OMKM Monthly Road Corridor photographs as of 5/20/2015 Page 1 | 11 Monthly road corridor panorama photographs Documenting fireweed (Senecio madagascariensis) conditions and seasonal natural phenomena especially in relation to climate and plant life (phenology). The Office of Maunakea Management has been using photography to monitor the road corridor monthly since June 2012. The purpose of monitoring is to document fireweed distribution and abundance, along with general vegetation phenology to make well informed decisions in management and prevention of invasive species on Maunakea. Monitoring the spread of invasive species, like fireweed, is necessary to better understand and control species that may alter or change the ecology of ecosystems.
