• Monopoly was invented in 1933.• Monopoly at first sold for four
dollars.• Monopoly was the best selling board game.• There are now international championships,
clubs, ongoing games on the internet.• Today Monopoly is played by a half of a billion
people a day.

Inventor: Charles Darrow
• Charles Darrow lived in German town, Pennsylvania.
• He was unemployed when he created Monopoly.• Soon not only friends but stores by Philadelphia
were claiming copies of Darrow’s game Monopoly.
• Darrow could no longer handle the demand so 1934 he gave the company to the Parkers Brothers.
• Charles retired a millionaire in 1935.
