Reflect on the School Plan . . .

Is each indicator written as a SMART goal in "how will it look when fully met"?

Are tasks sequenced appropriately to fully meet the indicator?

Do the selected indicators and tasks address the needs of the school?

Are all members of the faculty aware of and invested in the process of improvement?

The monitoring component of an improvement plan is where the magic happens.

Why? Monitoring allows improvement teams to determine whether

a task (recipe) has been successful.

School- and division-level leadership teams will evaluate the efficacy of the tasks included in their respective improvement plans on a quarterly

basis.

the status of tasks should be entered here on a consistent

basis.

When all tasks associated with an indicator have been completed, the information below will be displayed. School- and division-level

leadership teams will need to select one of these options to complete their work with the indicator.

Focus Questions: Monitoring the Plan

Are the indicators and the resulting tasks included as integral components of staff meeting agendas?

What steps have been developed to monitor plan?

What data will be reviewed? How will the status of interventions for Tier 2 and Tier 3

students be documented?

Who will be responsible for entering monitoring comments into Indistar® Web-based planning tool?

What should a school or division team do if their

monitoring indicates that certain tasks included in their plans are not successful?

Hint: The answer does not involve deleting the task.

After implementing and monitoring a task for a period of time, the school- or division-level team may determine that it is not effective.

There are two available options to address this:

Option A

Option B

The school- or division-level team may revise the task

by adding additional information. This may be accomplished by returning

to the “Create School Plan” component of the

Main Menu.

The school- or division-level team may enter comments regarding their efforts to

implement the task (including related data) and

indicate that it will be discontinued. This may be

accomplished by returning to the “Monitor School Plan”

component of the Main Menu. A new task will need

to be created.

Option 1: Add additional information to an existing task by revisiting the Create School Plan component.

Select the task, and edit the information. Save your work.

Option 2: Revisit the Monitor School Plan component. Enter comments regarding efforts to implement the task (including

related data) and indicate that it will be discontinued.

Throughout the duration of the improvement

plan, school-level teams will enter formative data associated with

specific tasks into the Indistar®

tool.

Information regarding the specific data may be entered by the school leadership team into the Assessment component of the Indistar® Web-

based planning tool.

Additional data (i.e. qualitative measures) may be uploaded into the Filing Cabinet component of the Indistar® Web-based planning tool.

School leadership teams will enter formative data related to at least one

task per indicator into the assessment component of Indistar®. Please do not

enter Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) data.

Throughout the lifetime of the improvement plan, formative data will

continue to be added by the school leadership

team.

ongoing data to make decisions and being action-oriented are essential criteria for achieving

positive results.

Are agendas and meeting minutes updated monthly?

Are there specific times when task managers report to the school team or entire faculty?

For tasks that are completed, have comments been added? Are comments dated?

For tasks that are ongoing, are comments added periodically (i.e. monthly) to show progress? Are comments dated?

Is at least one assessment included in the assessment chart to represent an indicator?

Is the continual review of data, for possible plan revision, built into the planning process?
