Corporate Strategy - Concept to Execution by Mr. Saravanan Ramdoss, Co-

Founder & Chief Strategy Officer, Tricely on September 1, 2015

Mr. Saravanan Ramdoss, Co-Founder & Chief Strategy Officer, Tricely, delivered a Guest Lecture to II MBA

students(Batch 2014-16) on September 1, 2015 as part of the Strategic Management Course. He talked on

"Corporate Strategy - Concept to Execution". The session was interesting and looked at the strategy planning and

implementation at Tricely which is a consulting firm build on a very unique business model. There are 4 phases -

Needs Analysis, Benchmarking, Concept generation/ Selection and Prototyping, testing and roll out. They have 4

teams that work in these 4 phases and when 1 phase is happening with one client, another phase is happening at

another client and the 4 teams keep rotating between different clients and the cycle repeats. Depending on

which client they are servicing and their location, the team’s logistics and accommodation are looked after by the

client and the employees of Tricely live out of their suitcases and are always on the move from 1 client to the

other. Thus Tricely does not invest on real estate which gives them the flexibility to work from any geographical

location across the world. This guest lecture was coordinated by Dr. Mary Cherian Professor & Centre Head CoM

He interacted on the Need for IFRS and its present position of IFRS in India and World over. He also elaborated on the key differences between IFRS and IAS. Visioning for Synetics Automation Solutions Pvt Ltd on October 7, 2015

A consulting assignment on

Designing and Developing HR

Systems for Synetics

Automation Solutions Pvt Ltd,

a Robotics and Automation

startup was initiated on

September 15, 2015. The

assignment will be carried out

in three phases till mid of

November 2015. The first

phase was to understand the

company’s current business,

their functioning and their

processes followed. The next

agenda was in helping the

company to evolve their strategic plans. A Visioning Exercise was held on October 7, 2015 where the directors of

the company and a team of employees jointly with the guidance of the KCT BS faculty team worked together to

identify the vision, mission, values and strategic thrust areas for their company. The session was facilitated by

Prof. S. Swaminathan, Head CoCR. The outcome of the visioning exercise shall be used as the foundation on

which the ensuing phases of the consulting assignment will be structured. This consultancy assignment was

coordinated by CoH, under Dr. Kirupa Priyadarsini M, Associate Professor & Centre Head, CoH.

Training

Soft skill Training for Marketing Executives of India Post on October 9, 2015

Centre of Marketing, conducted a one day training for the Marketing Executives of India Post. The training

program was inaugurated by Prof. S. Swaminathan, Head CoCR on October 9, 2015. The training program was

carried out with an objective of equipping the participants to face the present dynamic market trend with new

selling techniques. The training platform educated the participants on various tools to manage the customers &

services confidently. The workshop had four modules which included Product Positioning and Marketing

Strategies, Transaction Analysis, and Social Media Marketing. The course content was developed by KCT

Business School in consultation with the India Post Authorities. The training sessions were conducted by the

faculty team of CoM- Dr. Mary Cherian Professor & Centre Head, Dr.B.Poongodi, Ms. Latha.A, and Dr. P. Nalini ,

Assistant Professors’ CoM assisted by the students. The program was coordinated by Ms. A.Latha, Assistant

Professors’ under the guidance of Dr. Mary Cherian, Professor & Centre Head – Marketing.

Tally ERP 9.0 by Sri Krishna I- Tech and Management Solutions Pvt.

Ltd, Coimbatore, from October 14, 2015

Centre of Finance initiated Tally ERP 9.0 Certification Program for 40 hours scheduled from October 2015 -

December 2015. The knowledge partner for the Certification Program is Sri Krishna I- Tech and Management

Solutions Pvt. Ltd, Coimbatore, authorized franchise of Tally Academy. Forty one students of batch 2015-17

registered for the certification program. The program will be conducted in two modules, evening module and

week end module. Classes for evening module commenced on October 14, 2015. The program will cover the

basic tally modules of Book Keeping and Accounting Concepts, Accounting, Inventory, Financial and Voucher

management in Tally 9.0 ERP software. M.Abirami (Batch 2015-17) is the student coordinator and

Workshop

Japanese Anime & Manga Art by Mr. Bharath Murthy, Animation Film

A workshop on "Japanese Anime &

Manga art" was arranged under the

aegis of the General Interest course

called Film Appreciation for 29

students of I MBA who have enrolled

for the course on September 12,

2015. Mr. Bharath Murthy,

Animation Film Director & Comics

Author, Ass. Prof., FTII, Pune was the

resource person. It was a one day

workshop where a film on the Manga

Art was screened and its influence on

animation was discussed. This was

followed by a brief interaction on

Manga and its culture in Japan. A screening of a Japanese animation film was also done and students explored by

doing a comic strip by themselves. The main objective of the workshop was to introduce students to the history

of animation and the profoundness in the simplicity of the art. Students understood the evolution and role of

animation in art. This workshop was coordinated by Dr. Mary Cherian, Professor & Centre Head, CoM

.The objective of the workshop

was to provide knowledge and

skill to buy and sell shares in

the Axis Direct Share Online

Trading Platform. The intended

learning outcome of the

workshop was that the

participants should have executed trades using the Axis Direct Online Share Trading Platform with the Online

Contract Note submitted as a documentary proof. Ms. S.Chitra, Director, Annamalai Capital Services (P) Ltd,

Coimbatore was the resource person for the workshop. 28 Students from II MBA (Batch 2014-16), attended the

workshop. The facilitator demonstrated the procedure to buy and sell shares with short cut key, usage of menus,

view of executed trades, etc. Participants actively interacted with the facilitators and executed the buy and sell

trades as an outcome of the workshop. Mr. A. Senthil Kumar, Assistant Professor (SRG).CoF was the faculty

coordinator for the workshop. The student coordinators for the workshop were Boggarapu Nikhil, Masi

Periyannan and Akash Jaiswal of batch 2014-16.

Workshop of Banking Instruments by Mr. Jagadeesan, Assistant Manager (Retd), State Bank of India on October 19, 2015

On October 19, 2015, a workshop

was organized on Banking

Instruments. The workshop aimed

at providing practical learning on

Banking Instruments to batch 2015-

17 students. Mr. Jagadeesan,

Assistant Manager (Retd), State

Bank of India, the facilitator helped

students in understanding the

utility of banking instruments. The

participants were given various

forms like pay-in-slip, Challans and

cheques and were taught how to fill

them. He also described the dos and

don’ts in bank transactions. He clarified all doubts pertaining to availing loans, the need to appoint nominee,

procedure to claim the amount of deceased account holder etc. Discussions and clarifications on various types of

cheques such as CTS, transaction handling methods and procedures to be followed in transfer of bank accounts ,

loss of ATM card, self-cheques, necessity of PAN card, money laundering, KYC forms, causes for cheque bounce

etc was done through an interactive session. Nithivika, Harshita and Manoj of Batch 2014-16, coordinated this

Reality Learning

Activity based learning on Elasticity of Demand on September 30, 2015

Students of Batches J1 & 5 (Batch 2015-17) had hands on learning by doing an activity to learn elasticity of

demand. The students brought the real

feel of a market and exhibited consumer

behaviour in purchase decisions and

price negotiations. This experiential

Outbound training, at LEAP Academy October 4-10, 2015

Students of Batch 2015-17 attended a three day outbound training at LEAP academy, Karamadai

(Mathampalayam) from October 4-10, 2015. The main objective of the program was to unleash the potential of

young students to imbibe life skills. The program had six major real time exercises which mainly focused on

teamwork, team bonding, communication, leadership, time management, problem solving, crisis management,

decision making and personal development. The deliverables of the program is to reflect on students’ team

skills, increased collaboration, sharing of common vision and values and team spirit. Activities included high

rope course, dynamic obstacle course, human web, A-frame, shapes & colours and tyre maze.

Experiential learning for Business Statistics on October 10, 2015

Students of J4 (Batch 2015-17)

were involved on an experiential

activity of Tower Building using

playing cards. This activity has

been conducted with the purpose

of Introducing concepts of

Hypothesis Testing and T Test. 8

volunteers were identified as

samples and they were

encouraged to construct tower

using 15 cards. The participants

used their creative ideas to

complete the task at the earliest.

Time taken by each student to

complete the given task was

recorded by the observers. The

time consumed to accomplish the

task varies from Minimum 3

minutes to Maximum 20 minutes

with the average mean of 11 minutes. The data collected through this experiment was used to execute one

sample & Independent t sample test. The complete activity was coordinated by the course facilitator Ms.Latha.A,

September 2015 on October 14, 2015. The session was

ANGADI – The Shopping Carnival on October 16-17, 2015

The shopping carnival ‘Angadi 2015’ was organized

by KCT Business School students on October 16 &

17, 2015 at Kumaraguru College of Technology,

Coimbatore. Angadi is a student initiative organized

by the Student Association of KCT Business School.

Angadi gives an opportunity to budding

entrepreneurs of KCT Business School to strategize,

plan and execute their small businesses in the

campus. Students had 41 stalls selling more than

500 product categories and 10,000 product items.

The stalls included cars, clothes, accessories,

footwear, candid photo centre, tattoos, fortune teller

and a variety of eateries. The event was sponsored

by JSW and co-sponsored by Nexa, HDFC Bank, State Bank of Hyderabad, KVB Bank and Anand Rathi Securities

Ltd. There was an overwhelming interest shown by the students, faculties and IT employees and there were

more than 8,000 footfalls on both days.

Smt.J.Mohanasundare, Managing Director of Sharp Electrodes Pvt. Ltd, inaugurated Angadi 2015 and said, “This

is a very impressive show and record breaking trade fair with the highest number of foot falls and exhibiting

product categories by students which was not seen ever before”. Mr.M.Shanmuga Velayudham, Vice President,

Cluster Head of Tamil Nadu 2, HDFC Bank was the special guest who discussed the art of selling and importance

of exhibiting the entrepreneurial skills for today’s managers. This event was conducted to demonstrate the

entrepreneurial and leadership qualities of the students of KCT Business School and also to accomplish their

goals as a team. This made the students to understand the current market trends and promotional strategies to

be followed thereby gaining the competitive advantage. This is

Bank Visit and CFO visit presentation on October 19, 2015

Students of Batch 2014-16

visited various banks to know

the operational part of banks

during the month of October

2015. The event was organised

for finance students .12 teams

visited KVB, Indian Bank, South

Indian Bank, Coimbatore

District Central Co-operative

Bank, Repco Bank, HDFC Bank,

ICICI Bank, Canara Bank,

Federal Bank, City Union Bank

etc. The students presented

their learning’s which was

evaluated by a panel

constituting Dr. V.R.Nedunchezhian Professor & Centre Head, Mr. Senthil Kumar. A, Assistant Professor (SRG),

Ms.Mohanamani.P, Assistant Professor, CoF and Mr. Senthil Kumar.N, Branch Head, Repco Bank.

2 student teams interviewed CFO of Roots Company and JSW. The students interviewed the CFO of the above

leading companies and collected data for 31 relevant questions. They made their presentation on October 19,

2015. Pavithra Vanshi- Finance Forum Coordinator and Syed Parvez coordinated this event. Ms.S.Sangeetha

Debate session on October 19, 2015

A debate on the topic “Release

of New License to Corporates –

A welcome RBI?” was

conducted on October 19,

2015 for batch 2014-16. Lots

of insights were obtained

along with the positives and

negatives of licensing to new

payment banks. The current

status of new entrants and its

future effects in banking

industry were discussed.

Students spoke for the topic

and counter argued against the

topic. Prof. Swaminathan. S

Head CoCR and Mr. Vijayaraghavan , Head – Training of Sakthi Finance Limited were the moderators for the

session. The Team which spoke against the topic bagged the prize. Pavithra Vanshi, Aarthi & Ramya of Batch

Webinar on Entrepreneurship by Prof. Rajeev Roy on October 10, 2015

The Centre for Entrepreneurship organized a webinar by Prof. Rajeev Roy on October 10, 2015 .The topic for the

session was “Should I worry about my business model or business plan?” 50 students from MBA and

Engineering attended the same. The Webinar was organized for the students to introduce them to Business

Model / plan and its importance for a Startup. It was a great opportunity for students to listen to a renowned

professor in Entrepreneurship education. Students learnt the basic components of a business plan and steps to

develop one for their idea. It was organized by Lakshmi Meera BL, Assistant Professor & Centre Head CoE

Business Mantra’s For Women Entrepreneurs on October 29, 2015.Dr.Radhika Meenakshi Shankar, Startup

Consultant for MSME’s from Hyderabad deliberated a intensive workshop on various business challenges faced

by women entrepreneurs and provided

Demo campaign on PASSPORT on October 7, 2015

A Demo campaign of ‘PASSPORT’- an international reference multi-disciplinary database has been launched for

KCT BS faculty and students. The offer was solicited from M/s. Euro Monitor International Bangalore. The first

demo session was initiated and approved through video conferencing on October 7, 2015 and it is made

available at present for three weeks in the campus. The database, as it is shall be handy for new age researchers

and serves as an alternative solution for Google search. The package is also expected to reflect research data,

articles and tweets about industry, global landscapes, economics and consumers across 80 countries. The demo

the workshop was to orient the

faculty members on quality

systems with special focus on

NBA accreditation. He

highlighted that among the

different accrediting agencies, NBA and AACSB -Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business are vital at

national and international level, respectively. The parameters and sub-parameters of NBA, viz., Organization’s

Mission, Governance & Leadership, Input (with 8 sub parameters), Process (with 8 sub parameters) and Output

(with 10 sub parameters) were presented in brief. The session ended with active interaction between the faculty

Demo session on Satellite Based Courses on October 20, 2015

A demo session on "Satellite Based Courses" was organized for KCTBS faculty on October 20, 2015. Mr. Nishant

of Live Tutor gave a live demo explaining the technical requisites and conduct of on-line courses. The demo

included how to best connect teachers and students, in a two way interactive platform using internet, Integrate

Black Board, PowerPoint, Audio, Video Teaching, Monitored, measured evaluation using analytics model, Learn

multiple courses from a single location, Learn anytime (Video on Demand Solutions).During the live demo Mr.

Antony from Chennai also joined the live conference and gave useful information on integrating Moodle with

Live Tutoring. The session was found useful in gaining knowledge on offering courses on-line with lecturing

mode and interaction mode. Dr.S.Jaisankar Associate Professor CoO, coordinated the program.

Conference /Workshops Attended

Dr.Hemanalini R, Assistant Professor(SRG) CoH , attended NIPM's 34th National Conference on

"Winnovate HR for Business and People Aspirations" on October 8-10, 2015.The theme of the

conference was about taking time to Pause, Ponder, Predict and Prepare and the sub themes were

Preparedness of HR to Synthesize changing customer expectations, business dynamics, disruptive

technologies and people aspirations. Topics also included role of HR in digitalized world and impact of

Social Media, evolving next generational leaders, reverse mentoring and learning, HR Analytic for

Business transformation. The conference was organized by the NIPM Coimbatore Chapter.

A.Senthil Kumar, Assistant Professor (SRG) attended a Webinar on Outcome-based Education and NBA

Accreditation on October 8, 2015. The session was facilitated by Dr. N.J.Rao, Dr. Rajanikanth, Academic

Experts and attended by 36 participants pan India, online. The facilitators provided synoptic view on

how an institution should prepare their Engineering Programmes for the accreditation by National

Research Forum Meeting on October 17, 2015 The research forum for the month of October

was held on October 17, 2015. The bytes of

Knowledge session was facilitated by

Dr.Ramkumar of PSG Institute of Management,

Coimbatore on G Power Analysis. G*Power 3 is a

software for performing statistical power

analysis. It is particularly useful for applied

researchers who need to perform a power

analysis as part of their research. The software

is free, runs on Windows, and provides a user

friendly GUI. The research scholars and faculty

members were given an introduction to

determination of sample sizes using the software and

how they have to report the same for doctoral work.

The research scholars presented their progress post

the session. This meeting was coordinated by Dr.

Kirupa Priyadarsini M, Associate Professor & Centre

Dr.V.Kannan, Professor & Center Head CoO presented a paper entitled 'A

Study on Manufacturing Process Improvement in a Foundry Based at

Coimbatore' which has been adjudged as the Best Research Paper at

the ‘6th International Conference on Banking, Finance, Business &

Technology for Sustaining Economic Development in Global Market’

conducted by Sairam Institute of Management Studies, Chennai on October 9,

2015.

Student Association Inaugural on October 13, 2015 The mission of KCT.BS Student Association

is to provide opportunities for students to

pursue their personal, professional and

academic goals. To enhance their

educational experience, students are

encouraged to participate in group

activities that allow them to develop their

inter-personal and professional skills, learn

leadership and organizing skills, and also

serve the community. The premier

antecedent of our student association is to

involve and evolve in all aspects.

The Student Association inaugural

ceremony was held on October 13, 2015. It

was an honor to have Shri. T. Rajkumar,

Executive Director, Sakthi Group Textile

Division as our chief guest. The presidential

address by Shri. Shankar Vanavarayar and

our chief guest address reinstated the

above mentioned mission. Shri. Rajkumar

started his address by telling that just

learning will not help an M.B.A graduate. He

advised the students to do a SWOT and

understand their path. They have two

choices with an M.B.A degree, professional

career and entrepreneurship. He quoted examples about people from his generation who are shining in their

career in the above two options. He also gave hints to students on how to go ahead, once they decide on their

path. 'Imagination, creation and execution' should be the mantra for success, whatever the path they choose was

his closing remarks. This program was coordinated by Ms. Priya Dharshini. A, student association coordinator

along with the office bearers of the student association.

Finance Forum

Activity on Initial Public offer on October 12, 2015

The Finance Forum initiated a

new activity for Batch 2014-16

students. The objective of this

event was to experience real

time learning on Issue

Management. This would

facilitate the business to raise

money from public and perform

their operations. Once the

company generates profit, the

shareholders can enjoy the

dividend sharing. After a

serious brainstorming session,

the Issue regulator was named

as FISCA (Financial Investment

and Stock Control Authority). A proposal for fresh issue was raised by Munch Box team. Through the issue

Rs.20000 of funds comprising 200 lots was raised through the fresh issue. The issue had a price band of Rs.12.5

to Rs.15. A live show of book building process, the subscription of shares at preferred price was done on October

12, 2015. Students and Faculty of KCTBS actively participated in the subscription of the shares. The issue was

subscribed 1.25 times and turned to be quite successful. Later the share was allotted in pro rata basis and funds

were collected. The share certificates were issued to shareholders on October 13, 2015. The amount was given

to Munch box to put their stall in Angadi event. On October 28,2015 funds were settled with the shareholders.

The event was coordinated by Pavithra Vanshi- Finance Forum Coordinator, Madhan Kumar and Suraj of Batch

2014-16. Ms.S.Sangeetha Assistant Professor (SRG), CoF was the faculty coordinator.

Save Smart Finance Expo on October 16-17, 2015

On October 16-17, 2015, Finance forum promoted a new event of promoting financial products under the banner “SAVE SMART”. As part of this, 5 stalls were booked by different financial institutions to promote their finance products. HDFC, KVB, SBH, Anandrathi Financial Services displayed and promoted their products during Angadi. The event was coordinated by Pavithra Vanshi- Finance Forum Coordinator and Abbidha of batch 2014-16

coordinated this event. Ms.S.Sangeetha Assistant Professor (SRG), CoF was the faculty coordinator.

SPECIAL DAYS

World Standards Day on October 13, 2015

As part of the World Standards Day Celebrations, operations specialisation students of 2014-16 batch visited

industries and service organizations of repute in Coimbatore (IndoShell Cast, Texmo Precision Castings, Best

Engineers, Mc Donalds, Sri Kannapiram Mills, to name a few) on October 13, 2015 with an objective to

understand the product / process standards being adopted by them and to acquire practical insights of the

various standards applicable to the industry. During the visit, students had an opportunity to study standards

like ISO/ DIN/ BIS/ QMS/ EMS being followed for their product / process and their relevance. A presentation on

the various standards being followed by the industry visited was made on October 14, 2015. It was a great

practical experience for the students to visit industries and learn about the standards and their importance.

Mid Term Test, Batch 2014-16

The Midterm test for semester III was conducted for II MBA students of batch 2014- 2016 from October 01 to 09, 2015. A total of 164 students appeared for the test. Seating arrangements and conduct of test was organized by the faculty exam coordinator Ms. Mohanamani.P, Assistant Professor, CoF assisted by office staffs Mr. Paulraj and Mr. Krishnamoorthy.

Mid Term Test Batch, 2015-17

Mid Term Test for I Semester for I MBA students of batch 2015-2017 was conducted from October 27 to 31, 2015. A total of 180 students appeared for the test. Students of batch 2014-16 participated in ZOHO Corp placement drive on September 22, 2015 with a total

participation of 51 students and 2 students were selected for the post of Technical-Content Writer and

Technical-Support Engineer with a CTC of 4.6 lakhs. on September 29,2015 Colgate Palmolive drive was

organized by the college with a total participation of 75 students, for the post of Sales Team Leader with a

package of 3.25 lakhs CTC, 2 students were selected by the company.

In the month of October, Wildcraft had its recruitment drive on October 6, 2015 with 25 participants from the

college for the post of Corporate Manager and one student was selected with a salary package of 5 lakhs CTC.

Jaro Education drive took place on October 12, 2015, organized in the college with a participation of 38 students

and the final selection is yet to be completed. Naukri has initiated the placement process on October 19, 2015 a

total of 76 students applied and the first round of drive was conducted. Redington drive took place in the college

on October 26, 2015, 54 students applied for the job and 7 students were shortlisted and final results are yet to

be announced.

Students of finance specialization had the

in KPMG that took place on October 27, 5 students

Placement Training batch 2014-16 During the month of October regular training was conducted for batch 2014 in aptitude, group discussion and

interview skills. On October 10, 2015, a workshop on how to crack an aptitude test was conducted by Launchpad

for the whole day and shortcuts to crack the tests were discussed. This workshop was coordinated by Dr.

Gokilavani R, Lead Trainer

Case based discussion was conducted during the training session

on October 28, 2015, on different issues faced by corporate in their

day to day activity. Students were asked to arrive at different

strategies to provide solution for the corporate issues. The

strategies were discussed in a group and final solution was arrived.

Company specific training was conducted for Jaro and Redington

interview process. Centre for career counselling initiated student

driven training headed by Syed Parvez II MBA (Batch 2014-16) and

the activities conducted were Group discussion and debate on
