MONTHLY PROJECT REPORT

AFGHANISTAN

Masjid construction Currently construction on 3 large Masjid’s are underway. This will enable the local communities to have a place central to their worship and will also allow the communities to come together.

ALBANIA

Orphan Sponsorship

343 orphans are being sponsored from in and around Tirana. £25 being paid to each orphan on monthly basis.

Teacher Sponsorship A monthly salary is being paid to 14 teachers and 2 scholars who are providing a free Islamic education to children in poor communities.

Islamic Books Free Islamic literature which will be provided to 14,000 Families for the about Islam.

BANGLADESH

ROHINGYA (IDP CAMPS BANGLADESH)

Nearly 700,000 Rohingya refugees have fled to Bangladesh from Myanmar over the past few weeks, with numbers increasing every day. Ummah Welfare Trust is providing is assistance to thousands of families in the refugee camps in Cox’s bazar.

Orphan Sponsorship 200 Rohingya Orphans are currently being supported with monthly cash payments to help facilitate their resettlement

Widows Sponsorship

1300 Widows are currently being supported under this project to provide and for their daily needs. They will each receive BDT 1000 monthly.

Cooking Fuel 7547 Rohingya families are being provided LPG cooking fuel on a monthly basis. Once they run out they are allowed a refill, once per month. This fuel is much safer than providing fuel logs etc.

BOSNIA

School Support This project supports the Educational Centre in Bosnia. Eight teachers are employed. The Centre currently has 162 students each provided with Islamic educational classes for children and adults and is the only one in Mostar.

It is a very much needed project to maintain the spiritual well fare and education of the Muslim communities.

Financial Assistance

This is regular programme providing financial assistance to the poor people in

Bosnia, 72 beneficiaries benefit from this programme annually.

BURMA – Myanmar UWT has now restarted their humanitarian relief efforts in Myanmar

Orphan Sponsorship 150 Orphans are currently being supported in Ayerwady, Yangon and Bago regions with monthly cash payments to help with their day to day needs

Teacher Sponsorship 200 Teachers are being supported under this project to provide education for the local communities in 12 villages around Yangon.

ARAKAN (IDP CAMPS) Financial Assistance 970 Rohingya families who are residing in the IDP camps in Arakan, will be receiving a one-time payment of £20 each to meet their most urgent needs

MAKTAB SUPPORT UWT are funding a Maktab and Masjid in the Sittewe camp. The project objectives are to provide Islamic educational services to the Muslims residing in these camps.

GERMANY

Islamic Educational Centre UWT is supporting the running costs of a Madrasah, now in to its second year in Hanover. There was a great need to have an Islamic establishment to serve the local Muslim populations as the locals were greatly struggling with securing funding to establish the Islamic centre

INDIA

Ulema Financial Assistance

This year Ummah Welfare Trust has embarked upon a One-million-pound cash

distribution programme in order to alleviate the hardships that are being faced by

The Ulema who are teaching in Makhtab’s across India.

They have been underpaid and undervalued for a long time. Many are living with

crippling and unsustainable debt.

7641 Ulema along with their families will benefit significantly from the cash grant

programmes.

Masjid Construction UWT are currently building 2 Masjids, one in Delhi in which approximately 200

worshippers will benefit. The second in West Bengal approximately 275

worshippers will benefit from the masjid build

.

Food Aid UWT are funding the provision of food for Deoband Waqf. The Institute caters for 2700 students who are boarding and are from predominately from poor backgrounds. The provision of food will help maintain high standards of health.

Teacher Sponsorship 301 Teachers are being supported via a monthly sponsorship programme in Gujarat and various other regions across India.

Hifz Sponsorship 1080 Hifz students are being sponsored via a monthly sponsorship programme to assist them in completing the memorisation of the holy Quran.

Orphan Sponsorship 350 Orphans are currently being sponsored in Jammu & Kashmir and around the Delhi region with monthly cash payments to help with their day to day needs

Water Hand pumps 4,200 water hand are currently being installed in locations across West Bengal and Assam to provide clean, safe drinking water to the local poor populations.

Cataract Operations 735 beneficiaries will undergo cataract operations and camps will be organised in different parts of Delhi NCR, and all the patients are poor and this simple operation will improve their quality of life greatly.

Dialysis Treatment

Life saving dialysis treatments will be administered to individuals who are in dire

need for this treatment, this will cover the treatment plan of the beneficiaries.

Ummah Girls Academy

Ummah Girls Academy is being constructed in West Bengal and will cater for 200

poor and vulnerable girls from the West Bengal region. The girls will be boarding

on a full-time basis and will receive both Islamic and Modern education

Widow Sponsorship

This is a new programme where we are supporting 100 vulnerable widows in

West Bengal by providing a monthly sponsorship allowance of £30 per month to

support them in meeting their day to day needs.

Financial Assistance for Widows: This is a new programme where we are supporting 500 vulnerable widows in Assam by providing a Cash allowance of £120 (approx.) per quarter to support them in meeting their day to day needs.

Financial Assistance for Disabled People: This is financial assistance project for physically disabled poor people of rural area in Assam, India. Each beneficiary will receive cash INR 24,000 and total of 500 beneficiary will be supported in this project

Student Scholarships: There are 3 different projects in which 370 poor students form rural areas have been given scholarships to attend further / higher education and training for entry test of engineering and medical institutes.

House Construction: In this project total of 120 houses will be built in Assam and West Bengal for poor teachers, currently these teachers are living in sheds which is not safe at all specially in rainy season, these houses will provide them privacy and basic facilities to uplift their living standards.

Medical assistance Emergency Medical Assistance programme. The programmes beneficiaries are selected form the poor, disabled and the ulema. Cash grants will be given dependent on the medical need of the individuals and based on the doctor’s assessments for treatments of the individual.

Solar Panel for Makatib and Poor Teachers: In this program total of 100 solar panels will be installed, 50 in unaided Makatib and 50 solar panels will be installed in poor Teachers houses to provide electricity

Toilet Blocks In this project total of 100 toilet blocks will be built to provide clean sanitation system for unaided Madaris in Assam, India.

Upcoming Projects in India - Galvanized iron sheets will be distributed for cyclone-affected

homes. - House renovation project for cyclone effected houses - Financial assistance will be provided to help victims of Delhi Riot

Kashmir

Widows sponsorship

A total of 136 Widows benefit from this programme. They will receive PKR 18,000

to assist them in the day to day needs.

Orphan Sponsorship

A total of 270 Orphans benefit and are being sponsored. This aid will assist them and ease them in their daily lives.

Ulema Financial Assistance:

85 Beneficiaries (Ulemas) benefit from this initiative. They will receive a total of Rs 104,700 over the course of the year. This will help them greatly as some are unemployed or on low incomes.

MACEDONIA

Teacher Sponsorship 12 teachers are being funded to teach Islamic education to the local populations in Macedonia.

PAKISTAN

Cataract Surgeries

2,250 beneficiaries will undergo cataract operations in Vehari, Multan, Punjab province of Pakistan and all the patients are poor and this simple operation will improve their quality of life.

Masjid construction 37 small and 7 large masjids have now been completed. 10 small Masjids are currently underway.

Well construction So far 439 small & 300 large wells have been completed out of total 533 small & 710 large wells respectively. The remaining 94 small wells are under construction in Sindh region while 250 large wells are under construction in Sindh & Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Wells maintenance During this project, 90 water wells been repaired in KPK, 05 in Punjab and 102 in Sindh which will allow the local communities to access clean and safe water on long-term basis.

Medical Aid Health-care services been provided to 1,580 needy patients of district Swabi and Nowshera while 170 Wheelchairs had been distributed among the disabled people.

Housing Construction 57 houses have been completed out of total 66 houses while the remaining 09 houses are under construction in KPK.

Income generating project (IGP) To date 25 Rickshaws have been distributed, more are to be distributed this will take place after the Covid 19 restrictions ease in the country.

Teachers Sponsorship Total of 471 Teachers will sponsored under this project. Each will receive a monthly stipend of PKR 8,000.

Hifz Sponsorship

1074 Hifz students will benefit from this programme, In shaa Allah once they have qualified they will go onto benefit their families and the wider community.

Orphan Sponsorship

A total of 1300 Orphans benefit and are being sponsored across the country. This aid will assist them and ease them in their daily live.

Food Aid

Procurement of sugar, cooking oil, White chickpeas and Rice will be received by the coming week. We will then start packing and the distribution of food packs.

Widows Sponsorship

A total of 224 Widows benefit from this programme. They will receive PKR 18,000 to assist them in the day to day needs.

PHILIPPINES

Dawah Centre A dawah centre providing Islamic education for 532 children. Madrasah classes are offered free of charge.

Orphan Sponsorship

Ummah Welfare Trust continues to provide on a monthly basis, sponsorship support to 250 orphans.

Hifdh Sponsorship A monthly sponsorship support of £25 was provided to 150 huffadh.

Teacher Sponsorship A monthly stipend of £30 each is provided to 172 teachers supporting students with Islamic education in the rural areas.

SPAIN

Islamic Educational Centre UWT is supporting the running costs a newly established Madrasah in Seville. The Centre provides Islamic educational classes for children 0 – 15 years old and is the only one in Centre in Seville. It is a very much needed project to maintain the spiritual well fare and education of the Muslim communities with in Seville and also the surrounding areas.

SRI LANKA

Orphan Sponsorship Monthly grants of £25 are being provided to 80 orphans in Sri Lanka

Teacher Sponsorship Under this project we will provide financial support for 50 teachers who will be supervising around 75 Makhtab across Sri Lanka between them.

United Kingdom

Covid19 Cases:

Under this project we helped individuals who were struggling financially due to lockdown in country, we helped beneficiaries on the basis of their needs (Rent and bills etc.) by providing cash.

Masajid Support:

Under this project UWT will help small masajid across the UK struggling to pay bills, rent and maintenance expenses etc

Malawi Masjid Construction Construction of Five Masaajid in the Mangochi, Zomba and Rumphi regions are reaching completion, with 6 Additional Masaajid scheduled to start in the coming weeks

Water Wells The drilling of a batch of 114 wells in rural central Malawi is currently ongoing.

House Construction

Construction of 30 homes has been completed. With construction of a further 30 starting over the next few weeks.

School Support Over twenty-five Makhtab’s and nurseries are being fully subsidised to ensure that hundreds of children can learn for free.

Medical Clinics Rural clinics in Katema and Makenjera are providing health check-ups and medicines to thousands of mothers and children.

Teacher Sponsorship Teachers at a large rural madrassah are being reimbursed to ensure hundreds of children can continue to study.

Ethiopia Orphan Sponsorship Monthly grants of £25 is given to each orphan. This project is still ongoing despite covid-19 state of emergency. This grant supports the orphans with their basic day to day needs.

Ulama Financial Assistance 1300 Ulama received cash assistance of approximately £246 each.

Teacher Sponsorship Teachers of rural Madrasas are being reimbursed to ensure that hundreds of students can study for free.

Income Generating Project Over 600 Somali IDP families located in Ethiopia’s Sawena District received aid of four goats in order to help them generate income to support their families.

Mozambique Masjid Construction Construction on behalf of UWT’s late field officer, Marhoom Basharat, is currently underway in Beira, Mozambique

Gambia Tahfidh Mattresses & Prayer Mats UWT is carrying country wide distribution of mattresses and prayer mats to improve the living conditions of the boarding students across the country. UWT have distributed 2178 mattresses and 599 prayer mats to 184 different school in Kombo North District, The Gambia.

Hardship Assistance UWT helped half a dozen families in September with food, home repair, medical bills, rent and outstanding court fees.

Daru Sunnah, Banjul Quran memorisation school for 736 boys and girls, from which 133 are boarding. UWT sponsors all costs including meals for boarders and salaries for 38 teachers.

Kunting Islamic School, Kunting 50 tahfiz students, all of whom are boarding. Islamic primary education for 216 students. UWT sponsors all costs for both the tahfiz and the primary education, this includes boarding meals and salaries of all tahfiz teachers.

Masjid Construction The construction of a large Masjid is nearing completion the Kombo region.

School Uniforms UWT is providing 2 sets of school uniforms to 8,490 students from 13 schools. All the clothing is currently being sewn

Sierra Leone Makeni Centre, Makeni Quran centre with 70 tahfidh students, of which 50 are boarding, and 500 students in Islamic primary education. UWT sponsors all costs including meals for boarders and salaries of 19 teachers.

Ilmo Dhikr, Freetown Islamic nursery and primary school for 202 students, boys and girls. The school is fully sponsored by UWT including the salaries of 19 teachers.

Ansarul Islam, Freetown Islamic secondary education for 600 students with an additional 150 tahfiz students. UWT sponsors the salaries of 31 teachers.

Masjid Construction Construction of 20 new Masaajid has commenced with an additional large Masjid nearing completion. Wells are also being built for some of the Masaajid.

Water Wells Construction of 20 community wells is nearing completion.

Teacher Sponsorship 38 Islamic teachers and 2 senior teachers/monitors shall be sponsored to undertake the Islamic education programme in the new Masjids that have been built in Sierra Leone.

School Construction This is a school construction project which commenced in August 2020. Ilmo Dhikr school facilities will be expanded to facilitate for extra students and increase capacity to better serve the local community.

Covid-19 Masjid Support

127,500 reusable Face Masks will be distributed at four major population centres, Western Urban, Western Rural, Bo and Makeni. 4575 Veronica Bucket’s will be distributed to 1525 Masaajid around Sierra Leone.

HAITI Medical Clinic Support

UWT has funded the Hope Medical clinic in Chalon, Miragoane, Haiti, for several years now and are still supporting the valuable work this clinic provides for the poor locals - Each month hundreds of patients benefit from the use of this clinic. The Clinic has been operational since it reopened in July after a nationwide lockdown.

IRAQ Orphan Sponsorship

Monthly grants of £34 is given to each orphan. This project is still ongoing despite covid- 19 lockdowns in some areas of Iraq. This grant supports the orphans with their basic day to day needs.

Vocational Training Centre

The training centre was open throughout September despite covid-19 restrictions in Erbil. A further 20 learners have acquired sewing skills training which will be a source of income for them going forward and help them live an independent life. Also, these trainees were supplied with a sewing machine at the end of the training period.

Financial Assistance

In September 2020 UWT implemented a Financial Assistance project in support of IDP in camps in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah. Each beneficiary was provided with a one-off support payment of $500. In total 4,875 families were support in the project.

Hygiene Kits

To combat the surge in COVID infections UWT has started a Hygiene kit distribution project. Masks produced by the graduates of the vocational training centre are sewing 114,000 masks. These will be distributed along with other items including hand gels and soap to 11,400 families.

PALESTINE Orphan Sponsorship

Ummah Welfare Trust is still providing the monthly sponsorship support of £25 to 1,963 orphans. This payment allows these orphans to fulfil their basic day to day needs and also to continue with their education.

Widow Sponsorship

UWT have continued to provide a monthly sponsorship support of £30 to 120 windows. This payment helps the hard-pressed widows with meeting some of the essential everyday expenses.

Hifdh Sponsorship

A monthly sponsorship support of £15 was paid to each of the 731 hifdh students and £193 for each of the 38 hifdh teachers.

Teacher sponsorship

A monthly stipend of £200 each is provided to 3 female teachers supporting 20 students with essential Islamic education.

Water Distribution

UWT have established a regular water distribution project providing regular supply of water to 700 families. In addition to this, many schools, masajid and 4 hospitals receive a daily supply of clean water for their day to day needs.

Water Filtration plant

Due to the chronic shortage of clean drinking water, the poor and the vulnerable are facing extra difficulties in their daily lives. As result, many children are

suffering from skin diseases as well as other related health conditions. UWT have installed a water filtration plant to help with the supply shortages for the besieged people of Gaza.

House Repair Grants

Ummah Welfare Trust is providing cash grants for poor Gazans to undertake repairs to their properties. Phase 2 will allow a further half a million pounds to be spent in helping beneficiaries repair their homes.

COVID Financial Assistance

Due to increased infections of COVID severe restrictions have been placed on movement in Gaza. This has led to hardship for families who rely on daily labour. Ummah Welfare Trust is providing cash grants for poor Gazans for 300ILS (£70) to buy essentials during this challenging time.

Food Vouchers

Due to severe poverty and food insecurity in the Gaza strip Ummah Welfare Trust have started a programme to support 270 vulnerable families. Each family receives £40 to purchase their essentials needs on a monthly basis.

Debt Repayment

The continuing siege in Gaza has resulted in 90% of its people living in poverty. As a result of this turmoil, many Gazans have had to resort to borrowing in order to meet the needs of their children and families during these harsh conditions. As a result of this they have become debtors.

Every debtor must spend 21 days a year in prison on 3 separate occasions throughout the year. This project will help relieve 750 families of their debt to ensure they do not go back to prison and can support their families who depend on them.

SYRIA Orphan Sponsorship

Ummah Welfare Trust continued to provide monthly sponsorship support of £35 to 3000 orphans in and around Idlib.

Injured Families Support

A monthly support of $50 is provided to 753 families helping them meet their basic needs.

Baby Milk Distribution

The displacement in Syria of a large number of people has led to immense suffering for new mothers and new born babies. UWT has been providing Formula Milk for babies through local medical clinics and has continued with this much needed programme.

Bread Distributions

The refugees inside Syria are living in overcrowded conditions, with little food and not much space to store raw materials. UWT has started to deliver 2 packs of bread per day to at least 6,800 families daily to ensure they have sufficient food.

Medical Equipment

With the ongoing turmoil in Syria, the need for medical equipment is great. A survey conducted of hospitals identified a need for a Gastrointestinal Endoscopy machine. These items were delivered to hospitals across Syria. This device was purchased and delivered to a hospital in north of Syria.

Turkey Uyghur refugee’s financial assistance

UWT has been financially supporting the vulnerable Uyghur refugees living in Istanbul, Keysori and a few other cities in Turkey. Most of the Uyghurs are in great need and do not have a regular income. Families receive cash or bank payment ranging from 2000 TL to 5000 TL dependent on the size and need of their families.

Yemen

Emergency Food Aid The ongoing conflict and instability in the country has resulted in one of the greatest manmade disasters of modern time. To meet the levels of food insecurity UWT has delivered food packs to 3,740 families.

Water distribution Due to the ongoing conflict and instability in the country, the greatest need for people after food is clean water. In view of this need, we have started a water distribution project to the poor neighbourhoods and families which will benefit over 360 families.
