Monarflex EavesGuard

BRE Defect Action Sheet 9 recommends the use of a more durable material for these exposed areas. EavesGuard is a highly UV resistant polymeric eaves protection system designed to meet these requirements which will give maintenance-free service for many years.

EavesGuard is tough and durable but can be trimmed easily with a sharp craft knife: it is designed to span across three rafters at 600 mm centres and may be installed either before or after the gutter is fixed.

Underlays dressed into the gutter require a supporting fillet to prevent ponding behind the fascia board. EavesGuard is a rigid component which requires no fillet, so saving on installation costs.

Product DataEavesGuard is available in two types:• EG300 for typical roof pitches and designs• EG400 for low roof pitches and non-typical eaves designs.

Installation

Working from the left, position the EavesGuard with the grooves uppermost over the first three rafters.Bend the top section to the roof angle and fix with clout nails to the first two rafters (and top of fascia if necessary).

Locate the next length allowing an overlap of 100 mm and fix to rafter using clout nails. Ensure the lap is sealed with a strip of bead sealant (supplied) placed between the lengths.

Install the underlay and fix the tilingbattens. Bend the EavesGuard alongthe outer groove and dressinto the gutter system.

Pitched roof underlays are normally dressed into the eaves gutter, leaving a strip of material exposed. Some underlays, including spun bonded breather membranes and more traditional bituminous felts can deteriorate and even disintegrate after relatively short exposure to water and sunlight.
