1 Introduction
This Document describes step by step Monitoring Office 365 using SCOM 2012 Sp1 to
2016.

2 Prerequisite
In order to successfully Monitor Office 365 using the SCOM you need to do the
following:
Download Office 365 for this link.
Have System Center Operations Manager 2012 Sp1 to 2016
Windows OS 2012 R2 or Windows 2016.
Create O365 new user, and do not assign any licenses to that user. Assign that user
admin rights.

3 Install the O365 MP
After download the O365 MP you can install/import the MP by the following steps.
3.1 Install the Management pack steps
Graphical Interface
1. Login the SCOM Server using local admin and SCOM admin Account, locate the downloaded Office 365 Management pack MSI, Right click Install.
2. Accept the License Agreement then click Next.

3. Browse to the Extract file location and select everyone then click next.
4. Confirm the Installation then click Install.
5. Insure that the installation done successfully then click Close.

3.2 Import the Management pack steps
After install the Management pack MSI you need to import the MP.
Graphical Interface
1. Open the SCOM console, go to Administration, under Management packs right click on Import Management Packs…….
2. Select Add then add from disk.
3. Select No ….

4. Browse to the MP location file.
5. Click Install ……
6. Insure the MP imported successfully then click Close.

3.3 Create the Override O365 Management pack steps
To do any MP customization you need to create Override MP in order to keep the
Rules/Monitors override.
Graphical Interface
1. Open the SCOM console, go to Administration, under Management packs right click on Create Management Packs…….
2. Enter the Overrides MP Name then Next.

4 Create dedicated Recourse Pool for O365 Monitoring
Office 365 Management Pack uses agentless monitoring approach. All monitoring
workflows that communicate with Office 365 Monitoring API are being executed on
Management Servers only.
It is possible to create custom Management Server pools to filter the list of
Management Servers, which will run Office 365 monitoring workflows (discovery,
monitor, rules).
To Create Recourse Pool for Office 365:
Graphical Interface
1. Open the
SCOM console,
go to
Administration,
under Recourse
Pool, Click
Create
Recourse Pool
2. Enter the Recourse Pool Name then Next.

3. In the Pool Membership page, click Add.
4. Click Search without entering anything in the filter field, all available management servers will be displayed.
5. In Available
items, select
the servers that
you want in the
resource pool,
click Add, and
then click OK.
6. Click Next.

7. On the
Summary page,
review the
settings and
then click
Create.
8. When the wizard completes, click Close

5 Configure O365 Management pack steps
To add office 365 monitored subscription you need to run Office 365 wizard
There are two options available for monitoring your subscriptions:
Monitoring configuration: Microsoft Office 365 user credentials are used
And Azure Service Principal is used.
The following steps cover Microsoft Office 365 user credentials are used option.
Graphical Interface
1. Open the
SCOM console,
go to
Administration,
select Office
365 wizard then
Add
subscription
2. Enter a
Subscription
Name, Select
“Use auto-
created Azure
Service
Principal”
option, and click
next.

3. Enter Global Administrator account credentials and click “Sign in”
4. Choose an
O365 pool from
the list of
available pools.
Click Add
Subscription.
5. Click Finish to close the Wizard.

6. The new
subscription will
be added to the
Operations
Manager, and
will appear in
Configured
Subscriptions
list.
7. Go to Monitoring tab Select Office 365 Monitoring Dashboard, Check your Subscription Health “Should be Green”
8. After around 5 min you will be able to find the O365 Alerts on the MP alerts view.
