Getting Central City Replicable

description

Member Name: Christie StalcupService Site: Central City Community OutreachSite Location: Los Angeles, CAProject Description:Christie Stalcup was a TMC member with Central City Community Outreach Programs in Los Angeles, CA. During her time with Central City Christie worked intensely with young children in an array of academic and extracurricular activities. Her final project is a detailed blueprint on how to facilitate one of Central City's most important activities, an annual trip to Central City's executive director's home in in Arleta, CA. This event is one of the few times that students at the site, their parents, volunteers, and executives from Central City get the opportunity to bond with one another and celebrate the progress that the children at the sites have made with the help of TMC members. This projects details every part of the planning process and discusses the impact that this activity has on the moral and growth of the children at the site and TMC members alike.

Purpose: During our regular program during

the school year, we do not have many opportunities to connect with parents. The purpose of this event is to spend a day with our students and families enjoying the summer and developing deeper relationships with all of them, especially the parents.

DetailsGrady’s address:11 Hoofmort St

Arleta, CA 91331  Union Rescue Mission provides transportation to and

from the event. Contact them well in advance to set up transportation for each Monday in the summer. Make sure that you remember to invite the bus driver in to eat lunch!

During the summer, we often have groups that come to Los Angeles from around the country to work with Central City. Mondays at Grady’s are an excellent opportunity for them to hang out with the kids, chat with the parents, and help out with the event through handling various responsibilities (see the how to prep document) and planning games and activities for the kids to enjoy.

Save plastic silverware and plastic cups by washing them each week to be reused throughout the summer.
