REMEMBRANCE DAY Remembrance Day is an opportunity to observe one minute's silence at 11 am on the 11

th of November each year to remember

those who died or suffered for Australia's cause in all wars and armed conflicts. Primary and Secondary students gathered in the Gymnasium last week, where the Captains of the Primary and Secondary presented to all students a history of Remembrance Day which was coordinated by Mr Tony Keen. Students also donated a gold coin to assist the Pozieres French- Australian Schools Project. Our students donated $305 towards Pozieres School and Molong Central School will be engraved on a plaque erected at the school. Our thoughts are once again with the people of France this week.

Year 10 Villages of the Heart Program Visiting Author Paul Stafford met with Year 10 students this week to commence filming a series of interviews with local people about local history. When I visited the Year 10 group Paul Stafford was generating interesting discussion and identifying the types of questions that would be relevant in determining the early beginnings of Gamboola. Students will work in teams and visit local sites to create a filmed history of the local area.

MCS students Excelling in Chosen Fields From time to time I find out about individual student success in their chosen academic and recreational pursuits. These students are usually quiet achievers who dedicate personal time to improve their skills to achieve their goals. Leonie Wilson presented a story in front of 50 other readers at the ABC studio last week and spoke with confidence and clarity. Tyson Wyburn has recently been selected in both the NSW Country under 15 Soccer and Footsal teams. These achievements are the result of many years of hard work and hours of training. It is these experiences that allow students to develop into resilient young people who aren’t afraid to push their abilities to the limit regardless of the outcome. I look forward to finding out more about the individual success that our students achieve on a regular basis so if you know of one of our students doing great things please give me a call.

BYOD PROGRAM

Due to the success of the implementation of BYOD in Years 9 and 10, we are pleased to extend the invitation to Years 7 and 8 in 2016. It allows staff and student to maximise teaching and learning in the classroom in preparation for the rapidly changing world, largely driven by technology. An information session is to be held in the Molong Central School Hall with Mr Scott Taprell and myself on the 25th November commencing at 6:00pm. This will allow parents/carers to be informed about the school’s policy, needs and requirements of devices and receive specific paperwork for each student contract. Miss Georgie Stamatopoulos

CALTEX ALL ROUNDER AWARD

INFORMATION What do children’s show actor Emma Watkins (the current ‘Yellow Wiggle’), Frisbee world-champion sportsman Adrian Gepp (PhD) and many thousands of other Australian professionals have in common? They were all selected by their high schools as Caltex Best All Rounder recipients – and like the vast majority of students so honoured, they’ve gone on to enjoy great success and have been a credit to their schools, families and communities. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Australia’s most respected Secondary education recognition program and by now we suspect many schools have already chosen their 2015 recipients. The Caltex All-rounder Award has been presented to thousands of final year students around the country across its 30 year history. Caltex seeks to acknowledge the all-round contribution that each student makes to their schools and communities, their leadership abilities and the good example they set for others.

NSW PREMIER’S SPORTING

CHALLENGE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM NSW Premiers Sporting Challenge Leadership Program 2015 Last Tuesday, I had the pleasure of accompanying 27 students in years 8 and 9 to participate in a sport leadership day at Orange High school as a part of the NSW Premiers Sporting Challenge Sport Leadership Program, ‘Leading with Action’. The purpose of this day was to introduce and cement various sports skills to students in order to achieve the first step towards a qualification in a level 1/community coach award in one or more of the sports that they attended. Students also learned different coaching skills which will help them to plan coaching sessions and the leading of younger students in a variety of sporting programs and activities planned for 2016. Students participated in three 90 minute workshops which were run by NSW Sports Association Coaching and Development Officers in various sports including Rugby Union, Rugby League, Football, Netball, Softball, Touch, Tennis, Cricket and even Sailing! The specialist Development Officers introduce and develop a variety of skills and activities that allows even the most novice sport leaders to be introduced to the coaching aspects of the sport. All students appeared to have an absolute ball and were exhausted from the day which made for a very peaceful and quiet bus ride home! Remembrance Day Last Wednesday all students K-12 commemorated

Remembrance Day with a service in the Gym. Our

service was led by Toby Parry and Phoenix Aguila and

ably assisted by our Primary Captains Mardie Campbell

and Angus Quigley. The service was organised by Mr

Tony Keen. It was wonderful to see the students listen

to the stories about the significance of the war in

France in WW1 and the Australian connection that is

still their today. I would also like to congratulate the

students on the amount of respect they displayed

throughout the service. Always a pleasure to be part of

Molong Central School.

Mud Challenge “On the 8th of November 2015, 20 kids from Molong

travelled to Integra Gym Orange for the Primary

School Mud Challenge. We started with a warm up

dance and we were all given a group. Each group had

about 10 kids, which started the course at different

times. We got very dirty, crawled under a building full of

mud and we went down a slip and slide. We climbed walls

and stepped over tyres. It was very exhausting but we

all had a lot of fun. By the end of our 3 laps we looked

like a big clump of mud!. We got hosed off and we all

went home and jumped in the shower.”

“The Challenge was very dirty and muddy, but lots of

fun. We had to move ourselves through obstacles. We all

warmed up with a fitness dance which had our muscles

stretched and ready to run. We all moved through the

course about 3 times until we came to the finish line. We

all got covered in mud after the mud crawl and this was

the funniest part of the course. After everyone finished

we got hosed off by one of the fitness trainers and then

we received a medallion for completing the course. We

were all exhausted after the Mud Challenge but it was

Learn to Swim A reminder that our Learn to Swim lessons commence

next Monday 23rd November at the Molong pool.

Children attending should come prepared with the

following items each day: swimming costume, towel,

shirt or rash vest, hat, SPF30+ sun protection, warm

clothing (on a cool day), plastic bag for wet gear and a

carry bag. The wearing of a swimming cap and goggles is

optional, however students will be assessed during the

Program for all swimming skills without wearing goggles.

I have just received confirmation that the Premier’s Reading

Challenge Certificates are now ready to be printed. Gold and

Platinum awards will be sent from the PRC team to the school.

When certificates are all compiled students will receive them at

Morning Assembly.

The last issue of Scholastic Book Club has been handed to

students this week and orders are to be delivered to Library staff

no later than 3:30 pm on Thursday, 19th

November. This will

allow plenty of time for the order to be sent and distributed

before the end of term. Many thanks to all the students and their

families that have supported Book Club during 2015.
