Going: Good

Perth is a right-handed circuit of one and a quarter miles, with eight fences to the circuit, the course rather surprisingly featuring in the top half of the attrition league table, this probably due in some part to the number of xtures that are run on testing going in the spring. The course has sweeping turns (bar the one into the home straight) and quite a at running surface. The water jump is in front of the stands and is left out on the run-in, leaving a long run from the last fence to the winning post. The camera angle in the home straight can be most deceptive, especially over hurdles, horses often appearing closer to the lead than they actually are.

Pace Information: Very Weak

1 GETAROUND (IRE) (188) t 1003181- 5 11-4 | 71.7kg Ella Pickard Bryan Carver (5lb/2kg) Point/bumper winner who made a pleasing start over hurdles when winning 23f Exeter novice in the mud when last seen in March, forging clear under this rider. Likely has more to offer.

2 FAROCCO (GER) (305) t 82P76758/54- 7 10-12 | 68.9kg Maurice Barnes Dale Irving (3lb/1kg) Raced 14 times over hurdles without success though has the ability to win a small race. First run for 10 months.

3 GENERATION GAP (IRE) (236) 946U7/335- 6 10-12 | 68.9kg

Jonjo O’Neill Non Runner NON RUNNER.

4 MISTERMOONBOY (IRE) (571) 948236/ 6 10-12 | 68.9kg Leonard Kerr Derek Fox Placed first 2 starts over hurdles in maiden company at up to this trip at Ayr in 2018/19. Not seen since a heavy defeat in Kelso handicap 19 months ago.

5 SCHIEHALLION RIDGE (IRE) (239) 7/05- 5 10-12 | 68.9kg Jackie Stephen Henry Brooke Well beaten in bumper/2 novice hurdles. First run for 7 months.

6 SOUTHERN GIRL (IRE) (326) 4- 6 10-5 | 65.8kg Lucinda Russell Blair Campbell (3lb/1kg) Expensive point winner from good family. Showed a bit in Carlisle bumper last October and should have a future over jumps.

6 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:5-6 Getaround, 5-2 Southern Girl, 7-1 Mistermoonboy, 16-1 Farocco, 200-1 bar

TIMEFORM VIEW:GETAROUND won’t face anything like the test he had when winning well at Exeter when last seen but he surely has more to offer in this sphere and can make a successful return. Southern Girl could have a good opportunity on her hurdles debut if the selection doesn’t give his running.

Pace Information: Weak

1 TOO WISE MAN (IRE) (216) t 913U2- 8 11-12 | 75.3kg Maurice Barnes Ross Chapman Point winner who showed a fair bit on his 2 completed starts over fences at around 3m last season but he’ll need to jump better if he’s to make an impact in handicaps this term.

2 DR HOOVES (IRE) (27) (D) s+t 952/29414-3 7 11-11 | 74.8kg Lucinda Russell Stephen Mulqueen (3lb/1kg) Won a similar event at Musselburgh in February but returned with a moody display after another wind op over C&D last month. Cheekpieces now reached for.

3 APTLY PUT (IRE) (31) s 9232/3209-45 8 11-5 | 72.1kg James Moffatt Non Runner Plenty of good runs over hurdles but failed to strike. Showed a bit on belated chase debut at Cartmel (25.5f) last month but needs plenty more now. NON RUNNER.

4 BROTHERLY COMPANY (IRE) (11) (BF) s 100794387-12 8 11-5 | 72.1kg Sandy Thomson Ryan Mania Well supported when making successful yard debut in 11-runner handicap chase at Southwell (20.4f) on return and chased home a reviver off this mark at Sedgefield 11 days ago. Big shout in this form.

5 HIS DREAM (IRE) (13) s 98P493P-43P 7 11-4 | 71.7kg

Jonjo O’Neill Jonjo O’Neill Jr. Three-time winning staying hurdler but unreliable as a rule. Suffered a cut heel when last seen just a fortnight ago and now makes a belated chase debut.

6 CALLE MALVA (IRE) (175) 9851P42- 5 11-4 | 71.7kg Lucinda Russell Blair Campbell (3lb/1kg) Modest winning hurdler who ran well behind a useful prospect in 22.7f Kelso mares’ novice handicap when last seen in March. She looks a thorough stayer and could be the type to do well over fences.

7 WALKIN IN THE RAIN (IRE) (8) s 9802P54-5F2 7 10-4 | 65.3kg Jim Goldie Brian Hughes Best effort yet since he returned when second over shorter here 8 days ago, no match for another lightly-raced type given a tremendous ride. Longer trip fine and leading claims off same mark.

8 COSTLY DREAM (IRE) (7lb/3kg ex) (5) (D) t 952/5-6551 8 10-0(9-13) | 63.5kg (63.0kg) William Young Jnr Derek Fox Point winner off the mark under Rules with a much-improved display in 3m Hexham handicap chase last week, staying on well. This is tougher under a penalty but he couldn’t be dismissed.

8 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:3-1 Walkin In The Rain, 7-2 Brotherly Company, 6-1 Calle Malva, 7-1 Costly Dream, 9-1 Too Wise Man, 9-1 His Dream, 10-1 Dr Hooves

TIMEFORM VIEW:Not many can be discounted, with WALKIN IN THE RAIN selected to build on his good run here last time and open his account back up in distance. The in-form Brotherly Company has a good shout if staying the new trip, while Costly Dream has to be respected after Wednesday’s Hexham win. Calle Malva could easily better her modest winning hurdles form now sent chasing.

Pace Information: Strong

1 ISLAND HEIGHTS (IRE) (175) (D) 962413/33- 11 11-10 | 74.4kg Lucinda Russell Derek Fox Has dipped below his last winning mark and produced a couple of respectable efforts earlier in the year, albeit not jumping all that fluently at Hexham when last seen in February. Might need the run.

2 ORDER OF THISTLE (IRE) (40) (D) s 954/154315-8 5 11-9 | 73.9kg Lucinda Russell Blair Campbell (3lb/1kg) Off the mark in 3m maiden hurdle at Musselburgh (23.8f) in January but has struggled in handicaps from a stiff mark since.

3 TOI STOREY (IRE) (15) s+t 95331/7P17-7 7 11-8 | 73.5kg Rebecca Menzies Nathan Moscrop (3lb/1kg) Much improved in first-time cheekpieces when wide-margin winner of 25f Catterick handicap in December. In nothing like the same form on both subsequent outings, though.

4 LEVEL OF INTENSITY (IRE) (22) t 921584/7 6 11-6 | 72.6kg Nigel Hawke David Noonan Fairly useful hurdler at his peak and, following a quiet spell on the Flat, showed some ability remains when seventh in a handicap at Market Rasen back in this sphere last time.

5 THE DISTANT LADY (IRE) (39) (D, BF) t 94124P3-13 6 11-6 | 72.6kg

Graeme McPherson Kielan Woods Plenty in hand when scoring at Southwell in July and perhaps found race coming too soon when a laboured third there next time. May well resume progress after a break.

6 HEAVEY (10) (C) t 1004/21331-BF 6 11-5 | 72.1kg

Neil Mulholland Robert Dunne Dual winning hurdler who looked set to make it three before slipping and falling 2 out at Fontwell 10 days ago. Should be able to make amends from the same mark.

7 RIVABODIVA (IRE) (331) (D) t 98194275/63- 10 11-5 | 72.1kg Lucinda Russell Patrick Wadge (10lb/5kg) Below her last winning mark but only seen out twice last season and, while her third at Hexham 11 months ago was a creditable effort, it’s concerning that she’s been off the track since.

8 CHANCEANOTHERFIVE (IRE) (42) (C, D) b 9323/61135-3 8 11-3 | 71.2kg Stuart Coltherd Sam Coltherd (3lb/1kg) Largely in fine form around 3m this winter, scoring over hurdles and fences at Musselburgh. Lacklustre display in handicap chase at Market Rasen on return, though.

9 ALWAYS TIPSY (421) (CD) 954644/5212- 11 11-1 | 70.3kg N. W. Alexander Lucy Alexander Made all over C&D last June and followed it with an excellent second here the following month. Not seen since but handicapper has given him a chance.

10 RATFACEMCDOUGALL (IRE) (235) (D) t 89181/3P454- 7 11-0 | 69.9kg

Graeme McPherson Max Kendrick (3lb/1kg) Dual winning hurdler who made an uninspiring start to chasing last season and found little when fourth at Market Rasen when last seen back over smaller obstacles 7 months ago. Others preferred.

11 PETITE GANACHE (IRE) (27) (D, BF) s 9452/32521-3 8 11-0 | 69.9kg

Nicky Richards Brian Hughes Has shown signs of temperament on more than one occasion, but did the job well when scoring at Musselburgh in January and returned with a creditable third over C&D 27 days ago. One to consider.

11 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:5-2 Heavey, 5-1 Petite Ganache, 5-1 The Distant Lady, 12-1 Always Tipsy, 14-1 Rivabodiva, 20-1 Island Heights, 20-1 Ratfacemcdougall, 22-1 Level of Intensity, 25-1 Order of Thistle, 33-1 Chanceanotherfive, 40-1 bar

TIMEFORM VIEW:HEAVEY looked set to win at Fontwell before coming down in unfortunate fashion 2 out, so he’s an obvious choice to gain compensation. The Distant Lady was impressive at Southwell on her penultimate outing, so she might be able to resume progress, while Petite Ganache warrants respect after a positive return over C&D last month.

Pace Information: Even

1 CAIUS MARCIUS (IRE) (39) (C) s 98121114-32 9 11-12 | 75.3kg

Nicky Richards Brian Hughes Useful hurdler who matched that level when rattling off a novice chase hat-trick at around 2m last summer. As good as ever upon returning over timber of late and respected returned to chasing.

2 ROYAL VILLAGE (IRE) (59) (C, D) s 996/14213F-6 8 11-5 | 72.1kg Ian Williams Tom O’Brien Progressed well last summer, scoring at Uttoxeter and Southwell. Fell at Cheltenham Festival in March and likely he’ll strip fitter for his return effort in the Summer Plate in July.

3 CRACKING DESTINY (IRE) (27) (D) 1003/1221-U42 7 10-12 | 68.9kg Alistair Whillans Craig Nichol Chase/hurdles winner upon joining this yard during 2019/20 season and he arrives here on the back of a good second in a C&D event last month. Should go well again.

4 TIDAL WATCH (IRE) (28) 9933F24-434 6 10-10 | 68.0kg

Jonjo O’Neill Jonjo O’Neill Jr. Quickly made into a useful chaser last season and good in-frame efforts upon returning in July. However, bounce back called for on the back of below par display at Southwell latest.

5 TONTO’S SPIRIT (15) s 9121124F-68 8 10-7 | 66.7kg Dianne Sayer Conor O’Farrell Front runner who took well to chasing, winning 3 races in the north last season. Disappointing of late though, running a moody race faced with competition for the lead at Cartmel last time.

6 SOLAR IMPULSE (FR) (28) 99275254-31 10 10-7 | 66.7kg Ian Williams Dave Crosse Quirky sort who shaped encouragingly when third on return at Uttoxeter and confirmed promise of that run when back to winning ways at Southwel (15.8f) last month. Respected.

7 GET OUT THE GATE (IRE) (50) (C) 97469P63-60 7 10-6 | 66.2kg Sandy Thomson Callum Bewley Winning hurdler/chaser for Jim Goldie who failed to make an impact either start for Gordon Elliott (reportedly bled final start). Market should guide having changed hands again.

8 OLEG (GER) (323) 94212/1P- 5 10-6 | 66.2kg Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden Low-mileage, versatile sort who added pair of Flat wins to his hurdle/chase victories this summer. Remains unexposed over fences and likely he has more to offer moving forward.

9 VOIX D’EAU (FR) (27) (D) s+t 9917750U/2-4 10 10-5 | 65.8kg Lucinda Russell Blair Campbell (3lb/1kg) Well handicapped judged on 2018 form (successful off 14 lb higher mark at Southwell in August of that year). Looked rusty on back of an absence over C&D last month and this should reveal more.

9 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:4-1 Solar Impulse, 9-2 Cracking Destiny, 9-2 Caius Marcius, 6-1 Oleg, 10-1 Royal Village, 11-1 Tidal Watch, 14-1 Voix D’eau, 16-1 Get Out The Gate, 16-1 Tonto’s Spirit

TIMEFORM VIEW:A winner from a 6 lb lower mark over fences, OLEG clearly wasn’t 100% when beaten at short odds at Kempton last autumn. Progressive on the level subsequently, he’s worth chancing to get back on the up over the longest trip he’s faced in this sphere. Cracking Destiny and Caius Marcius are others fancied to feature, along with Solar Impulse.

1 LLEYTON (IRE) (19) (D) 989644F-269 8 11-13 | 75.7kg Justin Landy Danny McMenamin (3lb/1kg) It’s sixteen runs since his last win in 2018, and (10/3) only ninth of 13 in handicap at Stratford (16.3f, heavy) 19 days ago. Needs a couple of these to falter.

2 EFFET SPECIAL (FR) (27) (CD) t 1003/F736P-61 6 11-12 | 75.3kg Lucinda Russell Derek Fox 9/2, cashed in on reduced mark when winning 10-runner handicap hurdle over C&D (soft) 27 days ago. Merits consideration despite 7 lb rise.

3 OAKMONT (FR) (43) 9825386/09-F 7 11-11 | 74.8kg James Moffatt Non Runner Fair ex-Irish hurdler. Shaped well on Flat on yard debut and (6/1) still to be asked for his effort when faflling last in handicap hurdle at Cartmel (17.2f, good) 43 days ago. NON RUNNER.

4 GEMOLOGIST (IRE) (8) t 99227752-25 5 11-10 | 74.4kg Lucinda Russell Blair Campbell (3lb/1kg) Respectable fifth of 12 in handicap hurdle here (20.2f, good to soft) 8 days ago. Needs more if she’s to gain a first win though.

5 KABRIT (IRE) (34) 99453603-2 5 11-9 | 73.9kg Alastair Ralph Tom O’Brien Back from 10 months off with good second of 16 in handicap hurdle (11/1) at Southwell (15.8f, good) 34 days ago. Up 3 lb but still much respected.

6 PUT THE LAW ON YOU (IRE) (274) t 954/3203P- 5 11-9 | 73.9kg Alistair Whillans Mr Connor Wood (7lb/3kg) Still without a win, and pulled up in handicap hurdle (14/1) at Kelso (22.7f, heavy) when last seen out 9 months ago. Tongue strap fitted for his return with plenty to prove.

7 SET IN STONE (IRE) (7lb/3kg ex) (8) (CD) 96644-61 6 11-7 | 73.0kg Rebecca Menzies Nathan Moscrop (3lb/1kg) Fair 9f winner on Flat who proved suiting by waiting tactics when opening her hurdling account in handicap over C&D (good to soft) 8 days ago by 3¼l from Bossiney Bay. Good claims under 7 lb penalty.

8 KILFINAN BAY (IRE) (8) 955/97-26 5 11-6 | 72.6kg Jackie Stephen Henry Brooke Lightly-raced maiden. Below-form sixth of 14 to Calliope in handicap (11/2) over C&D (good to soft) 8 days ago. Needs to step forward.

9 TOUCHEDBYANANGEL (IRE) (8) (D) t 910/8725P9-8 8 11-5 | 72.1kg Lucinda Russell Stephen Mulqueen (3lb/1kg) Ended last season below par and fared no better after 9 months off when eighth of 14 to Calliope in handicap over C&D 8 days ago. Has serious questions to answer now.

10 CALLIOPE (7lb/3kg ex) (8) (CD) b+t 975523312-1 7 11-5 | 72.1kg Dianne Sayer Brian Hughes Fit from the Flat and (blinkered first time) posted career best to land 14-runner handicap hurdle over C&D (good to soft) 8 days ago. Headgear retained but more progress needed saddling 7 lb penalty.

11 BLUESKYANDSUNSHINE (IRE) (11) 9757-2658 5 11-4 | 71.7kg Keith Dalgleish Craig Nichol Fair maiden at his best but (22/) below-par eighth of 11 on handicap bow at Sedgefield (19.8f, good to firm) 11 days ago. Needs to bounce back.

12 RAYMOND (IRE) (48) 952599502-6 5 11-3 | 71.2kg Keith Dalgleish Peter Coleman (10lb/5kg) Not disgraced after 5 months off when fading sixth of 9 in handicap hurdle here (20.2f, good to firm) 48 days ago. Dropped 3 lb but has something to find.

13 RADJASH (19) t 95605-2 6 10-13 | 69.4kg Declan Carroll Robert Dunne Lightly-raced maiden. 20/1, good second of 13 in handicap hurdle at Stratford (16.3f, heavy) 19 days ago. 4 lb rise demands another step forward though.

14 HEY BOB (IRE) (27) (D) t 1002455168-3 8 10-7 | 66.7kg Chris Grant Sean Quinlan Unreliable sort but (25/1) one of better efforts when third of 9 in handicap over C&D 27 days ago, despite pulling hard. On good mark if able to back that effort up.

15 GO COMPLAIN (48) s+t 9460200/P0-P 8 10-7 | 66.7kg Jean McGregor Grant Cockburn (3lb/1kg) Remains winless, and pulled up in handicap hurdle here (20.2f, good to firm) 48 days ago. Very hard to make a case for.

16 BOSSINEY BAY (IRE) (8) v 995856-4882 5 10-6 | 66.2kg Oliver Greenall Ross Turner (5lb/2kg) 10/1 and visored for 1st time, creditable 3¼ lengths second of 13 to Set In Stone in handicap hurdle at this C&D (good to soft) 8 days ago. Looks competitive on form.

16 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:9-2 Effet Special, 6-1 Set In Stone, 8-1 Kabrit, 8-1 Calliope, 10-1 Bossiney Bay, 12-1 Gemologist, 20-1 Lleyton, 20-1 Radjash, 22-1 Kilfinan Bay, 22-1 Raymond, 25-1 Hey Bob, 33-1 Blueskyandsunshine, 33-1 Put The Law On You, 40-1 bar

TIMEFORM VIEW:Marginal preference is for SET IN STONE who was capable of fair form on the level and opened her account in this sphere with a stylish win over C&D last week when proving well suited by more patient tactics. Effet Special is another recent C&D scorer who warrants plenty of respect, while Kabrit is worth considering too.

1 BAFANA BLUE (274) (D) t 10014/121114- 9 11-12 | 75.3kg Maurice Barnes Ross Chapman Did very well over fences last season, winning 4 of 6 starts. Stamina just stretched by 4m on heavy when last seen in December and still looks on a fair mark. Big player if primed after break.

2 COUP DE PINCEAU (FR) (49) (D) s 9911342/3P-5 8 11-12 | 75.3kg Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden Useful chaser from a top stable but lightly raced in recent times and he has a bit to prove after finishing a remote fifth of 6 on his Market Rasen 7 weeks ago.

3 NOTNOW SEAMUS (59) t 891217/4F2-4 9 11-10 | 74.4kg

Nicky Richards Brian Hughes Developed into a useful hurdler for Dan Skelton in 2018. Failed to fire in 3 chase starts for that yard last year but better signs when fourth on Market Rasen return for new stable. Respected.

4 CRAIGMOR (IRE) (27) (D) s 961P1/11P-12 8 11-2 | 70.8kg Olly Murphy Richard Johnson Enhanced his very good strike in recent years when making light of a 14-month absence in Market Rasen handicap hurdle in July. Fine second here since and needs considering back chasing.

5 MONBEG RIVER (IRE) (61) (C) 98225/4694-S 11 11-2 | 70.8kg Martin Todhunter Sean Quinlan No win since scoring at Doncaster in late 2017 and struggled for form last term. Was going well when slipping up after 4 out on his Stratford return but it was too far out to predict the outcome.

6 CABOY (FR) (27) t 983B61PU8/4 8 11-1 | 70.3kg Lucinda Russell Stephen Mulqueen (3lb/1kg) Winning hurdler/fairly useful chaser in France who made an encouraging return from an 18-month absence when fourth over hurdles here last month. Had wind op since. Respected.

7 THE BOOLA BEE (IRE) (30) (CD) h 9822P420-11 7 10-4 | 65.3kg Nigel Hawke Tom Buckley (7lb/3kg) C&D winner who has returned in very good form, scoring over 3m at Market Rasen and Uttoxeter in recent months. However, she’s up 6 lb in a higher grade so will need career best to complete hat-trick.

7 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:7-2 Craigmor, 4-1 Notnow Seamus, 11-2 Coup De Pinceau, 6-1 The Boola Bee, 6-1 Bafana Blue, 8-1 Monbeg River, 12-1 Caboy

TIMEFORM VIEW:CRAIGMOR’s latest course hurdle second received a boost when the winner went in again at Sedgefield on Friday and Olly Murphy’s 8-y-o can make a successful return to chasing off the same mark. Notnow Seamus won off this mark over hurdles during his time with Dan Skelton so is respected after an encouraging reappearance run for his new yard. Bafana Blue should also have a say if primed for this.

Pace Information: Insu cient Data

1 BIG JIM DWYER (IRE) (8) (BF) 433 4 10-12 | 68.9kg Keith Dalgleish Craig Nichol Fair form when reaching the frame on all 3 starts (trained by Joseph O’Brien first 2), his latest third coming over C&D 8 days ago. Sets the standard.

2 GETALEAD (IRE) (227) 685- 4 10-12 | 68.9kg Ella Pickard Nick Scholfield Modest form in bumpers last winter, his best run when fifth at Huntingdon in January. Probably vulnerable unless finding some improvement.

3 JINKAMAN (27) 0-6 6 10-12 | 68.9kg Chris Grant Sean Quinlan Twice-raced maiden, better effort when modest sixth of 8 over C&D 4 weeks ago. Likely to find a few too strong again.

4 OTELLO MOOR (IRE) 5 10-12 | 68.9kg Lucinda Russell Derek Fox €32,000 Milan gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to useful hurdler/very smart chaser (stayed 33f) Ad Hoc. Not bred to come into his own until tackling longer trips but betting probably the best guide.

5 RESTANDBETHANKFUL 4 10-12 | 68.9kg Olly Murphy A. P. Heskin €52,000 Califet gelding. Half-brother to bumper winner Little Jack. Stable has a very healthy 25% strike-rate in these events. Of obvious interest on debut.

6 ROCK REBEL (IRE) 5 10-12 | 68.9kg Jim Goldie Brian Hughes €20,000 Rock of Gibraltar brother to useful hurdler/fairly useful chaser King of The Picts. Brian Hughes up for debut and needs keeping an eye on in the betting.

7 WEST END WOODY (IRE) 5 10-12 | 68.9kg Alistair Whillans Callum Bewley €5,000 Court Cave gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 3m) Noble Emperor. Stable in reasonable form but isn’t a regular source of bumper winners.

8 GREY FRONTIERES (IRE) t 6 10-5 | 65.8kg Rebecca Menzies Nathan Moscrop (3lb/1kg) Struck at the third time of asking in points when last seen in March 2019. Tongue tied for Rules debut. Yard among the winners.

BETTING FORECAST:5-2 Restandbethankful, 11-4 Big Jim Dwyer, 13-2 Getalead, 8-1 Rock Rebel, 14-1 Otello Moor, 14-1 Grey Frontieres, 18-1 West End Woody, 28-1 Jinkaman

TIMEFORM VIEW:Olly Murphy has an excellent record in bumpers so RESTANDBETHANKFUL gets the nod to make a successful debut as form pick Big Jim Dwyer doesn’t set the bar that high. Rock Rebel has quite an interesting pedigree for a race like this and would also enter the reckoning if the betting suggests he’s fancied.
