The previous year, 2018, was exceptional for Montenegrin cinema: funding for film pro-duction was raised, Montenegrin films travelled the world festivals, followed by excellent ratings, bases for further progress were laid through the National Cinema Development Program, cash rebate was upgraded to 25% as an additional inspiration for production companies to shoot in our beautiful country, and finally, Montenegro has become a new member of the Eurimages Fund.

This publication proves that Montenegrin cinema is currently in the stage of dynamic de-velopment and growth, with many talented filmmakers in front and behind the camera.

We hope that these films, at different stages of production, will draw attention, and the call for cooperation is, as always, wide open.

Returning to her small coast-al hometown in Montenegro, she discovers the shipyard has filed for bankruptcy, leaving many people out of work. ‘Borders, Raindrops’ is a film about longing and belonging, set near the Adriatic Sea. A city girl visits her family in the Balkan countryside, awakening hope, love, and the sense of mystery. The story unfolds on the borders of Bosnia, Montenegro and Croatia, and is mirrored in the narrative structure of the film – broken in two halves and an epilogue. Her ghostly presence creates a connection between the two families, divided by the newly formed borders – with no passports or umbrellas needed.

Divorced father Marko is driven to the brink by limited contact with the one person he loves more than anyone – his daughter, who lives with her mother. When he starts ex-parte proceedings to get more time with her, he enters a Kafkaesque world of a social-services system in meltdown. His fierce, paternal love for his child is both the source of his misery and his greatest joy. As with A Stranger, writer-director Bobo Jelcic’s previous award-winning film, this film is both an intimate character study and a snapshot of a community.

„Mamonga“ is a triptych with fragmented dramaturgical structure, dealing with problems in communication through three completely dif-ferent set-ups. The connecting elements of these diverse stories are the characters of Jovana and Marko, adolescents from a bleak Bosnian provincial town. We observe their lives in two timelines – how they live in that conservative society and what became of them ten years after a traumatizing event took place in their hometown.

When he gets a role for the series he dreams of, his wife Jadranka tells him that she wants divorce, and their four-year-old daughter, Vida, stops speaking in protest of their frequent, mean-ingless quarrels. The film is situated in a village in Montenegro, a particular region main-ly populated by Albanians and located at the border with Albania. Most of the houses are left to oblivion as well as majority of the inhabitants. The events develop in present times and relate to the migration of the Albanian inhabitants from that region, a development that has started happening in the sixties of the last century and is continuing today. And it is the consequence of this migration the main theme of the film. The movie unfolds three situations, the present lives of three generations of women which have been left alone to deal with life and death. In addi-tion there are also layered: a story of “soft” human trafficking, a story about the transformation and depersonalization of youth which has mi-grated into America, and a story about the cult of a woman struggling to save the memory of a husband that has committed suicide.

Once on the ground, the more questions Nathalie asks about Miss Djurdjevic’s past and pres-ent delays in executing of her last will and testament, the more Sanja’s brother challenges her past actions and present motives. The script is composed of 3 short complementary film stories of sac-rifice, examining patterns of collective and personal interest (in three different time periods and three different locations), as well as the re-lationship between parents and children in the very act of sacrifice. The heroes of our film, each in their own way, in the legitimacy of their time, aiming to belong to something greater than theexistential - will raise a difficult question (about the cost of the of sacri-fice), searching for this timeless answer with the willingness to pay the most expensive price.

THREE stories about the impact of MIRACLES on a postcommunist society, set in 1993, 2001 and 2018. The heroes reappear in different stories and in new, ever more bizarre circumstances. Their destinies intertwine. Heavens Above gives an unconventional perspective on the transition period in a post-communist country - treating this era as a turbulent shift from pagan world into a Christian era, many Cen-turies ago. The occurrences of MIRACLES is the answer of collective consciousness to the changes that force the whole community to look at the world around them, turned upside down, in a new light and mi-raculous perspective.

His peace interrupted Robert (45), a former supermarket employee who, after he was fired, also decided to “move in” into the store: as he worked in the surveillance sector he knew how to bypass the alarm and CCTV cameras. THE ROADPUT

This is a story seen from two point of view - the abandoned son and father who left him. Like many people from the former Yugoslavia, the father emigrated abroad to seek a better life. Time spent abroad distanced him from his family and friends, but faced with a severe illness he feels the need for redemption. On the other hand, there is a silent boy who takes care of himself and his grandmother with the help of his neighbor Janko. He accepted life as it is, which turned him into an adult man too soon. It is only in between particular obligations and mere existence that we see that he is a child, who wants to be just that. His silence tells us about the emptiness made by his father’s absence. The father comes to Mon-tenegro and passes a one-day journey in a difficult physical condition, gathering the courage to meet with his son. While the son is at school, his father leaves him a gift, which explains that he was somehow following his life. This gift signifies the boy’s lost childhood. Why do people decide to do important things when they have the least time? Is the fear of death a necessary trigger that seeks and offers redemption?

An old man lives in a small village in the north of Montenegro. He is troubled by the story of his father, which he heard when he was a boy. At the end of WWII, an Italian officer called Mazzola was captured by the partisans, and soon after shot and buried close to the old man’s house. There is no tomb or trace; no real proof that the story is true. However, he is afraid of digging to see if any bones lie underneath. He turns to the remaining villagers in order to find out the truth. There are two men older than him, but their stories don’t always match and are not easy to comprehend.

THE BUSINESS OF REVENGE KRVNO MAŠČEVANJE

The killing of a young woman, Gjyste, becomes the setting for a Balkan drama revolving around pride, power, and family secrets. Her killer is convicted and imprisoned, yet the victim’s father is bound to the rem-nants of an ancient Albanian tradition -- blood revenge. He must either forgive his daughter’s killing – or slay a member of the killer’s family. A group of local men mediate, led by a former Secret Service agent from the capital. Under the guise of ritual, they pressure the father to forgive in order to prevent a catastrophe. But the mediators may also benefit from the tragedy.

Nearly 100,000 Kosovo Albanians were forced to find refuge in Monte-negro in 1998/99., not asking for national and religious affiliation.Today, 20 years later, a documentary film testifies to the fact that the days in Montenegro have been avoided, remained in collective memory, both displaced persons in 1999 and the whole of the nation. The author finds children from former refugee columns and disturbances and counters their later life paths and fellows.

The eyes and their children speak the same words:“We give the fury that we will remember the family”.

Friends who are trapped in trouble still live among many families today.

Amidst the rocky landscape of Montenegro, an elderly countryman lives his life just like his ancestors did throughout the centuries. By striking a steel fire striker (ognjilo) to a flint, he creates sparks and starts fire... And after some time, the landscape and his life get a new neighbour: a giant metal pillar of the power line – another source of sparks. However, nothing changes in his life: he keeps on starting fire the same old way, by striking a piece of steel to a flint…

VUDSUROGAT ZA VUDA

The film “Vud “is conceived as a kind of investigation; a trip down the memory lane of animated films in Croatia/Yugoslavia, but also a histori-cal portrait of social and political circumstances in Yugoslavia. The idea is to make a documentary with road movie elements. Some of Dušan’s closest childhood friends will take us on this journey and show us that aspect of his personality. By combining archival footage, animation and the reconstruction of the development process of animated films with newly recorded visuals, interviews and “travelogues”, while accompa-nied by Borivoj Dovniković Bordo and other living protagonists and sup-porting characters, we will recreate the story of “the Zagreb School” (Milan Blažeković, Nenad Pata, Kruno Heidler, Darko Kreč, etc.).

THE LAST NOMAD POSLEDNJI NOMAD

Beginning of June every year, Vanja takes his 400 sheep herd, his horse, dog and his fellow shepherd Rade on a 150km walking, from Danilovgrad to a distant katun in the mountains of Northern Montenegro. Vanja’s fi-nal goal is Sinjajevina- a Tibet-like mountain in the Balkan, wide pla-teau shaped with impassable reefs and canyons. However, at the point where plateau is surrounded with tall black pine trees rising above the Tara canyon, chain saws, trucks and other concessioners’ machines are creating a loud rumble. Disregarding the XIX century governor’s decree on provision for using of the katun to Vanja’s tribe, the municipality ca-daster from Mojkovac announces the removal of the cottages as ille-gally built objects on state property. Furthermore, the Government has decided to construct a military training ground for weapon destruction and other related activities on this plateau. The highlanders are worried that this might be their last year in the katun. A documentary Western on the last nomads of Europe through four yearly seasons.

In the centre of events is man – human being, in fact, a vertical, hardy and stoical CYPRESS , as a symbol of life, unbreakable nature and duration. Manifested in that cycle is the entire spectrum of life - from love, birth, motherhood, contentment and joy, but also pain, suffer-ing, sorrow and indivertible perishing. Yet, there is always a seed so that out of the embryos in an endless sequence a new cycle of life could develop.

DEUTSCHE CAFFEDOJČ CAFFE

The story follows three best friends, who are completely opposite char-acters. They are opening a coffee shop from different motives, and renting it from Dragica, the dominant woman who once held the tavern and obsessively dance salsa, and has mild sexual tendencies towards younger men. They come up with various ways to develop a business, but they do not care. The characters fall into various comical situations and we follow them in their attempts to get out of them more or less successfully. In a very specific way, the author team plays with stereo-types, introducing a completely new way of humor painted by Monte-negrin mentality.
