryskin types are treated, this is to ensure the skin responds well to treatmentand homecare products. The order is as follows

    SENSITIVE/HYPERSENSITIVE/TRAUMATISED SKIN

If this skin type is left untreated you are limited to product usage.Pre-mature ageing, dehydration and rosacea can progress if sensitivity is not treated.

    DRY/DEHYDRATED SKIN

A dry/dehydrated skin does not absorb product easily, therefore increasing the skinsabsorbency rate, will allow better product penetration. A dry skin also ages thequickest, therefore needs anti-ageing ingredients too.

    OILY SKIN

An oily skin ages the slowest, however, the oil produced within the skin can dilute theactives within products, by balancing and controlling this, we can ensure maximumactives being delivered.

NORMAL/COMBINATION SKINThe ideal skin type, however this needs to be maintained due to the constant dailyattack our skin. Our products for this skin type will balance oilier areas and hydratedrier/dehydrated areas.

In addition to Primary skin types, Secondary skinconcerns can also be treated, examples ofsecondary skin concerns include: Environmental Damage Dull Skin Uneven Texture/Tone Congested Skin/Breakouts Fine Lines/Expression Lines Irritated/Stressed Skins Dehydration Lines Taughtness Natural/Genetic/Photo-ageing

Secondary skin concerns can be treated in orderof client preference; it is just the Primary skin typesthat we recommend you treat in order.

Monu has been formulated towork in synergy together, soproducts can be used across theline to tailor a skin care routine

specifically for your clients. For example, if a client sufferswith a sensitive skin, with oilytendencies, you can recommendproducts from both the sensitiveand oily range to deal with thisand deliver the results yourclients have been longing for.

How to effectively treat the skin?

    Consultations

    NATURAL SCIENCE FOR YOUR SKIN

Before any face or body treatment is performed, it is vital that athorough consultation is carried out to enable you to assess yourclients skin type and current concerns, therefore ensuring youdeliver POSITIVE RESULTS. Following the Monu consultation card, will be an effective aid to ensuring all the relevant questions arecovered.

ObjectivesTo get a full picture of your clients -

    Medical history

Current skin routine Lifestyle Skin allergies Medication Skin complaints

    Client Concerns

If you do not correctly identify your clientsconcerns, then how can you effectively treat hisor her skin?To get the best from your client, asking openended questions is key as this ensures theyanswer you with more detail, so for example Tellme about your skin or What do you currentlyuse on your skin?

The Importance of HomecareHome care should ALWAYS berecommended for your clients to takewith them, this enables to treatmentto continue at home. Home care will

achieve 75% of your clients overallresults! It is of course very importantthat the skin is regularly monitored byhaving professional treatments. Homecare can be recommended duringthe consultation stage of thetreatment and/or at the end of thetreatment.

    Product Knowledge

Know your products and treatments! You are thefountain of knowledge, your clients come to youwith skin problems and concerns and arelooking to you, to educate and recommend.

During the consultation, certain things may cropup such as allergies; as the professional youneed to know which products can be safely usedon the skin or how you can adapt a treatmentfor it to be safe.

In addition to the above, using the

product decision tree, you can getan idea of which products would bebest suited to individual clients.

    Recommend Treatment Courses

    NATURAL SCIENCE FOR YOUR SKIN

As a general rule you would like to see your client at least once amonth to maintain and monitor the skin and results. However, forspecific concerns, or for special occasions, a course of treatmentswould always be highly recommended and should be set out in thefollowing way

    One treatmenta week for 6

    consecutive weeks,followed by

    Onetreatment

    in 3 weekstime,followedby

    One treatmentin 4 weeks

    time, thenassess overallresult

    To maintainresults, your client

should continueto see you oncea month.

It is worth knowing that courses can be carried out as many times throughoutthe year as you feel necessary. If you are working with pigmentation, forexample, then this can be something that can take perhaps 2 full courses oftreatment, before the desired results are achieved.

For the best results , clients need to commit to a combination of homecare andprofessional treatments , if they do this, then they will see quicker results withinthe skin. Why?....Because you have re-educated the skin!

Its always a great idea to take a photo of your clients skin before and after acourse of treatments, so as you can show them the changes and improvementswithin the skin.

Do not forget to mention the followinginformation to your clients

75% of your overall results that you arelooking to achieve comes from thehomecare you use, the remaining 25% ofyour results comes from regularprofessional facials.

    Treatment Protocol

    NATURAL SCIENCE FOR YOUR SKIN

Certain medications or treatments your clients arecurrently undergoing may mean that you have to alter

a treatment. Certain medications may even preventyou from carrying out treatments.Below is a guide of common complaints that yourclient may have and what you can do to amend thetreatment or what you can advise

My client is taking Accutane Accutane is a medication that isnt frequently given out; however,it is given to treat grade 4 acne. Accutane can dramatically thinthe skin and cause a dry, irritated, itchy sensation. Because ofthis, you would need to wait at least 6 months after the clientstops taking the Accutane, before you can treat. It is highlyrecommended to treat the skin with products for sensitive skin tobegin with, until its strength and tolerance is regained.

High/Low blood pressure or heart conditions, doesn't meanyou cant treat, as long as the condition is controlled then youshould be able to treat. It is advised that they are not led flat,so raising the knees and head slightly will also help. If they arehaving a body treatment, do not have the heated couch on toohigh, placing a cool compress on the forehead can also help.

My client suffers withHigh/ Low blood pressureor has a Heart Condition.

A treatment can be carried out after the first trimester, essentialoils, acids and detox treatments should all be avoided. If clientis suffering with preeclampsia then we would recommend notto treat.

    My client is Pregnant

If the varicose vein is protruding then this needs to be avoidedduring any body treatments.

    My client has Varicose Veins

Ideally medical consent should be obtained. Chemotherapypatients may be more prone to bruising and bleeding. Manuallymphatic drainage should be avoided.

    My client has cancer

During a wrap, ensure you do not wrap too tightly. Duringfacials, check they are comfortable with the type of mask youhave recommended, steam or hot towel compresses may haveto be adapted or removed to ensure client comfort.

    My client is Claustrophobic

    NATURAL SCIENCE FOR YOUR SKIN

You can get different levels of microdermabrasion, as ageneral rule allow 3 weeks before starting professional Monutreatments.

    My client recently hadMicrodermabrasion

Depending on where the surgery was, will determine whether

you can treat or not. If a general anaesthetic was given thenthe skin can be more sensitive, dry or prone to irritation soalways treat with caution and use the sensitive line.

    My client has had

    recent surgery

Clients should wait 3-5 days before having any Monuprofessional treatments on the area.

    My client has had waxing/electrolysis

It is recommended that you wait a week before carrying outany professional Monu treatments on the client. If the laser/IPLis being carried out to reduce pigmentation, then you mayneed to wait longer until the skin has healed.

    My client has had laser/IPLtreatments

It is fine to treat; you just need to know how the skin haschanged since the use of these products. If they are prescriptionbased products, then it would be advised to wait until thecourse has finished before using Monu skincare on the skin.

My client current usesproducts containing retinolor AHAs

A diabetic client can sometimes lose skin sensation, thereforeany treatment including heat and electrical equipment should

be avoided. Most commonly, skin sensation is lost in the feet;therefore cuticle nipping should be avoided.

    My client is diabetic

Some of these procedures can be very invasive so always waituntil the skin has completely healed this could take 6-8 weeksin some cases. It would be advised to build the tolerance in

the skin after such treatment; therefore the sensitive line wouldcome highly recommended.

My client has had medicalresurfacing procedures

Both Welcome Rituals only take 2-3 minutes toperform; however, it will induce client relaxation,

help them to feel at ease before the treatmentbegins and allows your client to get familiar withyour touch.

    Duration: 2-3 mins.

Procedure : (If client if facing up)Start at the soles of the feet, using warm mitts(with lavender or lime*) wipe over the feet.Rock at the feet x3, remove the mitts and coverthe feet to retain heat.

Continue the rocking motion all the way up thelegs.

When you reach the hips, move onto pressuresup either side of the arms until you reach theshoulders.

Keeping contact with your client, slide yourhands so you are positioned to perform 3 neckstretches, gently sliding around the shouldersand up the neck each time.

From here, work back down the body as youdid when you initially worked up, finishing atthe feet, applying pressures across the feet and

down the feet (in a grid like way) ensuring youcover all of the pressure points of the body. From here, you can proceed with yourtreatment.

Procedure : (If client if facing down)Start at the soles of the feet, using warm mitts(with lavender or lime*) wipe over the feet.Rock at the feet x3 then remove the mitts.

Cover the feet and continue the side to siderocking up the legs, continue to rock up to thehips.

When you reach the lower back, place onehand on top of the other and then asking yourclient to take 3 deep breaths in and out, applya nice deep pressure to the lower lumbar asthey exhale.

Keeping one hand at the base of the spine, slide the other up to the top of the spine andgently rock to release tension.

Using the flats of the hands draw them into thecentre of the clients back and stretch them

diagonally over the back so the flats of thehands are at the scapular and the oppositehip, giving your clients back a nice stretch, repeat this the other way. Repeat this sequenceonce again.Using gentle sweeping motions, sweep downthe clients body, finishing at the feet, applyingpressures across the feet and down the feet (ina grid like way) ensuring you cover all of thepressure points of the body. From here, you can proceed with your

MONU Spa Deep Cleansing Back BlitzProcedure :Begin with the Monu Spa Welcome Ritual .Body brush the back of the clients back working towards the lymph nodes under the arms (Axillarylymph nodes).Using the Clarifying Cleanser , use 2-3 pumps and massage over the back to remove any dirt or debrisfrom the back area and remove with hot mitts.Follow with the Clarifying Toner to remover any product residue and to prime the skin for the next step.

Using the Body Buffer apply to the entire back and gently massage, you may find by adding a small

amount of warm water this will make the product easier to massage over the back. Ensure you work thebacks of the arms at this point too this also helps to deal with the small bumps often noticed on thebacks of the arms (Keratosis Pilaris) once this has been massaged into the entire back and upper armsthis can then be removed with hot mitts, dry the back with a towel and buff the skins surface to ensureall exfoliation pieces have been removed from the skin surface.

Hot Oil Compress is then applied to the back ( Tea Tree oil scents the water); this will then allow anextractions to take place to the back area prior to the deep cleansing mask being applied.

Using a brush or your hands, apply the Cleansing Mask to the back, cover with a plastic sheet, thenplace the remaining two heated compresses directly onto the plastic to open pores further and enabledeeper absorption of product, lay another plastic sheet over the hot compresses and then, place alarge towel over the top. The mask will stay in place for 15 minutes, during this time, 10 minutes can bespent on a foot and leg massage (5 minutes on each) using the Foot and Leg Balsam , once finished, apply a small amount of the Energy Rub to the soles of the feet, then cover with a towel.

MONU Spa Hot Oil and Salt Scrub PolishProcedureStart with client led on the couch face down.

Begin with the Monu Spa Welcome Ritual then Body Brush the back of the clients body (HawaiianWave).Turn client over and Body Brush the front of the body (again using the Hawaiian Wave method).Apply warmed oil onto one leg, getting the client to bend the knee; this will enable easier application tothe entire leg.Once the leg has a thin coating of warm oil, ensure you have oil on your hands, and press your palmsinto the salts, once you have picked up the salts using an effleurage action, massage up and down the

legs with the salts, if more is needed then repeat the process of picking up the salts and massage intothe skin. After ensuring that the entire limb has been exfoliated, using a hot towel or hot mitts, remove the residuefrom the skins surface and buff lightly over the limb to ensure that most of the salt has been removed. While the clients leg is bent roll the towel that the client is led on, from under the leg into the centre ofthe couch so that when the client rests the leg back on the couch, its on a clean fresh towel with no saltresidue.Repeat this process on the other leg.Apply warm oil to the stomach and work the salts in the same way ensuring you are working in thedirection of the digestion tract. (Always check your clients are happy for you to work on the stomacharea during the consultation stage before the treatment begins.) Remove with hot mitts then cover tokeep warm.Apply warm oil to the arm and in the same way, pick up the salts and massage them into the arm (youmay find it easier to rest your clients hand on your shoulder, leaving both of your hands free to work).Remove once again with hot mitts.Repeat on the other arm.Apply the warm oil to the dcollet area (optional - bust area can be treated too, client dependant, findout during the consultation stage. If they are happy to have the bust area treated, avoid working overthe nipple area) you may need less salt on this more delicate area. Remove with hot mitts.Help the client to sit up on the couch, apply warm oil to the back, then pick up salts to massage into theback, work the area for a little while ensuring you cover the backs of the arms with the salt too, then

remove with hot mitts. Buff the back with a dry towel to remove any salt crystals and before laying yourclient back down, roll the towel towards the buttocks.Once the client is led back down, simply ask them to lift their bottom to easily remove the towel fromunder them. Using a spare pair of mitts, go back over the body and remove any last few crystals thatyou may have missed.Finish the treatment with the application of moisturiser. For those who chose the Ginger and Papaya scrub , the choice of the Enriched Body Creamcan be massaged into the skin in the same order of application as the salts and oil were applied. For adryer skin the Enriched Body Cream is a better option as it has a thicker consistency. For those who opted for the Vanilla and Coffee scrub the application of the Super Sculpt wouldbe the best option to continue to work with the cellulite, water retention and sluggish circulation.
