The first game of 2018, would be the Wildcats vs. the Angels. The Wildcats offense was great in the first half, led by Jaslene Chammas and Ashley West, both scoring 4 points each. The Wildcats played an all-around great team effort with some amazing passing and great spacing throughout the floor. The Angels had a great defensive first half creating chaos by swarming around the ball, which led to a lot of double teams. At the end of the first half the Wildcats were up 8-6 The second half was just as good where both teams increased the intensity as the Angels players Giselle and Krishelle Orr set good screens and moved the ball very well which set them up for easy baskets. Towards the end, the Wildcats started to anticipate the Angels passes and steal the ball a lot which, in turn, set up a great transition offense. This game was down to the wire and eventually ended as a tied game 14-14. For the Wildcats were: Jaslene Chammas, Maggy Larson, Samantha Schupp and Ashley West. The Angels had: Amirah Branecki, Kimberly Cortes, Svetlana Fager, Giselle Orr, Krishelle Orr and Alison Salinas.

The second game of the day for junior league was the Aliens going against the Twisters. To start the game the Twisters won the ball and started to move the ball down the court. The Aliens defense were

able to stop the twisters from scoring. The first points of the game came from Malaina Rangel who was able to drive the ball through the defense and get to the basket. The Twisters weren’t able to do much on offense because the Twister defense was on lock down. The Aliens got the ball back and Sylvie Chicoine was able to score to add to the Twisters lead. Also scoring for the Aliens using great ball movement were Lucille Favorite-Perdoux and Malania Rangel who scored twice. The Twisters were able to get on the board before the half ended. Zoe Brask was able to score and put her team on the board. Going into the second half the aliens started with the ball. They got the ball moving quickly down the court. Makayla Argueta was able to score and add to the aliens lead. The Twisters had an answer back from Jane Belmont. Both teams were going back and forth down and up the court not scoring until Sylvie Chicoine as well as Emma Lopez both scored twice adding to the Alien lead. The Twisters had to answer to the points the aliens were putting up which led to Ania Queroz scoring for her team, giving them more points on the board. On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the Spiders and the Bees funneled into the gym for their game. Both teams started out practicing with determination, as the whistled signaled the game started. The Bees secured the jump as they took it down the court to rack up some points. On the Spiders Matthew Paredes put in some shocking buckets, as he grabbed the pass from his teammates and took a shot for the bucket and scored some points for his team. Harrison Gilliam also performed some very swift scores, as he uses agility to put the ball in the hoop. However, the Bees were not going down without a fight. Owen Keeler carried out some perfect jump shots as he moved around and about on the court. Maddox Appleby, under heavy defense from the Spiders, executed a timed shot to put even more tallies for his team's score. As the game ended, the Bees managed to clutch the victory against the Spiders. Playing for the Bees were Maddox Appleby, Elliott Delaney, Seth Horrow, Damien Joseph, Owen Keeler, Elliot O’Donnell, Brendan O’Leary, and Jonah Zehr. Playing for the Spiders were Dillon Curry, Phoenix Arroyo, Harrison Gilliam, Kai Lewin, Matthew Paredes, Mason Qiao, and Jack Zaikos.

The Bobcats and Jaguars battled it out on Saturday and it was a very intense game with both teams showing a lot of potential. The Bobcats won the jump and started moving the ball around creating a lot of open shots for their shooters. JJ Stoner and Cole Christian each made some baskets for the Bobcats. The Jaguars defense led by Giovanni Poirier and Brady Holtz forced a lot of turnovers that led to baskets by Clayton Balch and Charlie Balch. The Bobcats Zachary Barrett was also putting up a lot of good shots. The Jaguars got the ball first in the second half and got back to work on offense with baskets being made by Brady Holtz and Charlie Klaas. Playing for the Jaguars were Clayton Balch, Jack Heffey, Brady Holtz, Charlie Klaas, and Giovanni Poirier. Playing for the Bobcats were Ade Arroyo, Zachary Barrett, Cole Christian, August Maconochie, and JJ Stoner.

This past weekend we had the Bengals taking on the Pirates. Both teams had a strong defense that did not want to budge for either side, making it difficult for both teams to knock down a shot. For the Pirates, Jacob Hytros and Charlie Shaffer had two points apiece in the first half to tie the game with the Bengals, who had William Wigmore knocking down a pair of shots in the first half. During the second half both teams seemed to find a hot streak, with great teamwork. Connor Adams for the Bengals hit a trio of shots to keep his team on top, but the Hawks were not going away, with Michael Millar having his own two jumpers to keep the teams hope alive and Sean Souter scoring another basket as well. Overall, both teams had a great game and all players played hard! Playing for the Bengals were Connor Adams, Sammy Johnson, Truman Michalak, Tomas Roth, Cooper Schupp, and William Wigmore. Playing for the Pirates were Henry Hogan, Jacob Hytros, Michael Millar, Max Neveux, Charlie Shaffer, Tyler Shaffer, and Sean Souter.

The next exciting basketball game was between the Spartans and Eagles. It was a close game and began with the Spartans winning the tip-off. A good team needs good passing and that's what the Spartans did. Great passes from Anthony Cruz led to awesome shots for Richard Barron and Jordan Ayala. On the Eagles Jayden Torres made multiple shots that put his team in the lead. Assisting his teammates was Joshua Groh. In the second half the Spartans went on a big run. Anthony Cruz and Richard Barron both had great passes and shots in the second half. In this half the Eagles used the fundamentals of basketball, the whole team took good shots, dribbled by switching their hands, using bounce passes to get the ball to their teammate, all which led to a good 2nd half of the game. On the Spartans were Jordan Ayala, Richard Barron, Anthony Cruz, Luka Fager, and Javier Gomez. Playing for the Eagles were Jayden Torres, Joshua Groh, Tyler Groh, John Markuson, Logan Martin, and Beamish Ryan.

The Cougars had an amazing first half with Henry Matvias getting a total of six points in the first half, along with Tucker Tracy getting six points. For the second half the Panthers and Cougars both had great opportunities getting the ball down court. Jonathan Nelson had a few baskets and was able to score one final basket as time was winding down. On the Cougars Lukas Pieper managed to get four more points on the board to help his team come back. The Hawks came in with another two points as Dylan Kemper used his dribbling techniques. In the second half the Hawks extended their lead and relied on defense to close out the game. The Falcons continued to try and find good shots, but time was not their ally as time ran out. Playing on the Falcons included Ethan Lebron, Eduardo Salinas, Oliver DeMarea and Cresencio Teodoro. Along with Leah Hasselberger and Ava Ramsey playing well on defense, they were able to make outlet passes to Jocelyn Chammas to continuously get her layups and knock down her jumpers. On the Angels, Alani Perez was relentless with getting shots on the board and worked with Adalyce Hollis to tighten the score up a bit. Sonyalee Martinez had great passes and was able to pass to Nathalia Aranda—which led to a foul that brought her to the line. Jenna was able to block a shot and find a pass to Leah Hasselberger who brought the ball up, made a quick pass to Jocelyn Chammas, who brought the ball up for an easy layup. Natalie Centeno of the Aliens had great steals and was always alert for what was happening on the court, and was able to work alongside with Lilly Cohen.
