The other 40% is your exam (final piece) which will take place over 10 hours in your art room. You will have a choice of questions that you can look at and you need to pick one.

For the next 6 weeks you will be preparing for this in your Art lessons. You will be expected to use Art Club – dinner time/after school to get this completed.

You need to use lots of different materials and ways of making art and try to improve how your work looks as you continue to produce it.

Practise with a range of pencils, pens, chalk, paint, wire, clay, card and any other material throughout the course.

Show lots of trying out and attempts in your books, never remove pages and keep all your work.

A Guide to your journeyYear 11 Art Exam

 Weeks 1 and 214th Jan 2013 – 27th Jan 2013Mind Map and research sheets (AO1)Collect keywords inspired by your chosen question and explore as many themes as possible. What are your ideas? Record them in a Mind Map.  Create 3 research pages for 3 different Artists linked to your chosen theme. Re-read the exam question for Artist ideas. Record facts, thoughts and opinions on their work. Use the “How to Create a Fabulous Research page” guide to help you. A / A* level work – complete creative and original research pages on another 2 Artists relevant to your chosen theme. Add detailed drawings in the style of the Artist, take your own photographs of Primary research linked to your theme. Write in detail how the Artist creates their work, what they are inspired by, what your opinions of the work are and how you could use these techniques in your work.Homework – Complete all research

Experimenting with media and developing ideas (AO2, AO3)

Explore your initial ideas, techniques and styles of Art, experimenting with a variety of media.

Create 2 different development pieces of work inspired by the Artists you have looked at.

Try out the techniques, styles and materials that they use.Annotate your work –explain the different techniques and

materials you have used. ANAYLYSE the work of the Artists you have studied and explain how you have used their work to inspire you. Consider content, context, mood, composition,

media and techniques used. A / A* level work – Ensure you have skilfully used at

least 6 different types of materials and media (e.g. paint, pencil, watercolour, oil pastel, college). You could try some 3D sculpture, include textiles or use your own

photography in your Art work. Consider surface pattern, texture and layering. Annotate your

work in detail, including your own opinions of your work and your thoughts on how your project will progress.

Homework – Ensure your journal is up to date, explaining the

materials, techniques and processes that you have used and how your project is progressing.

Week 5 and 611th Feb 2013 – 24th Feb 2013

Developing ideas for your final piece and evaluating what you have done so far (AO3, AO4)

Develop your ideas further. Explore possible techniques and materials you could use – 2D, 3D, mixed media, print. Plan the

materials, techniques and composition. Make a clear plan/diagram of 2 or more design ideas before your 10 hour Exam.

Annotate your DESIGN IDEA – how does it link to your artist?*by this stage you should have at least 5 sheets complete*

 A / A* level work – Complete 4 or more creative and original

design ideas for your Final Piece, testing media, compositions and techniques. Annotate your work in detail, explaining the links to the Artists and Exam question you chose to develop.

 Homework – Complete at least 2 Final Piece Design Ideas and

annotate the materials, techniques, composition and inspiration behind them.

Prepare everything you need for the 10 hour Exam.
