• Look out for ‘reduced to clear’ stickers on packaged bread, fruit, vegetables, yoghurt, cheese and meat.

Canned lentils MinceBeans, lentils and meat

• Canned beans & lentils are a good choice and can be added to meals, especially meat dishes, to bulk them up. For example, by adding lentils to mince, you will improve the nutrition profile & reduce the cost by using less meat.

• Choose canned products that are ‘no added salt’ or ‘reduced salt’.

• Purchase meat on special or in larger amounts and freeze in smaller portions

Breakfast Cereals

• ‘Plain’ breakfast cereals (eg. Wheat biscuits or oats) are healthier and often cheaper than high sugar and high salt cereals.

• Breakfast cereals in colourful packaging and offering toys to children usually cost more. Look for plain packaging as these products are usually much cheaper.

Fruit and vegetables
