Polished Pebbles Girl’s Mentoring Program and the Women’s Board of the Chicago Urban League

invites you to join us for our first annual Mommy & Me Career Conference on Saturday, March 10,

2018 at New Sullivan Elementary School from 8:00am-4:00pm.

The purpose of this conference is to empower, educate, enlighten, and inspire girls and their mothers

to take charge of their lives and explore new and endless possibilities. We seek to ensure the

employability of girls and young women in the future workplace by not only providing her, and her

mother, with the exposure and initial skills to succeed in the workplace & business.

The conference will include a variety of workshops and panels with topics including:

Networking 101

Dressing for Career Success Fashion Show & Boutique

Beauty & Self-Care to Win A Job & Keep It

Entrepreneurship for Girls & Moms

Taking Advantage of Lucrative Non-Traditional Careers

In recognition of your organization’s commitment to the community, we welcome you to take part in

this conference by sponsoring, volunteering, donating items, or vending. Our target sponsorship

goal from corporations, small businesses, and indviduals is $10,000. By pledging your sponsorship

About Polished Pebbles Girl’s Mentoring Program

The Polished Pebbles Girls Mentoring Program

provides girls (ages 7-17) with the opportunity of

learning the vital life skill of effective communication.

In partnership with local schools, businesses, and over

150 volunteer mentors, we have helped girls exhibit

poise, react responsibly as opposed to retaliating,

demonstrate assertiveness instead of aggressiveness,

identify the difference between class and sass, and

become polished.

Polished Pebbles equips girls with skills that allow

them to develop the confidence and ability to:

• Speak up in class

• Join groups and seek leadership positions

• Communicate effectively and respectfully with adults

• Have peaceful interactions with their peers

• Prepare for future careers

We have a combination of school-based and community-based programming open to the public.

About the Women’s Board of the Chicago Urban League

The Women’s Board of the Chicago Urban League is a dynamic

group of women who raise funds for the Whitney M. Young, Jr.

Scholarship Fund. Women’s Board members play an active role

in advancing the growth of the Chicago Urban League through

direct service and fundraising. Beyond our fundraising efforts,

many of us volunteer our time in other ways for the Chicago

Urban League. We form enduring friendships with women, who

share our passion and commitment to education and service.

Payment & Conditions

Polished Pebbles and The Chicago Urban League are both 501 c (3) organization. All donations are a

charitable donation and tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law. Checks, money orders, and

credit card payments are accepted.

Sponsors’ Responsibilities

It is the responsibility of sponsors to provide the materials listed in the package, once the

commitment has been made. The companies which get the most out of their sponsorship are those

who actively promote their presence through attendance and provide any required materials in a

timely manner.

AFTER-SCHOOL MENTORING PROGRAM

Polished Pebbles has served 30 sites across Chicago, IL with our after-school mentoring program for

girls through partnerships with Chicago Public Schools, Chicago Housing Authority, University of

Chicago Charter Schools, and Citizens Schools.

Our Pillars

The Three C’s of the Polished Pebbles Girls Mentoring Program

are Communication, Career Exploration, and Community, all of

which are applicable to the Illinois State Learning Standards for

Social/Emotional Learning (SEL), and the 21st Century Skill

Assessment Building Blocks.

COMMUNICATION - Our focus is mentoring girls to become

strong, effective communicators in all aspects, including

interpersonal communication and communicating respectfully

with adults and peers.

Communication, Social Awareness, Problem Solving,

Collaboration, Planning for Success

CAREER EXPLORATION - Girls apply newly learned

communication skills in a real work environment through

on-site job shadowing and workforce development

opportunities that link technical, social, and emotional

learning skills to college and career opportunities. Polished

Pebbles girls learn about different career paths, the daily

tasks involved, and the requirements (educational, work,

life) to obtain these positions through career exploration

experiences from our supporting partners.

COMMUNITY - A primary goal of our program is to create a space and place for members of the

schools’ communities and the city’s corporate residents to impact youth and bring about change in

their local communities. This also includes deliberate efforts to create parental engagement events to

inform parents about program activities and get them involved with the learning objectives to some

Polished Pebbles Girls Mentoring Programs delivers its programs on-site to public schools, charters

school, private schools at the elementary, middle, and high school grade levels. If you are interested

SECOND SATURDAYS MENTORING PROGRAM

For the last 5 years, our Second

Saturdays mentoring program has

provided African-American girls in

Chicago with caring mentors from a

diverse variety of professionals who

are committed to teaching girls

critical life and communication skills.

Held the second Saturday of each

month from 10am - 12 noon, our

Second Saturdays mentoring

program is free and open to the

public for girls ages 7 - 17 years old

to attend.

Girls are exposed to a variety of

things via hands-on activities

focused on the arts, etiquette,

communication, health and wellness,

career exploration, and much more --

all in a safe and welcoming

environment with women who are

interested in the girls futures.
