Effective Public Speaking Are you frightened to stand before an audience and make a presentation? Then this course is for you! Individuals who attend this class will be provided the opportunity to learn a unique system on how to make effective presentations to groups both large and small. In addition, the art of “impromptu” speaking will be reviewed and participants will have the opportunity to learn how to deal with those situations where you are “called on” to speak in public. *NEW* Retiree Income Taxation WorkshopSouthwest Georgia Technical College is offering an income tax workshop designed to teach retired taxpayers the basic tax laws affecting them and how to prepare their personal income tax returns. Topics will include who must file, which forms to use, filing status, retirement income, investment income, exemptions, deductions, withholdings, estimated tax payments, and computing taxes owed or refunds. Introduction to FirearmsThe course will be conducted by National Rifle Association (NRA) certified instructors, and is based on the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting course. It includes classroom and range time where students learn to handle and use revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students will learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling, pistol parts and operation, ammunition, shooting fundamentals, range rules, shooting positions, and gun cleaning. Price includes NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, and Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet. Two sessions - August 5, 7, & 10 (half-day), September 23, 25, & 27 (morning range session), October 28, 30, & November 1 (morning range session). Cost is $70.

Hunter Education Required for Hunting in Georgia (SWGTC of Mitchell County)Residents and non-residents born on or after January 1, 1961 must successfully complete an approved hunter education course prior to purchasing a season hunting license. This Hunter education course will be taught by a certified instructor and students will learn how to be safe, responsible hunters. In addition, this course is approved by the Wildlife Resources Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and meets Georgia hunter education requirements. Two sessions - August 9 (9:00 am - 5:00pm), September 17 & 18 (6:00 pm - 10:00 pm), October 21 6:00 pm Review and Test Session).

Certified Professional Food Manager (CPFM)This course is intended for those that have an interest in the hospitality and tourism industry and have goals of being more than an average food service employee. Those wanting to enter management, start their own business in restaurants, bed and breakfasts, food truck’s, convenient stores or become a chef this course is for you. The course is $125.00 and includes four (4) hours of training and a two (2) hour certification examination that is valid nationwide, including the United States Territories, for five (5) years. Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP)This course is intended for those that want to enter the field of retail food such as Publix, Red Lobster, Walmart, or any large store that manufactures and packages their own food for sale to the public in grocery stores or in a restaurant setting. The best candidates for this course are those that have a strong food safety background and have already achieved the Certified Professional Food Manager Certification and are ready to become Quality Control Managers or leaders in the regulatory industry such as Departments of Health and Local Health Departments. The course is $255 and is eight (8) hours of training and a two (2) hour certification examination that is valid nationwide, including the United States Territories, for five (5) years.
