PRESIDENTS REPORT

Hi Members,

Our last club event was our motorkhana at Ansell Park on the 10th of July where we had 28 entries, 8 of

which were representing LBMCCC. A nice day that started out not very dusty due to the rain a couple of

days before but as usual the dust came along as the sun dried out the disturbed soil but not as bad as it

has been. Unfortunately, the ladies driving the 180B only lasted 2 events each until the rattle became

more pronounced and they decided to park the car.

The next event on the club championship calendar is our LBMCCC motorkhana at Sydney Motorsport

Park on the skid pan on Saturday 10th September, hope to see you there to score more points in the club

and motorkhana championships. Don’t forget our go-karting social day on Sunday 18th September at

Wilberforce as we need to know numbers so please contact us if you intend to come.

All the best

Phil Whitaker

Devotions – September 2016 Introduction

We continue our series looking at the church, at how God sees his people, not just as a collection of individuals,

but as the pinnacle of his creation and the ultimate purpose of our being. This month we contrast God’s

wisdom in how he builds his church as against worldly wisdom.

The Reading 1 Cor 1:17

For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ

be emptied of its power. 18

For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power

of God. 19

For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.” 20

Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the

world? 21

For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we

preach to save those who believe. 22

For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, 23

but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling

block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24

but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of

God. 25

For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26

For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many

were of noble birth. 27

But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame

the strong; 28

God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29

so that

no human being might boast in the presence of God. 30

And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from

God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31

so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” (ESV)

The teaching

The world is not impressed by the message that the church brings. To the world, the message of the cross is

weak and foolish. If you were God how would you deal with the sinfulness and failings that separates us from

the holy God who created us? I bet you wouldn’t send your own son into the world and allow the religious and

secular leaders to inflict upon him the most humiliating, shameful and painful execution that the world has ever

devised. Whilst not many people openly scoff at the cross, there are not many people of standing in the world

that will say that its message is central to the future of the world – people such as Prime Ministers, CEOs,

school principals and so on. The message of the cross doesn’t say ‘You are wonderful’; it doesn’t applaud the

world’s own power; people can’t see its relevance.

God’s deliberate plan is that the wisdom of the world is incapable of reaching up to him. His plan, by the cross

of Jesus, the one truly sinless man, is to reach down to humanity. Salvation is not based on anything that we

can offer but only upon his grace. There is no place for human pride or boasting and God in his ‘foolishness’

uses the weak to put human wisdom down. Our boast is that we are ‘in Christ’. We belong to him because he

is great, kind, generous and loving, and we rejoice that in this we have become his wisdom. How wise are you?

The greatest wisdom is to acknowledge the need for a saviour, and that in his wisdom, God has given Christ to

save us.

To those who don’t have the attitude to receive it, the message of the cross is weak. But to those who are

willing to receive it, it is the power of God to transform lives both for this world and all eternity. It is not our

duty to evoke a response by changing the message. If the message seems foolish, that is the problem of the

listener. If it seems wonderful, that is the privilege of the listener. Our responsibility as members of the church

is to preach Christ crucified. We are to do it to the best of our ability, but we are to be totally dependent upon

God to use the message in people’s lives in his own wisdom.

Prayer

Father, thank you that in your grace and wisdom you call those who are weak into your kingdom and into your

body the church, and that you give us power to overcome sin in our lives in a way that the world can’t even

dream of.

Everyone loves a go-kart.

And everyone loves an Italian sausage.

Which is exactly why we are combining them for the next Lower Blue Mountains Christian Car Club social

day.

On Sunday the 18th

of September at 12:30 we will be meeting at the Indy 800 Go-kart track in Wilberforce for

some racing and a BBQ lunch.

The cost will be $55 for 30 minutes of racing.

Angelo has promised to provide the sausages. But you will need to bring any other food you wish to eat.

Please let Trevor (0420 513 063) me know if you will be coming ASAP so that we can provide numbers to the

Butterfly Farm.

I look forward to seeing you there,
