MONMIA MESSENGER
Warm Regards,
Lorraine Bell Principal
Dear Monmia Families,
WHAT I NOTICED THIS WEEK
Leadership are fortunate to preview the student reports as we are proofreading them. Your children’s reports are a celebration of their effort and achievement. I would like to congratulate all the teachers for their intensive work on these reports. There are hours of work in each child’s report. Please enjoy reading them next week.
Our Junior School Councillors were wonderful ambassadors at a new kindergarten we visited on Tuesday-Thornhill Drive Kindergarten and again on Thursday at Kids Retreat.
The Preps and 1/2 students had a wonderful Wednesday at the Bike Ed program thanks to our partnership with Taylors Lakes Secondary College.
BITS & BOBS
Please remember that Student Led Conferences are held on Wednesday 28 June.
Ray White, one of our sponsors, are hosting an In-Room auction at Monmia on Wednesday 28
June at 7 pm. They will be using the Community and Staff PL room for their prospective
buyers. We are grateful for the support of Peter Travalos and his Ray White team.
Please remember to enrol for Code Camp in the school holidays.
Students should only wear Monmia school uniform. A black windcheater or top is not our
school uniform. Wearing different coloured long sleeve tops underneath the Monmia polo top
is also not school uniform. Hoodies are not allowed as they are dangerous when children are
playing aside especially in games of tiggy or chasey. Our students represent our school
wherever they go and therefore they should be in school colours and their uniform should be
clean and tidy. Thank you for your help with this.
END OF TERM
Please remember that Friday 30 June is the last day of term and that we finish at 2:30pm. As many
staff members have planned holidays to which they may be leaving for at the end of the school
day, we kindly request that you ensure that your child/children are picked up on time. If you
cannot pick them up at this time please book them into Camp Australia.
Any child left after 2:45pm will be sent to After Care at Camp Australia where you will be charged
for the service. The office will be closed at 3pm and the school will be vacated with no staff
present after this time. Please do not ask office staff to mind children if you are going to be late.
Please make alternative arrangements. We like to help as much as we can however teachers and
office staff finish work as of 2:30pm on Friday 30 June 2017. Term 3 commences on Monday 17 July 2017 at 8:50 with a whole school assembly as usual.
Dear Parents and Guardians, What is cyber bullying? Cyber bullying includes teasing, spreading online rumours or sending unwanted or threatening messages or defamatory material using a range of technologies. Children using the internet can be cyber bullied or harassed through internet services like email, chat rooms, instant messaging, social networks or through websites. Bullying through mobile phone technologies such as text messaging is also considered cyber bullying. Whilst cyber bullying can have a damaging effect on children and young people, parents can encourage them to take control of the situation. This may be done by: advising children not to reply to any messages from a bully. Often if bullies don’t
receive a response they will give up learning how to block a bully, so they can’t make contact keeping a record of the harassing messages and any replies which may help parents,
or the authorities, if necessary, to find out who is sending them keeping usernames and passwords secret. If someone misuses a username and
password to post damaging information about a child it can be difficult to remove children recognising that if messages are threatening, a parent or guardian should be
told immediately. Cyber bullying, if threatening, is illegal and can be reported to the police
contacting the website administrator (often known as the webmaster) to ask for content to be removed, if bullying information has been posted on that website
Parents can help protect their children by: checking the privacy settings for your internet services visiting the Cyber smart websites for information - www.cybersmart.gov.au and
www.bullyingnoway.com.au/ talking to the child’s school if cyber bullying is happening at school reporting threatening messages to the police contacting the Cyber safety Contact Centre on 1800 880 176 for advice. Family Activity How Cyber smart are you? Join Sam and complete the Kids Quiz on www.cybersmart.gov.au and learn how to be safe on line. Have fun! The information above was directly taken from the cyber smart website and I hope you found this article helpful. Warm Regards, Lucy Vorpasso

Introducing… Dear Parents and Guardians,
Monmia is a Bucket Filling School! We fill buckets and we don’t dip!
We use our lid to keep our bucket full and keep the drops in! I love how the Bucket Fillers Philosophy has been embraced by our school community this year. I know that we can keep filling other people’s buckets and make Monmia Primary School a warm, positive and caring place to be. When we all fill other people’s buckets then all community members benefit from these acts of kindness. There is so much to acknowledge at Monmia Primary School! Here are some ‘drops’ for you to read.
Remember that when you fill someone else’s bucket, you fill yours as well so keep filling buckets Monmia! Happy Bucket Filling!
Kind Regards,
Lucy Vorpasso
