2. New EHC Plan Template

A New Education Health and Care Plan template

https://www.norfolk.gov.uk/children-and-families/send-local-offer/introduction-to-send/sen-support/ehc-plans

Was launched by Norfolk Children's Services in November 2017. The new style EHC plans are more user-friendly and easier to follow and understand. Alongside the new EHC plan template is a new Annual Review form for settings to use, a new Children and young person views and wishes to inform an Annual Review and a new combined Child and parent version. More information about the Annual Review process and associated documentation can be found on the Local Offer on the Annual Review of an EHC plan page.

3. ASD Survey Are you a parent/carer of a child/young person (0-18) with ASD or suspected ASD in Norfolk?

Healthwatch Norfolk is the independent consumer champion for anyone in Norfolk who uses health and social care services. As a registered charity our role is to help you have your say about the way that health and social care services are planned and delivered in Norfolk. Your feedback is really important to us for helping us improve local services across Norfolk. For more information please visit: www.healthwatchnorfolk.co.uk

Autism represents one of our three key priorities for our work this year. We are looking to understand more about families’ experiences of health and social care services supporting their child’s needs. We also want to hear of families’ journey through the local Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis services across Norfolk. We know that ASD can affect many individuals and families, which can often define what services both them and their child may need and come into contact with. We also know that having access to the right help and support at the right time can really make a difference to families.

We want to hear from parents and carers of children/young people (0-18 years old) with ASD or suspected ASD in Norfolk. This includes families who have concerns their child may have ASD, those waiting for a diagnosis and those whose child has a diagnosis.

If you have any questions, please contact Steph Tuvey, Healthwatch Norfolk Assistant Project Manager, as follows: Free phone: 0808 168 9669 Email: [email protected]

8. Self-harm App stem4 is a teenage mental health charity aimed at improving teenage mental health by

stemming commonly occurring mental health issues at an early stage.

Young people have just as much right to accessing facts about good mental health as they

do good physical health, and yet there is a lack of accurate information. Embarrassment or

social stigma surrounding mental health issues can so easily lead to confusion with what

may be normal development, as opposed to the early development of a mental health

issue.

By sharing information on how to recognise early warning signs and by providing effective

strategies in how to deal with them, we aim to stem these conditions early on.

Calm Harm app - helps you manage the urge to self-harm Why not try the Calm Harm app?

Calm Harm provides tasks that help you resist or manage the urge to self-harm and it’s completely private and password protected.

http://www.stem4.org.uk/calmharm/

9. Suicide Prevention Norfolk County Council have launched a series of resources to help support individuals considering ending their life. The ‘Safety Plan Diary’ and ‘Keeping Safe’ guides are based on advice and experiences of survivors of suicide and their families to offer practical help for individuals and professionals, as well as friends and relatives who may be concerned about somebody they know. Whether you work with vulnerable people, know someone who may need some support, or are looking for help yourself we all have a role to play. The information, tools and resources found here are the results of a county-wide partnership approach to reducing the numbers of those taking their own life in Norfolk. 17. Young People’s Rights Training

MORR (Make Our Rights Reality) is a pioneering national programme for young people. MORR has been designed by Youth Access to equip young people to take control of their problems and improve services in their communities by connecting them with their rights and responsibilities. MAP is delivering the RIGHTS course training programme, aimed at young people aged between 15-25 years to build their ‘legal capability’ by equipping them to deal with a range of legal problems that they might encounter in their life. The RIGHTS course is designed to cater to diverse groups of young people. It is flexible and can be delivered where young people are. Creativity underpins the programme, with fun and interactive activities with a range of media and methods e.g. film, technology, role-play scenarios, workshops and discussion. It is also designed to be challenging: engaging young people to debate on personal, moral and legal issues that develop critical thinking skills. There is also the opportunity for young people to progress and put what they learn into practice by engaging in a MORR Action project and regional and national campaigns. This is a crucial step in embedding their learning and making it a reality! For young people…. When life gives you lemons……

Housing, money, employment, benefits, you can be sure that the odd tricky issue will crop

up in your life from time to time. So how will you deal with it?

Make Our Rights Reality (MORR) is a programme of sessions designed to equip you to solve

problems and build your confidence.

Learn how to recognise and deal with issues through fun workshops involving a range of

creative methods from film to technology, games and debates. MORR is for you if you are

aged 15-25 years and want to take control of life’s problems, recognise legal issues and

develop skills.

20. Ambition Quality Drop-ins Momentum will be running drop-in sessions in January to answer questions about the Ambition Quality mark, a national kite mark scheme that aims to raise standards in youth organisations.

There will be six sessions across Norfolk and they will be very informal. We have chosen to run them from cafés so that people can chat over a coffee rather than listening to a presentation.

If you have already signed up to Ambition Quality, you are very welcome to come along to the sessions and bring your portfolio with you for checking – even if it’s not quite finished! I will be able to give you some tips about what the assessors are looking for, and make sure your policies and other evidence are up to the required standard. All drop-in sessions will run from 4.00-6.00pm Please book a slot in advance so that we can ensure we don’t have too many people at the same time King’s Lynn & West Norfolk Thursday 25th January Sainsbury’s Café Hardwick Road Kings Lynn Breckland Tuesday 23rd January Sainsbury’s Café Forest Retail Park Thetford Email [email protected] Phone 01603 672333 Aimee Gedge Supporting Excellence Officer

A survey was circulated in November 2017 to gather feedback on the usefulness of the

monthly e-bulletin. An impressive 72 responses were received and a snapshot of the

feedback can be seen below, full survey is available upon request. Many thanks to those

that participated.

The feedback has shown the frequency and content within the e-bulletin is about right and

bulletin please continue to share this with [email protected]

Whilst, it is clear the e-bulletin is being received among many professions, targeted work

development.

It is encouraging to hear your feedback and particularly how you use the e-bulletin, which

includes;

Networking and exploring collaborative working

Understanding the local area and local capacity

Use of the e-bulletin as a directory alongside Norfolk directory

https://www.norfolk.gov.uk/norfolk-directory

Some of the feedback and results is reproduced below

my awareness of what is around and who to go to with a specific query.’ Family support

worker.

‘If, on a visit, I recognise an issue, the bulletin gives me some ideas of where to sign post

individuals’. Representative from Probation service.

Mon 5th February 2018 Assertiveness expressing how you feel

For carers, identifying personal needs/wants and of those cared for and then being able to

communicate them to those who need to know (e.g. support workers, person you care for,

family) can be a challenging process. This supportive workshop will allow carers to explore a

variety of different ways they can communicate key messages.

Thurs 8th March 2018 Goals Setting For Carers

Being a carer can be life changing – having to reassess your whole way of living and the

future plans you once had. This can often generate a sense of loss around once valued goals,

leading to possible feelings of resentment. However goals can still be achieved it’s just

about thinking of different ways of approaching them. This workshop will give carers the

time and space to explore the goal setting process.

£5 per workshop (cheques payable to West Norfolk Carers). For further information and to
