Large pickups and small cars took a bite out of the midsize segment in July, growing to 12% and 20% respectively. Other segments, such as luxury cars and CUVs also edged upward. Small cars, midsize cars and CUVs accounted for two-thirds (or 65%) of the market.

The luxury car segment edged up an entire percentage point to 16.4% share of the passenger car market in July. This ate away slightly at the midsize and small car segments, who pushed down to 80% from 82% the month before.

Year-to-date CUV sales have grown nearly 11% from July 2012, rising from 45% then to 50% of the light truck market today. Other segments within the light truck market remained steady for July, with minimal movement from June.

Light trucks led the market in July, breaking away from an even split with passenger cars that had been seen since early in the year.

Hybrid vehicles take rate rose slightly to 3.34% in April. Honda’s CNG vehicle added a few more units to its total this month with 264 in sales, pushing the 2013 total to nearly 700. Diesel sales remain steady with 37,500 units sold in 2013.

Hybrid sales were up nearly 14,000 over June, continuing a trend of major segment growth. EVs have also displayed more promising numbers with roughly 27,000 in sales for June, which is 5 times higher than the total units sold in all of 2012.
