SPRING NEWSLETTER 2017 Back by Popular Demand! Library Celebrates 80 Years In 2017, The Messenger Public Library will be celebrating 80 years of service to the community of North Aurora. The Library Board and Staff are in the process of planning a special event for Sunday, August 6 th , at the Library during the annual North Aurora Days celebration. The special event will include a birthday celebration and a ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of a three year long renovation project of the Library facility. Check our website and Facebook for further information on our 80 th birthday and more special events throughout the year. During National Library Week, April 9 - 15, the Library will waive $1. 00 in fines for each item of non -perishable food donated, up to a maximum of $10. 00 per library card. Staff cannot accept expired, damaged, or open food items. Fines owed for lost or damaged materials will not be waived. Saturday, May 6 • 12 : 00 - 4 : 00 p.m. All ages. Celebrate Free Comic Book Day and everything else nerdy. There will be games, crafts, and a photo booth that celebrates all fandoms. Come dressed up and be entered to win a prize. Library Board of Trustee Election April 4th

Remember to vote on Election Day Tuesday, April 4th, for Library Trustees during the Consolidated Municipal Elections for Kane County and the Village of North Aurora. The following North Aurora residents arerunning for four seats on the Library Board.

Candidates include incumbents: Marguerite “Mollie” Treest, James Hicks, and Mary Beth Hutches.North Aurora resident Mary Steed is also running.

Library Renovation of West Wing To Be Completed This SpringThe Library’s west wing renovation project is on schedule to be completed this coming spring. Phase 1 of the two phase project was completed in mid December. Phase 2 renovation began at the start of January and is slated to be completed by the end of March. Phase 2 work includes renovation of the library patron technology access area, the creation of a new coffee bar and new book and library materials browsing area, a new centralized combined service desk, and a new library staff office and work spaces. The Library Board signed contracts at the end of the summer of 2016 with Kluber Architects and Engineers and with L.J. Morse Construction Co. as general contractors.
